We are an RV park with camping sites located right on the north shore of California's largest freshwater lake (Clear Lake). Boasting nearly 800' of shoreline, we have some of the most incredible views of nature's beauty, with a dormant volcano, phenomenal bird life (such as grebes, coots, ducks, pelicans, egrets, geese, swans, osprey, and occasional bald eagles), and episodic mammalian visitors as well (e.g., otters, deer and opossum).

Clear Lake is world-renowned for fishing, and now - since July 2020 - holds the title of THE #1 bass-fishing lake in all of North America FOR THE PAST DECADE!!! Lake County has also been rated #1 (multiple times) by the American Lung Association in terms of being the county with the lowest particulate matter in the entire United States. Thus, we have incredibly clean air ... wait until you see our night skies!

In terms of technology, we provide free WiFi access throughout our park so that our guests can take full advantage of their time with us. Also offered totally free is the use of our canoes, kayaks and paddle boats. Except for our spectacular views, that is probably the perk our guests rave about the most.

Our restrooms (with two spacious hot showers in each) are newly remodeled, and likely to be THE nicest you have ever seen in a campground or RV park.

For campers, we also have a "club room" with games, sofas, a prep sink, a refrigerator, a microwave oven a coffee-maker, etc. Fire pits are plentiful, and we will even (safely) set up one specially for you if necessary. In short, we offer a gorgeous location with full amenities and a great value. We hope you give us a try so that you can do as our website suggests: "EnjoyOurPark."

TENT SITE CATEGORIES:

We are the Aurora RV Park, originally built with a focus on serving guests traveling in their own recreational vehicles. Each site has a municipal water connection, a municipal sewer connection, and electricity (with 15, 30 and 50 amp service). With our location on the north end of California's largest lake (Clear Lake), we have added camping sites (as well as our own travel trailers and converted airport shuttle buses, which we rent out as well).

With a generally very quiet road that divides our park into a "North Campus" and a "South Campus," our camping sites come in categories that are based on that division. Those camping in the North Campus are situated in unused RV sites. As one can imagine, these sites are plenty large enough for a car and a tent, and the campers have direct access to the site's water and electricity, as well as the park's high-speed Internet (which is accessible throughout the park.) These North Campus sites come in two sub-categories: "Non-lakeside" camp sites (such as the site that this listing is about) and a "Lake View" camp site. The latter is a bit more spacious and (as the name implies) has better views of the lake, which is right across that quiet road. Although most people enjoy that site (and often specifically request it), some have preferred other sites since it is next to the road (albeit separated by a wrought iron fence).

At the South Campus is the other main category of tent sites: our "Lakeside" tent sites, such as the one that is the subject of this listing (i.e., "Lakeside Tent Site B"). These are not RV sites. Rather, they are situated in a separate area that is right on the water. We generally have two 8-person tents already set up there, and - because of their location - these sites are our most desirable. In addition to offering extraordinary views of the lake whenever you step out of your tent, this camping area is also adjacent to our activities room (with its prep sink, large refrigerator, microwave oven, etc.), is maybe 30 feet from our small beach area (where the canoes and kayaks are situated and launched), and is on the other side of the building that houses the park's very impressive restrooms. As one can imagine, these sites are the most in demand, so we recommend that you book early if you wish to stay at one of these. [Please note that we can rent the entire lakefront camping area to those (especially in larger parties) who desire that option.]

Please note also that the lake, laundry, rest rooms, canoe & kayaks, fish tank, etc., are all at the South Campus, and will take generally 40-60 seconds to reach from the North Campus sites. Fire pits and barbecues are on both sides of the road.

It was my first time camping and booking with Michael. The experience was wonderful, a mixture of tranquility and friendly interactions with other guests and Michael himself. Most guests were friendly to chat and learn about one another, which I enjoyed a lot. At the same time, my friends and I had enough privacy to just do our own things. The smaller tent of the two was more than spacious for the three of us and my favorite enjoyment was kayaking during sunrise and sunset. Would recommend!

Thanks Michael! Had a fantastic time staying here. Clearwater may not be swimmable, but the views are fantastic, and Blue Lakes is a short drive away. Clean facilities which was very much appreciated.

Our trip was a last minute, quick over nighter, nowhere near long enough to utilize the whole place. But the hospitality and amenities cannot be beat, especially for the price. Can't wait to go back when we don't have to be in such a rush 😁

Thanks for the kind words, Thurman. It was also too short for us to get to know you better. But it was a pleasure nonetheless, and we look forward to a time when you have more time to enjoy our park. All the best. - Mike

Michael was an amazing host. We reached well past 11pm and occupied one of the 8-person tents that was set up in the designated spot (the other was occupied). The next morning Michael showed up to introduce himself while we had stepped out to do some grocery shopping. He noticed that the tent had a rip near the opening and had a replacement tent ready to set-up before we even got back. As a host, we could ask nothing more of Michael and he really made the experience amazing.

The tent site came with free access to some kayaks and canoes that are available first-come-first-serve on the beach next to the site. The equipment room is stocked with life jackets in all sizes.

The tent sites have access to a recreation room (that we didn't avail of due to the pandemic) but it looked well stocked with board games, jigsaw puzzles and books to read, with comfortable looking couches. There's a microwave and a sink available fo ruse as well.

The only downside of the experience (and this is important if you want to go in a large group) is that the site is extremely cramped. Campsites A (A tepee) and B (An 8-person tent) are right next to each other, roughly 10 feet apart. The only thing separating sites A and B is a solitary tree. If you do want to go in a bigger group i strongly recommend booking both sites. Also if privacy is your goal, this is not the campsite for you.

Overall, the experience was good. The pre-set-up tents, kayaks and canoes, and the amazing host made up for the cramped living and lack of privacy.

The good:
We had a wonderful and truly perfect 2 night weekend stay at the Aurora Rv Park campsite. The facilities were super nice (showers, toilets, laundry, rec room, outdoor bbq, etc), host Deb was so sweet and owner Michael was responsive and available, plus the free use of boats was absolute hit. The campsite included a 4-5 person tent already set up, fire pit, and picnic table. Best of all was the view of the lake and mountains right in front of the site...truly beyond compare and something I was not expecting for that area!
We lucked out on neighbors who shared the 'cozy' space with us (all vaccinated fortunately), after a year of much isolation It was so nice to get randomly placed next to some genuinely kind and caring people. (Shout out to Julian and his father Jean if they ever get to read this! :) )

The not-so-good:
The listing is not entirely accurate to what you think you are paying for - the campsite is very small and closely shared with another site. It's really what I would consider a standard single campsite for 6-8 people that has been split into two and rented separately. We were surprised to arrive and find that we'd be sharing the space with another family (3 adults and 3 children) who had to walk through our site to enter and leave theirs. We had 3 adults and I would not recommend more than that unless you rent site A as well sheerly for the space and privacy factor.
One other aspect that I should have prepared for (researched) is the type of insects to expect - the area has a ton of mayflies who appear to die very easily and quickly, so I would anticipate there may be a mass grave in your tent upon arrival. Fortunately there was a broom available to clean up a bit and they are totally harmless - dont bite/sting or do anything other than fly stupidly around lights or into fire. i mean that part is just camping !

In summary:
I would return in a heartbeat with better expectations for the set up, and likely only if I had a larger overall group so renting both sites made sense. I do not recommend for non-vaccinated travelers looking for a very private space!

Michael is an incredibly welcoming guy and is super knowledgeable about Clear Lake -- shoot him a message asking about the ecosystem about the lake! This Lakeside option is nice and is slightly closer to the kayaks and canoes but you are sharing the campsite with another party and it's not as big as the Lakeview option. Otherwise, if you don't mind, book with Michael and have a blast kayaking your spirits away.

It’s a beautiful facility right on the lake and very clean amenities. Unfortunately the air was really bad from local fires when I stayed so I didn’t get to enjoy the complimentary canoes and kayaks but would love to return so that I can.
