We are so excited to host you! This area has the unique designation of a community with privately owned property in the middle of the Anza Borrego State Park. Primarily due to rugged outdoor loving folks in the 1930's that would make the 6 hour journey by car from San Diego to spend time among the jackrabbits, kit foxes and burros!
About the property
Our property is not a commercial campground. You will be "glamping" at our home. The five acre parcels are "Jack Rabbit Homesteads" granted in 1938 that ensure privacy and back up to Cleveland National Forest. George Leetch of Canebrake said it best...the people who come here "find the peace and beauty of the desert vastness a healing seclusion and comforting relief from the frenzied outside world”. We work to cultivate an atmosphere of united fellowship and good-neighborliness prevails, but a respect for privacy is held in high regard.
We are on the floor of the AB desert surrounded by hiking and four wheel driving trails. The closest town is Julian to the north 45 minutes away and Ocotillo to the South 25 minutes away You can find hot springs 5 minutes away and the stars at night are endless. There are several small stores 10 to 15 minutes away to buy ice and sundries should you need them.
For those looking for outdoor adventures there are four hikes of varying levels directly from our site. There are hot springs 5 minutes away as well as four-wheel drive roads. If you want snow, Julian is 45 minutes away up the mountain and offers good opportunities for snow play. Off-road biking is available in Ocotillo which is 25 minutes away to the South. Road biking is super fun from our site as there is so little traffic where we are!
We live onsite and like to greet Hipcampers at arrival and then leave them to enjoy themselves. We do offer different extra experiences as well if you want to hike, learn to bubble, or learn to prepare raw food. Make sure you take a look at our ‘extras’ during booking if you would like to do one of these.

This is our RV listing! Have an RV and want to hook up to water and septic, while being in the middle of the Anza Borrego Desert? Or do you want to tent car camp? Or do you want to hookup with more friends in your bubble by renting with the Silver Streak? Then back into our one Outside Hookup, and enjoy hiking and stargazing! This site has water and septic hookups but no electricity so please keep that in mind. The maximum length we can accommodate is 36ft. Amenities listed below:

The adventure begins with a bandana challenge that you can complete as a family on your way here. After you complete the challenge, you will all receive a bandana which you can all decorate with markers that we have here at Anza Borrego Glamping. Don't worry adults we really will give you a bandana too. On the child's bed will be a backpack with a deck of cards, a sling shot helicopter and a magic trick. We are happy to instruct how to perform the magic trick and shoot the helicopter if needed. In the last part of the explorer program Dr. E will instruct the family about the rattlesnake program that she works on at the Zoo, train the kids to be Scatologists and introduce them to the plants in the area!

You can have your hot desert and some cool too by renting the evaporative cooler while you're here. The cooler runs water through a pump and fan and lowers the temperature. Can be used in the trailer or on the patio. But, only during the day as our power comes from solar. But, the days are long when you want it, so try it. We are!

Learn the plants and animals of the desert habitat of Anza Borrego in a one hour hike around our 5 acre property. Ellyn leads these educational tours via Zoom all over the United States in conjunction with the San Diego Zoo. This cost is per hiking group not per guest.

We really enjoyed spending three nights at Ellyn’s hip camp in Anza Borrego. A beautiful and quiet place with character. She’s an excellent host and is knowledgeable about the area.

Ellyn is the perfect host! She is communicative, kind and accommodating. She made us feel right at home. The site is great and has an amazing view of the desert. We had water and sewer hookups. If you need electrical, bring an adapter so that you can plug into a regular outlet (no generator use after dark). The place is quiet and secluded with easy access to hiking. I can’t wait to return.
Nice host. Nice site(s). Beautiful star scapes and a very nice desert backdrop. Ellyn suggests being well prepared due to the remoteness of her location and that recommendation holds true. We’d happily hipcamp here again.

Ellyn’s place was great. She was very awesome and greeted us upon our visit and was easily accessible at all times. We stayed in the Silver Streak camper and it was amazing. Highly recommend booking the campsite next to it as well for open fire area and the spectacular sunrises and sunsets. It was nice and warm in the camper. We got to check out the mud caves during our visit which I highly recommend! We also brought our dogs and they all had a great time. We definitely would love to come back!

Ellyn was a great host! She was super friendly and informative. We felt safe with her Covid-19 protocols, masks and social distancing. Her place was amazing as well! Super clean and the bathroom and sink is as a plus! Stargazing was great! We would definitely come back!
Ellyn provided a level spot for our RV in a spacious beautiful desert landscape with vistas all around. We enjoyed star gazing and observing the Great Conjunction from this sweet spot in the desert.
In our self contained RV, and in this vastly spacious area, we felt safe from the COVID menace. Ellyn was very generous and attentive to our needs.

Great spot to camp or glamp. Good hiking right from to site into the mountains. Bring ice!! And this is a semi off grid property so plugging in stuff could be an issue when the suns not shining but hey, your camping :)
