Pitch a Tent in Myrkwood Forest
The vibe was like in a horror movie. The bathroom situation, rusted cars. Me and my kid were too scared to stay there.

The Myrkwood Forest was a very unique experience. Not your ordinary campsite. It has a "Mad Max" off the grid feel in a good way. A small protective barking dogs greeted my arrival. Tiny homes dotted the tree bordered property, a chicken coop had a lot of feathered activity. I saw two black hearses with "ghost tours" on the doors. Many eclectic art work and rusted antiques are scattered about. Dragonflies perched themselves on lines near the campfire. Compost toilet and outdoor shower was near camp site. I enjoyed talking to the owners and having breakfast before I left. Make sure you bring ear plugs to quiet the insect and highway noice.

Don't do it. You'll regret it. We arrived to 4 big dogs that jumped into the car on top of us when we opened the doors no one came to our aid. We could not find where we were supposed to put our tent so we just put it in the yard. The "outhouse" was completely full and closed off with a towel covering the opening and a container set on top of it but full to the brim with feces. We woke up to realize that we had stepped all in poop from the dogs and other animals. The geese kept biting my butt.... No one spoke to us the entire time we were there. Probably because they knew it was crap. The dogs ran off with one of my husband's shoes so we then had to go buy him shoes so we could do anything else which honestly was probably a blessing for him because I had to scrape all kinds of poop off of my shoes. It was the single most horrible experience created by someone else's choices that I have ever experienced. This place should not even be available on this site. I would not pitch my tent there for free. I waited two weeks to give this review thinking I would then be able to look back on the experience with our being angry but it is truly a horrible place and I feel bad for any children that live there.

Great spot to stop and relax on a camping roadtrip down to FL. The people were kind and the space was cozy, and getting greeted by puppies was such a sweet surprise! The warm outdoor shower was lovely, and being able to make coffee in the outdoor kitchen in the morning was so convenient! We definitely plan to stop back on a future roadtrip!

Good place to spend a night or two if you don't mind dogs. Breakfast was provided and plentiful.

Awesome hosts and a very unique property. To be clear, this is not for everyone but may be perfect for some. Our kids really enjoyed the animals and the camp site was tucked away nicely in the woods. We also enjoyed the outdoor shower but be aware that it is very open. Composting toilet was out of service at the time so there was a bucket with toilet seat. We went out to dinner and did not utilize the semi-outdoor kitchen. Yard could use a cleanup; the hearses are creepy.

We spent one night at Myrkwood's, arriving late and leaving early. Joseph responded to our requests and questions promptly, ensuring that we would be met by someone at our late arrival.
Ducks, geese and cats are also cute and welcoming :)
Great platform for quick tent set-up. Clean composting toilet. Perfect location just outside of Savannah.

Our stay was great. Very friendly hosts and creative set up. We loved the outdoor shower, would maybe just recommend adding a curtain for extra privacy but we didn’t mind.

The platform for pitching my tent was actually very enjoyable, I'd never used one before. I felt warmly welcomed by Shawnee, who was in every way a fantastic host. The highway noise didn't keep me from sleeping, but I can see how it might bother some folks. The area was otherwise quiet and peaceable.

It’s quite a unique, eccentric place. I appreciated Joe and his hospitality. Hot shower, shared kitchen, close to Richmond Hill. If you’re looking for perfection, go elsewhere. If you are open to a work in progress a an easy escape, book it!

Great funky little spot. Our hosts were wonderful, we enjoyed hanging out by the communal fire pit and picking up some local knowledge. we opted for the morning breakfast.
Friendly goats, neat forest shower, interesting collection of tiny homes and stuff.

The location was very convenient. It was just outside of Savannah but it felt very secluded. There were highway sounds, but the sounds of the forest mostly drowned that out. There's a shower and composting toilet. They have a site on a platform and a site that's on the ground. I stayed at the site on the ground due to the type of tent I have and it wasn't too far away from the parking area but was nearly completely hidden. The land is very pretty. I spoke to one of the brothers that runs it and he explained everything well and made me feel welcome. There are also farm animals on the property.

Pros: The owner was friendly and still welcomed us into camp, although we arrived around 11pm. He helped direct us to our camp spot and even offered us a platform to camp on incase it rained (our tent was too big, but the gesture was nice). Paths to the camp sites were clear. There were some cool tiny homes and structures that the owners have been building. Running hot water was a huge plus. We were able to shower (outdoor shower was pretty cool) and wash dishes super easily. No one else was camped there while we were there so we had good privacy.
Cons: The property is pretty cluttered with odds and ends, which gives it more of a junk yard feel than a farm feel. The community kitchen was grimy and did not feel sanitary to cook in. We we harassed by the male goat after all goats escaped their pin. We were stuck in our car for a few hours unable to get to the camp site (the owner wasn’t on site the second night and didn’t see our messages until around 2 am) and opening the car door would cue him to come back.
Overall wasn’t terrible. For the price, it’s an okay stay. If they cleaned up, it has potential to be a lovely campground. Not sure what happened with the goats, we just had some bad luck in that regard, I suppose.

We came at a wet hot time end of June. The mosquitos were wild. There is a tent platform that served us well and we had good privacy and a short load in.
There are some repairs that need to be made as the host stated to us. Shower was spacious but open to the camping area if you're shy ask for another wall, water gets hot! The toilet was fine and had a nice view. The dogs were very friendly and wet and muddy. The goats were cute and fun. We didn't tour much more. The breeze in the evening was pleasant with fan. Not too far drive to Savannah like 30 min.

The good:
I can tell the people who run this place are good folks. The directions on the app will drop you off at a church so you have to keep driving until you see the crow mailbox. I love the community kitchen and overall vibe. We didn’t meet in person but the host was really nice and helpful as well. We camped on the wooden platform, and even though we were close to the highway, it was pretty quiet all night!!! Big win for this light sleeper. They also have cute pups, chickens, and the sites are tucked into the trees which I loved.
The eh:
The site is very unkept but there’s so much potential. I don’t really get why the bathroom and showers are publicly visible since the owners are DIY builders with some pretty impressive structures. There are huge gaps in the shower so you can see right in and the bathroom has open walls facing an abandoned trailer. I love a good forest shower as much as the next gal but you just never know what kind of people you’re camping around. This would be an easy fix with some more bamboo slats to fill the huge gaps.
