Dennis - the super host
Dennis truly went above and beyond as a host. Not only did he take the time to give us a tour of his property, but he even showed us the Locke Historic District where we got to meet some locals! Throughout our entire stay he was so accommodating and made sure my guest and I had everything we needed. Overall, my experience was very positive and would highly recommend this spot to any travelers!
Camping on the delta
"Camping under heritage oaks" was a great opportunity to be out in nature. We got to pick a spot on a 3-acre lot and we had it pretty much to ourselves. It adjoins the historical district of Locke but you wouldn't know it. Behind the property is a slough, with a bike path and launch for kayaking. The property is slowly getting developed into a conventional campground.
A humble, unique stay by the water
This is a standard front yard property with higher than standard activities offered. There was nothing super special about the site itself, but Dennis is new to this property and he has big plans for renovations and additions. The surrounding area, however, has lots of fun options. This Hipcamp is about an hour outside of San Francisco and is set right across from the river and a short-walk from a big pond. This pond offers fishing, kayaking, SUP, and nearby waterfront bars and restaurants. The trail to the pond was easy and pretty. Dennis was very personable and accommodating, but allowed for much privacy. Overall, our stay was so pleasant. He gave us a tour of the nearby historic sites and even know it feels like you’re in the middle of nowhere, he made us feel very safe and like we had a lot of activities to do.
A cozy, brief stop in the delta
This is a basic, no-frills front yard camping spot. The aesthetic is something between a constant yard sale and quirky junk yard. Large oaks surround the property and provide a little bit of scattered shade. There are a couple of short walking trails along levees nearby (nothing spectacular) and the historic Chinese town of Locke is a lovely hidden gem. The property can be a little noisy, with regular traffic on the adjacent thoroughfare, the owner's dogs, or his house speakers playing music, bit it quiets down late in the evening and it felt relatively safe for the night. We were the only ones there, but if there were more than one or two other campers/RVs here, I wouldn't call it private. I would stay here for the night, but not for multiple evenings.
Do not stay here.
This campsite was the biggest scam. Drove 2 hours to get there and the host never answered the phone. Not to mention—it was in a neighborhood off the side of a sketchy road. Late at night we had to find a place to sleep last minute. A definite rip off. Would not sleep here.
Dennis was real friendly and nice & gave us a tour of the property. The River was right behind property line with some nice trails and good fishing spots. Only issue was a couple of aggressive dogs off leash on the property, unfortunately we didn’t feel safe taking our dog out of the car. Also, Dog Barking kept me up on & off throughout the night, Probably wouldn’t stay again because of this.
Quirky, quaint spot with character
Don’t listen to the negative reviews on here. Dennis’s spot is a diamond in the rough. His spot is tucked away right off the river. We road our bikes along the bike path behind his property and down to Isletown. Really cool, quaint town. Dennis is a really nice, hospitable guy. Fast communication and real easy going. We picked a spot to the right of the driveway right when you pull in which made for a really beautiful and serene set up. Quiet nights under a sea of stars. Would stay here again :)
Nice spot, under large trees, adjacent to Locke. Good home base for exploring the Delta. Dennis is a friendly host. We shared the space with another friendly traveling couple.
