This camp site located directly across the bridge from the lodge and restrooms up the hill on the bluff overlooking the creek. If one weekend is booked looked to another weekend or you might consider a mid-week - Monday - Thursday visit.
This is a family private owned small campground (16 sites only) located on the outskirts of Placerville. The property features 86.5 secluded Tahoe like acres with beautiful year-round Weber Creek. The camp sites are placed along the creek or the bluff overlooking the creek. We have traditional dirt camping, platforms with canvas tents and glamping tents for those that want the comforts of home. Our hallmark is our family teepee! We are all about tent camping – we do not allow travel trailers, campers or van camping.
We’ve been told that we have a “family camp” vibe.We are a great place for families wanting a safe environment for their kids but also several group sites for those that want to hang out together. We are also a great base site for those wilderness enthusiasts with access to all the El Dorado National Forest including Desolation but want a hot shower at the end of the day.Tahoe is less than an hour away.We are dog friendly and love our pets but absolutely enforce leash laws to protect your pet as well as the other campers.Due to the nature of our mixed audience camp we also enforce our quiet period from 10 pm to 7 AM.
We have a lodge that is stocked with game tables and every game imaginable along with a ping pong table. The lodge has a Keurig machine and a hot water kettle for those hot drinks (BYO Cups). We have several tables set up for those that want to eat inside as well as multiple picnic tables along the side of the lodge with overhead protection. We’ve been told that our bathrooms are the “cleanest” ever and have changing tables and diaper pails. The showers are nice and cleaned daily.
For outdoor activities we have basketball, volley ball and cornhole not to mention the playground with swing sets, seesaw and tractor play.We also have many outdoor games for meadow play including a tug-a-war rope, gunny sacks, baseballs, gloves and a soccer net.We have hiking trails throughout the property. Our highlight is a camp fire bowl with bench seating with a stage to display camper talent which is perfect for the evening fire and roasting s’mores (bring the fixings). The common area has BBQs – both propane and charcoal as well as a cooking griddle (we also added a campfire pit in the campfire bowl area for charcoal dutch oven cooking). We are in the wilderness so we have a cool room to store all food at night – yes bears live in the wilderness but avoid Camp.
The Creek starts out in the spring looking like a rushing river featuring lots of swimming holes and fishing. However, as the summer evolves it is more of a small creek even though we do dam a portion of it (goes up memorial day weekend and down after labor day) for those that want to use floating devices (starts out 6 feet and ends up closer to 3 feet). We do not allow individual campfires but have propane fire pits for ambience – not cooking. They require the purpose of propane on site.
We are located in the foothills so we are a short hop to many local attractions that include river rafting, gold mines, wineries and historic towns with great eating establishments. There’s always something happened in downtown Placerville. To make things nicer for our guests we have the ability to rent a limited number of tents, cots, individual propane fire pits, BBQs, etc. - anything to make it easier for our campers. Come give our location a try – we think you’ll enjoy yourselves.

Great camp ground with a fun creek
This camp ground is pretty cool. We really enjoyed exploring the creek. We wish we would have a had chance to check out the onsite hiking trail. We heard from some of the surrounding campers it was fun and challenging.
As for the number 8 site, it is up on the hill, so it required a little more effort to tote our stuff to the site and then back to the car at the end of the trip (you can't actually park at most of the sites, though they do have about half a dozen carts to help move your stuff back and forth from the parking area to the camp sites. If/when we make it back, we'll definitely try and get one of the sites down along the creek. There were quite a few cool options spread out all over the property.
Regarding the amenities, there a few gas grills spread among the sites here and there, and there is also a group of grills and a huge propane griddle grill all available down near the lodge. They keep the propane full for all of these grills. The bathrooms and showers were clean and the lodge was a neat option to have, though we didn't really use it.
There was plenty of area for the kids to roam, without any fear of the getting lost or straying off too far. There is a small play ground area, a huge field, a volley ball net, and of course, the main attraction is the creek. They do have a little makeshift damn right near the middle of the camp ground that creates a cool wading/splashing area for the kids, even with the water running potentially a little low. There were also quite a few little trout splashing around in there in the evenings. One of the little boys that was fishing actual caught a rainbow trout while we were there. It went straight on the grill!
This was our second Hip Camp booking and we are a solid 2 for 2! I'm actually getting ready to book a 3rd tonight!
Nice family camping spot
Greg was an excellent host. He was friendly, welcoming, and even hooked us up with some worms for our son to use fishing (and he caught a fish!). Strongly recommend this spot for families. Felt safe in covid world, most everyone wearing masks and being thoughtful.
Peaceful and pretty
Camp Nauvoo was a wonderful respite from this Covid life in SF. It is pretty, peaceful, and relaxing the staff were so helpful and the bathrooms were pristine. All campers and staff were respectful of Covid social distancing. South Lake Tahoe is only an hour away so we spent a day there. Taking our gear up the hill in carts was a bit of a hassle but really not bad at all. Campsite 8 is not on the creek but above it and is more private and you can hear the creek. The stars are amazing at night. The butane campfire is easy to use, pretty and does put out some heat.
Love it (site #8)
Greg and Laurie are AWESOME.
The campsite are very well kept, clean and felt safe to let kids run wild.
While all the car have to park at the parking lot, there is alot of carts available for us to load up and get our gears to the site.
It even have a shop onsite, BBQ area, food storage room and did I mention the place is SUPER CLEAN!
Site #8 fits 2 smaller tent (altho we were able to squeeze 2x 6 person tent... there was no room to walk), it is up on a hill (hard to see that from the map).
We had a wonderful time at camp Nauvoo! Greg was incredibly helpful and I could tell that the staff is working very hard to keep people safe during Covid. The site was beautiful as was the creek. There was so much to do and a lot of care was put into the entire camp. Thanks for the great time!
Camp nauvoo is lovely. Beautiful setting to relax and let the kids loose in nature. Our family stayed at tent site 8, and had a blast. It felt private and a nice view as it was elevated. Big thumbs up to Greg who was a responsible, discrete and friendly host. I felt he was doing his utmost to keep guests safe which is no small feat in these times. Bravo !
