Enjoy a little sample of a modern homesteading life here. I purchased and moved onto this property in October 2017 in an effort to life a more self sufficient lifestyle: growing and preserving food, reducing energy use, minimizing waste streams, and preparing for a time when less is available. Come relax and recharge and maybe learn a thing or two.

My property is about 3.5 acres containing my home, a barn full of chickens, a pond full of ducks, rabbit hutches, fruit trees, garden space, and small pastures. The property is totally fenced. It is about a 200 ft walk sloped downhill from the driveway to the camp site. A cart is available for use to move your gear up and down. There are some neighbors around, some with a partial view of the camp site. Some children live around, but are generally not noisy.

One of the coolest features is the farm animals. The chickens and ducks generally fine with people being around, but don't tend to get close enough to pet. They are a joy to watch scratch, swim, and feed. The rooster will be your morning alarm clock, if you like to sleep in this may not be the right camp site for you.  The rabbits are cute and soft and can be petted.

There are several trees around that provide great shade and opportunity to put up a hammock. No snakes, ticks, or chiggers have been found so far (probably thanks to the chickens/ducks), but mosquitoes are present in small numbers. You will also probably notice bees, flies, butterflies and other beneficial pollinators in the right season.

The pond is spring fed and stocked with fish (bass, bream, and catfish have been caught, but tilapia and carp are rumored to swim around also) and is open for fishing. I just ask that you be respectful to the wildlife. Feel free to take a dip if you'd like.

I'm currently working on installing a perennial food forest and annual gardens, when in season you are welcome to sample the fruits and vegetables.

As said above the area is a low-density residential area and I do no want campers looking to be loud and party that may cause an issue for myself and neighbors. If you or your pets will be a threat to the property or animals please choose somewhere else. However, if you would like a unique place to experience the homesteading lifestyle or just to peacefully enjoy for a night or two I hope you will consider my place.

Please notify us through Hipcamp messages that you've arrived and we'll provide any current information needed regarding access and any changes to amenities. If you open a gate please close it. If you cannot send/receive messages, please knock on the house door. Above all please enjoy your stay.

*Covid clause - Hand sanitizer is available at camp and the public amenities will be sanitized after each stay. Campers are encouraged to practice social distancing from the hosts, practice good hygiene, and are asked to follow all current state and local health laws and restrictions. This campsite is for people who might desire a crazy experience - sleeping in the hog's land! Our host was incredible at communicating and hosting us, and he offers various spots to camp. We set up our tent right in the pig's environment, and there were little piglets running around. So cute! We met the family and learned a bit about gardening as well.

Great stay. They have a nice building near the pond that they let us sleep in. We were very grateful for that because it was very cold. They were super friendly and even invited us to a high school football game and we had a blast. There werent any pigs, but the ducks and rooster were so much fun! We would definitely recommend them.

John and his family were extremely warm and welcoming. The property had ducks, chickens, bunnies, and a cat. All very friendly and fun to be around. The site itself was nice with a pond that you can fish in.

They invited us up to their fire for good conversation and craft beer swapping. The conversation was full of laughs and stories.

We would highly recommend staying here. Beth and I will probably come visit again if/when we're in the Arkansas area again.

John was great and his property was what we needed for our quick night of rest before hitting the road again. We were sad not to see the pigs but the ducks were sweet. John was very helpful and super kind! Thanks again!

The hosts were welcoming and made everyone feel comfortable! John showed us around the property and described the different vegetables and fruit trees growing around the campsite. The animals were friendly, and John even helped jump our car after the battery died!

We enjoyed our stay! It was our first stop on a cross country road trip as we did not want to stay in hotels and many state parks are still closed. John and Kristen were amazing hosts as they showed us around their homestead. My kids loved fishing and caught several fish! My kids enjoyed putting up 3 hammocks and we didn’t notice many bugs at all. This fit our needs perfectly. The site is as exactly as described. It’s not completely private, the rooster crows super early, the ducks, bunnies, and chickens are cute, it is completely fenced...just as described!

We had a wonderful time camping here, and John and his family were such lovely hosts who really went above and beyond to make our stay a fun as possible - we got to take their kayaks out on the little pond to fish, and look in on some baby bunnies ( a highlight for my daughter)!

It was a good stay. Easy to find. Camping area is about 200 ft from the parking area. John and his wife were super friendly. It’s about 30 minutes from Petit Jean mountain. Try to catch the sunrise there it was unbelievable.
