The setting, the bunkhouse, the BBQ, the smoker, the fire pit - it was just what we were looking for. Jim is a great host and his property is beautiful. This is my second time here, and I plan on coming back. Thanks, Jim.
We LOVED the Speakeasy Lodge. It's a place that feels like home, that we try to come back to year after year. Jim is the BEST host and he really takes care of his property. We'll be back next year and can't recommend enough!
I can't recommend this place enough. Jim was such a welcoming host (and his dogs are super friendly), the landscape was beautiful, the amenities were all we needed, and the campsites were well maintained. Can't wait to come back here.
Jim was a welcoming host, and his property was beautiful! The lodge was perched on a hill with 365 views of the Carrizo Plains area. We went with a group of 14 families with small children. There was plenty of space to spread out and let the kids run. The outdoor kitchen was perfect and made our group meals the centerpiece of our stay. There was a giant grill, a big propane stove with propane and plenty of counter space. He also had an arsenal of trash cans and trash was picked up daily. We brought our own pots, pans and utensils, but some were also available in the lodge. This is technically tent camping, but the addition of the rustic lodge took our experience up a notch. It was nice to be able to get out of the elements and have our dinners indoors next to the wood stove. We ended each day around the outdoor fire pit. Oh, and a huge bonus that firewood was provided! We had such a wonderful weekend that we are considering an annual trip.
We enjoyed our stay at the Speakeasy lodge. The nature and the area, in general, are wonderful. Having a kitchen is a game-changer for a group like ours of 9 adults and 8 kids. Many of us stayed in the lodge but a couple of people pitched a tent. The lodge was warm enough for us during the night due to the wood-burning stove. The kids loved exploring the area on their own - we brought walkie-talkies which were a hit.
The host Jim was friendly and accessible to us for our needs!
Jim's got such a great piece of land that I can't seem to stay away from. The Speakeasy lodge was the perfect place for my party of 20 plus pets who all came to celebrate my 30th birthday. We even got to meet his granddaughter, Ruby, who was a real treat to hang out with:). This was my third time to Songdog Ranch and it definitely won't be my last. I love this place and I am so glad Jim shares his space with the public who is looking for the perfect place to camp.

We loved our stay at the Speakeasy Lodge! It's such a great place for a big group. We found it was a really good place to go with some not so experienced campers who don't have great gear. At night, that area can get pretty cold and the cabin was warm so some of us slept in our tents and some in the cabin. The sleeping pads were really nice to have. We did a bunch of cooking and the only thing that I would bring next time is a sharp knife and some big mixing bowls.
My family’s stay at Speakeasy Lodge was absolutely beautiful. Celebrating my 30th birthday and Thanksgiving amongst family and friends on Jim’s incredible property was all I could ask for. Amazing sunsets and shimmering stars galore. The lodge was clean, well equipped, and kept us warm through the chilly nights! Jim was a wonderful host. Can’t wait to return to Songdog Ranch for our third trip.
