Awesome site!! We camped with the horses and had a lovely time. The hosts in particular were super nice and helpful.
Highly recommended
Our favorite winter camping spot! We come in from Reno, so the weather here in January is always a treat. The new host Mike, was great to us.
My wife, son and I stayed at this beautiful quiet country property for one night over MLK weekend and really enjoyed it. We were greeted upon arrival and the nice gentleman led us to our campsite right away. On the way we saw goats, chickens and dogs on the property.
We stayed at what I think was the best site on the property since it was open and had the best views of the meadow, hence the name, “Meadow View”. It didn’t have much shade, but that wasn’t a problem since we visited in January and it was quite cool. The other sites had more trees and probably would be better in the summer time.
All of the campsites were in the same area where the horses are fenced in and they often grazed in the pasture right next to our site, but they kept to themselves.
Each site had a large wooden picnic table and a fire pit which came in handy in the cool January evening and morning.
At the very back of the property there were lake trails that could be used to access Folsom Lake approximated 10-15 minutes away depending on the water level.
Overall we really enjoyed this quiet and secluded property, and I would recommend it to anyone that’s comfortable camping without bathrooms and running water.

I will definitely be returning!
I thoroughly enjoyed my 2 days & 3 nights at Ascension. The property was Beautiful and well groomed, appeared the trees were even trimmed!
My heart was full hearing and seeing the horses nearby in such an amazing natural environment!
The hosts were also easily accessible and helpful!
I highly recommend this place!
Quiet and Peaceful! Beautiful space to unplug and resonate with nature! Very helpful and attentive hosts? Stayed an extra day it was so relaxing!
Highly recommend a visit!
Great place! Nice walk to lake and gorgeous farm nestled deep away from city life
Pros: very private, pretty drive, friendly horses and dogs, somewhat close to white water rafting areas. Friendly on site guy met us when we arrived.
Cons: difficulty communicating with host—could not reach host via hipcamp app and it took a couple tries over the phone, site was very dry and dusty—savannah is not an understatement, lake was very very very very marshy/muddy and NOT appropriate for swimming—we came on a hot weekend expecting to cool off at the lake, we paid for horseback riding that was not available and only told when we arrived. We paid for a Mule but not many roads upon which to drive it and it didn’t function entirely well. We loved the big ranch dogs but they barked throughout the night and anyone not fond of dogs may have found them intimidating. Horses and dogs hang out looking for food at your campsite a good part of the time. Lots and lots of poop. Also they began excavating the field near our site pretty early which was loud but we had already decided to pack up and leave at that point. We left after 1 night even though we had 2 booked. Mainly due to the heat and the fact the lake was not an option. Not sure if we’ll get a refund for horseback riding or night we left early.

The Ascension Ranch is a huge property. We stayed in Oak Savannah the campsite closest to entrance not far from the horse stables and goat enclosure. For any prospective guest worth knowing that the horses and many many goats roam freely throughout the camp. It seems like people often feed them bc they beg for food and are persistent in searching for it. There is horse and goat manure everywhere and you’ll need to keep your stuff in your car most of the time. Parents do beware when letting little kids roam- we had a momentary scare when one horse bolted unexpectedly near pre-schoolers by our site. We also had an overly friendly horse show up at our campsite at 9pm and act more like a raccoon in search of food, knocking over containers and not at all intimidated by people trying to move it away. It or another horse came back in the middle of the night and knocked more things over and got into the trash. How you feel about goats and horses will dictate how you feel about the campsite. We loved that it was walkable (sadly a much longer walk bc of the drought) to the lake. The trees were beautiful and our site was big and the sites were really well spaced out, we could see another one in the distance but nothing compared to a typical site. They had a super long and nice picnic table. The porta-potty was a pretty gross and while it had notations of regular cleanings until June. On our visit on August 1, it appeared not to have been cleaned or emptied since. Bottom line, we left happy following our one night stay.
