We are located on a working alpaca farm with well over 200 trees! Your 4-acre campsite backs up to the Cleveland National Forest and affords amazing seclusion and quiet. At night, the stars abound and you'll fall asleep to the sounds of crickets, frogs and owls. We are nestled in a valley of oaks, pines, and cottonwoods with bountiful shade and several rock formations. There's a small meadow area adjacent to your site where you can have an epic evening ballgame with the kids or have a picnic. There is abundant space to stretch out! Hammocks are scattered around the property as well as 2 large shaded outdoor "living rooms". Our farm friends include chickens, roosters, bees, goats, a herd of alpaca, and a livestock guardian dog that watches over them all faithfully in their large fenced in area. We are happy to introduce you to them and can set up a time with you that works. The alpacas especially love to be fed treats!

Description of Camp Site:
Get out of the city for some serious relaxing! Unobstructed back-country serenity. We pride ourselves on providing our guests with peaceful respite from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Lounge peacefully on your private deck at sunset to gaze out over the meadow and garden while you enjoy wildlife and the sounds of nature.
Our goal for your GLAMPING experience is to provide everything you need so you can enjoy camping in comfort - without the hassle. Just pack your clothes, towels, food, drinks & ice chest and we'll have the rest here waiting for you!
We ONLY HOST ONE GROUP AT A TIME so the whole 4-acre area is yours for the duration of your stay!!
Our meticulously clean campsite comes with a huge canvas bell tent, deck, rustic outdoor kitchen and a covered dining table. There is also an outdoor "bathhouse" with an on-demand hot water shower, compost toilet, sink, and private changing area.
-----
The Tent:
This 16.5 foot bell tent overlooks the alpacas, the meadow area and garden. The tent is configured to comfortably sleep 4 adults - which we happily accommodate bedding for. If you have more than 4 people in your party, pls let us know as the maximum for the tent is likely 4 adults + 2 kiddos (or combination thereof). Sleeping arrangements: one queen size bed (the real deal - not an air mattress) and 2 extra-large twin cots (adult size) covered with mattress toppers and bedding.
- Two 100-watt solar panels provide power for tent lights and re-charging of your devices.
- Two small personal-sized evaporative cooler/fans keep you cool during your afternoon nap or on warm summer nights.
-----
Kitchen area:
For your outdoor cooking convenience, leave your camping stove/portable grill at home - we provide both (propane fuel included).
Included are a 5-gallon bottle of water with dispenser, a small propane grill, a separate 17" propane griddle cook top, kettle to make tea, coffee, or hot cocoa (all provided). Please see the photos to know what kitchen items will be available for your stay with us.
-----
Outdoor "bathhouse":
On demand hot water shower, rustic sink, and outhouse with composting toilet.
We provide hand soap, body wash, shampoo, conditioner, hand sanitizer, and toilet paper. If you bring your own toiletries, pls ensure they are environmentally-friendly to keep our organic gardens and fruit trees happy. We also provide toilet paper and one roll of paper towels. If you forget something just let us know! If we don't have what you need, there is a small general store located 3 miles away.
-----
Communication & WiFi:
We encourage our guests to unplug and enjoy nature. Come prepared to glamp/camp! We DO NOT recommend trying to work from this camp site if you need internet or phone. We have a table and chair set up in the shade near our residence (100 yds away from tent site) if you need to make a phone call or check your email.
Note: AT&T subscribers will likely have good cellular service, other providers - not so much. For extended access to internet, public WiFi is available at the Descanso library, a 5-minute drive from the property.
-----
Location:
Specific driving directions will be provided before your stay. PLEASE WRITE DOWN THE DIRECTIONS BEFORE LEAVING YOUR HOUSE. Do NOT USE the directions/map provided by Hip Camp. Use the directions we provide upon confirmation.
***********WE CAN NOT EMPHASIZE THIS ENOUGH!!!!!!!!***********
You will lose cellular & GPS service 2 to 5 miles from our location (if not AT&T). Have your route to the campsite mapped out before you leave your home.
We are in a RUSTIC LOCATION, down a country dirt road and it is VERY EASY TO GET LOST. Please arrive before sunset. *Check-ins after sunset with prior coordination and agreement by both parties. If you're running late and can't arrive before dark pls let us know.
-----
Activities:
Descanso means "Place of Rest". Our wish for you is that your soul replenishes while you meander through our Cuyamaca Mountain community and arrive at your camp site.
If you aren't one to sit around for very long- you can hike the nearby trailheads. The "California Riding and Hiking Trail" can be accessed from the road at the back of the property. After a steep climb up the first hill, the rest is smooth sailing (great to get your heart pumping)!
Our property backs up to Cleveland National Forest and Cuyamaca Rancho State Park where premier riding and hiking abound! Bring your mountain bike to access nearby trails as well. The property is mostly flat and a great place for the kids to ride their bikes. If you enjoy light or serious hiking, there are MANY choices nearby. We would be happy to give you information on the best hikes or check out the "Afoot and Afield in San Diego book" that we have provided in the tent. We will also provide a list of recommended restaurants in the area.
-----

Wow! An absolute majestic get-a-way destination and just a short drive out of the city (San Diego)!
What stood out?
1) The alpaca farm backdrop sets the mood of calm and peace.
- The whole point to "get away", release the work week stress, and this Glamping experience exceeded expectations!
2) The sleeping quarters, especially the bed itself, was more comfortable than past Marriot Hotel rooms I have stayed (sorry Marriot, I still love ya).
- There is nothing that I want more than a "Good Night Sleep" and this bed was remarkable, comfortable, and allowed me to sleep like a baby.
3) Keri and Scott are incredibly hospitable and accommodating hosts!
- From the moment, my wife and I arrived, Mr. Scott greeted us, gave a campsite "familiarization" tour. It looks straight out of a story book!
- Being that that this site is a working alpaca farm, there are also some egg-producing chickens nearby. Mr. Scott and Ms. Keri just may offer you some FRESH free-roaming chicken eggs; they sure were tasty!
4) The Glamping Site has a lot to offer!
- No matter if San Diego is hot, cold, or in between, Scott and Keri thought these scenarios through to the smallest detail. Both heater and swamp cooler are at the ready; user friendly!
- The outdoor shower was hotter than my home shower! Loved it!
I strongly recommend you book this Glamping site; You'll love it too!
