Eco friendly desert camping. Richard is a friendly host as well as a thoughtful steward of the land. He’d probably double as your climbing guide. Fairly close to town and to the park. Showers and water on site.

We had a fabulous holiday weekend camping in our vans at the Barking Owl. Richard is a gracious, welcoming host, with a clear vision of the community he would like to build at his place. It is clear that he really cares about people. The site itself is quite comfortable, with beautiful views of the surrounding desert and some fine Joshua trees. Amenities included an excellent heated outdoor shower and friendly dogs, which my kid especially appreciated :) We also were thankful that Richard let us move his grill over to a sheltered area near the house when it was a bit too windy to cook over near our site, and then later in the weekend we quite enjoyed meeting some of his friends who were also there for the holiday. This is one of those camping spots that is already awesome, and will only get better with time! Definitely a place that merits repeat visits when in the area.

the area is beautiful and the campsite is very well set up. the shower, toilets, and sink on site were very helpful!

This place was great, nice campsites, we’ll laid out, fairly quiet, and the shower and bbq are great amenities. Richard was a nice host, and I’d probably stay here again when I’m down there.

This was a great spot. Richard is super nice and came to check in with us during our stay to make sure we had everything we needed. The campsites were clean and separated by rock lined pathways. The outdoor shower was awesome. The dogs on the property are very sweet and well behaved, I never heard any barking at all. I also had phone service at this location, if that’s something that matters to you! I would definitely come back for another stay here.

Such a cool spot!! Richard is a fantastic human who is building such an amazing community hub. Outdoor shower is perfect, can't wait to come back when stargazing tubs are set up. Will definitely stay here next time I'm coming through the hi-dez!
