Privacy! Scenery! And the extraordinary Cadron Creek! Batesville Mountain Campground is about "getting away from it all" with nary another soul in sight. . There are several campsites on the property but no more than a couple of reservations are ever accepted at any time -- usually only one for it is that special!! And jaw-dropping beautiful! Sparky, the stone mason who quarried, cut and stacked every rock on every trail within the campground, has created a wondrous place to come camp and explore. We are now restoring Sparky's original homestead -- the one room cabin (soon to be our new "romantic retreat"), outdoor kitchen and shower, chicken house, and two-hole traditional Swedish utedass–or privy. As to where to sleep ... well you may lay your head anywhere -- under the stars, atop a pinnacle, out in a field or sheltered in the woods by the river. Cadron Boy slept in a rock crevice hidden from view for months before he was discovered. Most people camp in 1) Sparky's Garden -- it is easily accessible, level, soft, and open to the stars yet the rock walls and banisters provide for a homey, safe feeling. An obvious favorite and the most popular spot. However, one of our favorite spots is atop 2) Deer Stand Rock which is literally perched atop a rock pinnacle -- great views but a long fall, be careful; this is NOT a place for "sleepwalkers". USE CAUTION. You can also camp atop the bluff just up the hill from Deer Stand (and closer to your car) and still have some great sunset views. This site even has a picnic table. As for privacy then we suggest 3) Piney Hideaway -- a campsite hidden from view in the stand of a large grove of pine trees west of Sparky's cabin and 4) River Camp -- a small campsite just above the flood plain and close to the creek, Trails from Sparky's Cabin lead in all directions. The best trail -- the one to the creek -- descends over 100 feet to the creek that breaks out into view as you edge your way along the bluff only to find yourself descending a set of steps through a crack in the rocks. The trails from the campsites offer access to hiking, swimming, fishing and paddling. We'll be offering more info and pictures soon but wanted to get this posted if anyone wants a place far removed from everyone else for the Labor Day Holiday weekend.

If you stayed here and have some insider info for us, let us know!
This land is absolutely STUNNING and totally secluded. My husband and I drove five hours just to spend two days on this land and it was SO WORTH IT. We will be returning 100%!!!
Private, interesting land!
We had the BEST time! Didn’t see another soul and felt safe, peaceful, and taken care of. I had cell signal with Verizon so I felt safe in an emergency! We booked Sparky Garden, but when we got there we liked the privacy of Deer Stand Rock more and John let us switch! Deer stand Rock is so cool. We set up camp near our car but hung out on the boulder most of the time! The water was a little too murky and still for us to swim or float but definitely would be better after some rain! Instead we sat by a peaceful brook and found very cool rocks :) will be reccomending to all kinds of friends!
John was very helpful and responsive. The campsite is clean, private, and beautiful. We loved seeing all of the wildlife and swimming in the creek nearby. We will definitely be back to explore more of the trails!
Beautifully private spot
What a beautiful piece of land! A great place to lace up your hiking boots and explore. My sisters and I tent camped at Deer Stand Rock over Memorial Day weekend. We enjoyed some sunbathing and swimming after trekking down to the creek and especially loved seeing the gorgeous stars through the pines at our campfire. We look forward to returning!
This is a great spot!
Very quiet and out of the way.
The hiking down to the stream is a lot of fun!
The top camping spot currently has a lot of ticks but the second one down the path was much better!! We didn’t see nearly as many down there.
A backpacker's paradise
A camping experience I will not soon forget!
Hiking my gear down the steep and narrow path to the river overlook was a challenge, but well worth it. I have never camped atop a Boulder before, but I hope to again!
The spirit of this land holds wisdom worth hearing. Listen deeply to learn of its trials and triumphs!
BEAUTIFUL area, there was another group camping there which was weird because they said we could have our pick of anywhere in the park as there is only one group at a time, but there were plenty of sites. Very private and gorgeous. Lots of ticks.
