We welcome dry campers of all kinds here at Blue Sky Center. Whether you're in a Westy, an RV, or you're a car, motorcycle, bicycle, or tent camper, you and your adventuremobile are welcome here. The per site fee (up to 2 tents/4 people per site) entitles you to access to all of our camper amenities including clean restrooms and shower. You're welcome to relax the Khalili Cantina, socialize and cook over the fire at the main fire pit, or stretch out in one of our hammocks.
Our Dispersed Camping area is set up for you! Sand covers the ground with 3 raised tent platforms made of wood, complete with tie down anchors.
We have firewood for purchase here - $5/bundle (deposit into the wood box or send via PayPal/Venmo to @blueskycenter). There are multiple fire rings, so feel free to share with other guests or build your own. We have picnic benches for eating. A large BBQ grill is available for cooking. Due to the high desert environment, we don't allow ground fires but you're welcome to bring your own fire pit or grill.
We do not currently have hookups for RVs, so your vehicle must be self contained. If you intend to run a generator, we'll set you up in a spot where you'll have plenty of room and won't disturb the rest of camp.

Tip: If you're doing dispersed camping in the heat, opt for a spot under a shady tree instead of on the tent platforms in the parking lot. We originally hoped to get a platform, but saw that they were all taken once we got there, but am so glad we did not use them since the sun was so strong when we got there. That spot could really use some trees. Luckily, we found a really shady spot right next to the canvas tent wagons and had a much better time dealing with the heat in our multi-tree shaded spot. Blue Sky has a lot going for it, and really offers a lot in terms of amenities (kitchen, bathrooms, toilets, etc...), but the neighborhood is really loud if you're looking for peace and quiet. Lots of loud cars go by at random times during the night, barking dogs, roosters, etc...
Just a quick stop.
I just drove in for the night just to sleep before I got back on the road. I stayed in my own vehicle. But I did get a look around a little bit. It was super cute! Especially the sleeping accommodation they had set up. Before leaving in the morning I took a look inside the main building. Lots of information and games. Along with a kitchen and bathrooms with showers and everything you could possibly need. I drove in pretty late but the host stayed awake to help me in case I needed anything. Which I thought was very considerate.
I did dispersed camping and overall, it was a great place. Amenities were great. Bathroom, shower, kitchen was all clean. We only had two other groups there with us and we kept the area pretty clean. The dispersed camping site is not really clear so we set up camp near the cantina so we would be close to everything.
We got in really late around 10pm so it was quite hard to find the dispersed camping section without any signs pointing to it. It had a very compound feel to it. Other than that, we had a fine time as we were the only ones tent camping there!
Easy and lovely dispersed camping
It was my first time in the Cuyama area and I can't recommend Blue Sky enough! My partner and I enjoyed the dispersed camping between a field and the air strip. The raised platforms with tent tie downs were a nice touch. Being able to use the restrooms and kitchen were a total plus. Plus it's just a few minutes' walk from the Buckhorn.
