If you stayed here and have some insider info for us, let us know!
our time at copper moon was an adventure to say the least ! we tried beating the sun to try to reach camp before sunset as per suggestions // along with other reviews i would agree the camp sign is a bit small and harder to find, you should be able to see it once you meet your first fork in the dirt road, the sign is abt 80-100 ft to the left of the road (spotters r helpful)
because we couldnt see much as the sun went down, we accidentally set up in a space we thought was the campsite, but there are actual designated spots with rings and whatnot - and although we shared spaces with people near us, no one was closer than a football field away
i drove with a 2wd 2015 ford fiesta and did ok (super bumpy n slow) on the obviously driven through tracks (i did not dare “off road” the off road) - my car battery died in the desert and jessica, the host was kind enough to send me numbers of local tow companies. thankfully there was a neighbor a mile out who was able to jump my car for me - the camp though is quite deserted so come prepared with all your necessities
the stars are beautiful, sunset and sunrise are amazing with the vast expanse of the land, totally would come back
Mindy was very nice and responsive! The campsite was very remote. We enjoyed the peace and quiet, hiking, and stargazing. The campsite is at the end of a long dirt road; was fine for our little sedan, but had to travel slowly. Also the toilet it a bucket, so bring your own TP! Anyway, we really enjoyed our stay on this property!
Copper Moon was the perfect spot for tent camping with our pups. The site is pretty quiet at night with a good distance from neighboring properties. Unobstructed views of the night sky and mountain ranges were a treat. Will definitely book again. Thanks Mindy!
Copper moon camp goes hard
To all those curious to know a more recent review, I'd just like to add this site was amazing. The second best thing to not being able to stay in the park, and super awesome to immerse yourself with a group of close friends out in Yucca Valley.
We were a group of three, and we stayed two nights, wish we could've stayed three if we had a long weekend. Three nights and two full days would be perfect.
I would recommend bringing a lot of firewood, I brought 4 bundles for two nights and wish I brought three. We cooked some gourmet fire-roasted meals at night, had cold lunches, and stovetop breakfasts.
This location was super secluded and we saw a beautiful night sky, away from the light pollution of the city.
However, we did wish we brought a canopy or a shade covering or umbrella as there are no trees at this site and the sun is intense.
This location was about 25-30 minutes away from the North and West Entrance of Joshua tree and about a 15-minute drive from the paved roads.
We accomplished it in a Nissan Versa Hatchback, front-wheel drive and we were fine, no tire damage, no stalls or disruptions on the dirt road.
Water is essential and you will need some for hydration, washing dishes, and everything in between. We brought 7 gallons of potable and filled our bottles before and we had some to spare between 3 people.
Upon arriving it was a bit difficult to spot the signage for the location as it was about 30 meters to the left of the dirt road we were told to go down on a Silver sign that said camp moon, so an improvement I would make would be to provide an additional sign with arrows of the location near to the dirt road you're driving down.
Other than that, we still had phone reception with Verizon LTE out there at 3 bars and could call and communicate and edit our media as we were taking pictures.
During the day we spent all of our time at Joshua Tree, and came back a little bit before dusk around 5-6pm and still had time to meal prep dinner before the sun went down at 7pm.
Really fun would recommend to a friend, thank you for reading, and thank you Mindy for allowing us to stay at your property to have a good time.
