We were looking for a last-minute place with very little light noise to watch the Persieid meteor shower. This place was excellent for that. The Milky Way was bright and we could see dozens of constellations before the main show started. When the meteors started streaking it was amazing; I have only seen such pronounced trails and fireballs in the high Sierras, and this is just a couple of hours from home. There are some things that could have been better and it sounds like Philomina intends to make improvements. Until then, if I were planning in advance, I would come back with a group that would split the cost, but not as a small family or just with my husband - there are other places with better resources for the price.

Philomina is easy to communicate with. She responds quickly and with good information.
Lovely, peaceful area. The critters went about their business with no fear. The air smells clean and the property is tidy.
Fog- and light-free skies
Beautiful drive
Fairly close to some great Paso Robles wineries (Justin, Halter Ranch).
Easy to get to from the freeway and easy to find.
We had phone reception, which was a nice surprise so we could use our stargazing app. I don't think that is the case with all carriers - we have Sprint and Verizon.

No toilet and ground is too hard to dig a hole. If we stayed for more than one night we'd have to hold it until we could drive to a toilet. It's also difficult to find a spot that isn't visible from the road or the campsite; there aren't any bushes to hide behind.
No potable water. This isn't so bad, but for the price, it would be nice to have.
No shade. There are a couple of oak trees in the camping area we used, but they are closer to the road than we wanted to be.
Proximity to the road; it is clearly visible from the camping area. You can hear the cars coming from quite a ways away and see the headlights at night. The sound didn't interrupt our sleep, just the illusion of being a world away and our night vision.
No real camping pad. We put our sleeping bags on the dirt road in front of our truck - the flattest spot.

We loved our stay at Dora-Rozi Retreat! We decided to set up camp on a bluff overlooking most of the property and the road. When we visited, Philomena had an outdoor shower set up along with a large concrete landing where you could set up your camp table and chairs to hang out at the top of the ridge.

Phil gave us a tour of the property and let us know that she's working on adding a toilet and picnic table soon as well!

The property is full of beautiful rolling hills, open fields, and mossy trees. We checked out Lake San Antonio, which is less than 15 minutes up the road. Day passes are good 'til 9pm, so it's a great place to hang out before retiring to camp for dinner and the evening.

We'll definitely be back!

Dora-Rozi, named after the host's parents is expansive (150+ acres) with fields, rolling hills, ridges, and trails with plenty of places to set up camp and trails to explore. We opted to set up on the ridge overlooking the property and road under an oak tree.

Lake Nacimiento & Lake San Antonio are about a 15 minute drive from the property and fun place to spend the day before retreating to the privacy of your own camp to relax, cook up dinner, and star gaze! (Bring your own stove, no fires allowed on the property.)

Philomena had said she's is in the process of getting a toilet and picnic table set up soon as we toured the property with her.

Looking forward to visiting again and seeing the property come together!

Pro tip — In the summer months, be sure to bring a shade structure (We had the awning on our car which was great!)

My wife and I booked the Dora Rozi which is situated in the heart of the Nacimiento area of the west coast. We weren't expecting too much as we were a bit on a budget, and the posted weekend price for this overnight stay was, how else can I put it, very very affordable. Having the lowest of expectations, turns out this is the BEST Hipcamp site, or campground for that matter that my wife has ever been to, especially as avid stargazers.

Firstly, despite the site being situated just a football punts from the highway, there is very little traffic that runs through this property - so noise is not an issue.

Secondly, the owner, Philomina, is an absolutely wonderful lady, whom is actually in the process of turning her property into her retirement home in the near future. Her property has evolved over the years (judging by pictures left behind by travelers before us), and we were definitely blessed and there at the right time to enjoy many years of labor and love put into cultivating a heavenly parcel of land. Despite arriving late for our check-in, Philomina waited patiently for us, and provided us with a tour of her site and the many amenities that come with it. Please note, the listing says there is no toilet or showers, but there is yes to both, and there is hot water and a flushable toilet. This was a welcome surprise!

There are many possibilities to pitch tent, but we chose to pitch where Philomina recommended, which was near the second rung on the hill, which allowed us to bathe in the whole sky, while still being sheltered from strong winds by the gentle hills surrounding us. The site is very clean.

Our words don't really do this review justice, so I'll end the review here (but will revisit it after our long trip is over), but check out the pictures and you'll quickly see what I mean!

Much thanks and love to Philomina. Cheers.

Thank you Ernest. I was in Vancouver last week and thought of you but it was too short a visit. Next time I shall travel some distance from Vancouver.

The Retreat was perfect for us and our teardrop trailer. Our host Philomina, tho not present due to shelter in place, was in constant communication with me to ensure we found the location, and found everything to our liking. The hot shower, flushing toilet, fully equipped gas grill, kitchen sink, eating area, and gas patio heater worked great, and were clean. The location is quiet and beautiful. We also loved the fire pit with provided fire wood.

Tree stump in the valley below the bluff. View of our camp on the bluff from above. Loved the campfire with provided fire wood. Our last morning, ready to head home in the rain!

This is a pretty unique spot. It's in an area of the Los Padres National Forest that I love. Sitting up on the swinging chair, looking out, it felt like I was an ant in a giant world. The proportions just challenge my brain. I now understand the comments about this being a work in progress. But this place is a work in progress in a good way. There are a number of interesting projects happening that made me envious of the fun these two are probably having crafting the area. I am a pretty sound sensitive person. But while the traffic lasted, it did not bother me – and normally traffic probably would. Most of the time, there was a silence I rarely get to "hear". And I haven't even mentioned the fact that Philomena provided a coffee cake to die for! I definitely hope to come back and see how it's evolving.

Thank you Ron. Its guests like you that pursuade me to keep on trying to make improvements. Even though the extreme weather has not been very friendly to our plants. I am determined to grow some shade trees around for the birds and people. I like your sense of humor.too. I do hope you can make it back again. Blessings

Beautiful homestead, and wonderful experience having a whole campground to ourselves. Everything was well maintained, and Philomena is an incredibly responsive host and gifted us an entire coffee cake to enjoy during our stay.
