Fantastic site! Excellent hosts! As much as I'd love to keep this site a secret, I will do my best to share :)
Site 4 is where we stayed and it's probably the smallest of the 5 but it's perfect if you're looking for a shaded and cozy spot. It's not as close to the river as the other sites, but about 60 seconds of walking and you're at the river. We have a 3 and 4 year old and I thought the swimming hole right across from our site was perfect. The current was mild so we stayed close to the kiddos at all times but they had a great time! As most have said the portable toilet was very clean and site 4 is pretty close.
A camp fire would have been the cherry on top but nothing you can do about it when there's a fire ban.
We were at the camp site just a few days ago so to give you some context on the conditions, we were in 100+ degree weather which made shade from the trees and cooling off in the river, absolute must-haves. And the only thing we had to worry about was mosquitos but they didn't really come attacking until it cooled off at night. Everyone is different but for me, it wasn't cool enough to sleep until about 1030pm and then it gets pretty chilly overnight so the sleeping bag does become necessary.
Terrific Hipcamp! Site 1 is right next to the river and the sound of the water was so relaxing to fall asleep to. Sites 1 & 2 share portos and a small beach. Best part was a magical moment of watching 4 beautiful cattle cross the river. Unforgettable!
We loved staying in Sawyerâs Bar!
The site was well kept and the nearby river was beautiful!
We saw many animals during our stay, make sure to keep an eye out for them while driving to the sites!
What an absolutely amazing and beautiful spot! We went kayaking, hiking, snorkeling, gold panning and swimming. The water tempreature was absolutely perfect, and there are even some fun little rapids to float down in a floatie.
The part that really set this spot apart from other similiar camp trips was the amazing camp host, Tom. He was so incredibly kind, helpful and just an amazing human being overall. He gave us a gold panning lesson, brought us some honey from the ranch, and told us about the surrounding history. I wanted him to hang out with us the whole trip!
We had a great time at Sawyer's Bar. We took sites 2 and 3 for two families. There is plenty of room for multiple tents (e.g., parents/kids) at each site. Site 2 has the best water access for wading/swimming/floating, but is in full sun, so you need an EZ Up for sure. Site 1 has a nice swimming hole too. Site 3 has a huge oak that you can camp under for shade plus a large open area and is next to a nice fishing hole (the river holds juvenile bass/bluegill). The sites are nicely spread out so there were no issues with noise, dogs, or privacy. Camp Host Tom is great. Taught us to pan for gold and visited daily to make sure things were going well, but wasn't crowding us at all (he even shared some of the ranch's wildflower honey). We're already planning our return.
Sawyerâs Bar #2
What a great spot! Our spot was right on the river. Lots of privacy between sites, beautiful location, and soft tp in clean portapottys!
Tom brought his great smile for a visit every day and even showed us how to pan for gold.
Only warning is that there are zero trees on this site and when the wind picked up we needed to tie stuff down to boulders. So bring rope!

The cleanest camp site we have camped at. Exceptionally clean potties and loved every minute here! We can't wait to come back.

We had a great time on our first camping trip with our 3.5 year old and 10 month old! The sites are big and spread out so we weren't worried when our littlest woke up super early in the morning. The portable bathrooms were clean and easy to get to. We loved taking a dip in the river just steps from our site (#4). Lots of cool little towns and places to stop for food/fresh fruit on our drive from Oakland. Can't wait to go back and stay for longer!
