AltOption | LA is a creative escape on the western edge of the Mojave Desert, about an hour and a half outside of Los Angeles. Here, a community of artist entrepreneurs is building out a livable gallery and event space outside of the strictures of the city. There are hundreds of acres of desert surrounding the property, so there's no need to whisper. However, we have to call out the small chance you could hear sound carrying from other areas. It should be infrequent and friendly, but just a heads-up! In addition to the desert expanse, there is a nearby butte, The Sleeping Elephant, which you can scramble up for sweeping views. And, lastly, the final stretch will take you off-road. We recommend 4WD and being mindful of scratching your car. If you are not ready to camp just yet, but want to watch the project evolve, check out @_alt.option on Instagram. Other than that, please just be respectful and keep it clean! -- Dave An obligatory, Mom-and-Dad postscript: this is a desert. Bring water and a hat for the days, and layers and gloves for the nights. Needs a cleaning
The site is nice and secluded which allows campers to enjoy a quiet desert camping session. The fire pit with seating is also enjoyable. However, what's not shown in the pictures are the piles of debris and garbage scattered around the site. While most of it is building materials, the amount of actual trash (empty beer bottles, toilet seats, etc.) are hard to ignore.

A wonderful New Year's Eve
The site was so lovely! Felt super secluded even though we were only a little over an hour away from home! We we're camping for NYE and could hear a far off house blasting EDM - but considering my boyfriend and I are both inn our early 20's it was a welcome addition to our otherwise calm evening. I doubt that would happen on any other occasion, and other than that there was absolutely no noise pollution. The stars were stunning and the site itself had a really wonderful fire pit with a big stack of rugs to place over the logs, ended up being super cozy and definitely kept us warm in the 30-ish temp range. Plenty of space for our Subaru, tent, and a table for cooking. Overall a wonderful experience !!!

Yeah...no.
Hard to find but once we got there it was cool. Set up our tent and built a quick fire. David was great and helpful. Then...we started hearing things. First a dog in the not so far distance. Then people. Not too far but not too close. Once we realized that they could run up on us... we packed up and hightailed it out of there in a few minutes. This was supposed to be a "middle of nowhere" listing. Wouldn't go back. Stars were nice. Getting out left our truck scarred from all the underbrush. 4x4 or you're not going anywhere. Weird and creepy on way out too.

Great spot. A car like an AWD is probably best. Close to civilization but feels far away
