We are located only 12 miles from I-40, just north of Vilonia. Our Homestead Farm: Barefoot Gardens, is on 8 acres of hardwood forest, where we use various Permaculture techniques to grow over 140+ varieties of various herbs, fruits, vegetables, trees and flowers!

The nights here are peaceful and filled with the soothing sounds of treefrogs. Fireflies dance in the night air as the stars peak thru the leaves overhead! (We commonly camp in our own yard for this exact same reason!)

Besides multiple camping locations and a beautiful forest, we also host over a dozen Educational Workshops and Homestead Demonstrations! Most all workshops/demonstrations are kid friendly as well! (Workshops are listed below in this description. They are also listed in the 'Extras' section of our HC profile.)

Here at Barefoot Gardens, you will find many fun and interesting places to explore and enjoy! Here is a list of some of our favorites!

- A 10x12 secluded, screen enclosed, roofed platform (10x12) is available for camping in the forest. This location is 600 ft. from parking area. Electricity is provided (No A/C or heat, please!) A firepit with a metal cooking grill and a small picnic table are also provided. A compost toilet is attached to the backside of the platform as well. Multiple hiking trails intersect near and around this area!

- Tent camping is available in various locations throughout the yard and forest, with available access to electricity and water (No A/C ort heat, please!)

- Plenty of great places to hang up hammocks! (Including our 3 level Treefort!)

- RV's and pull behind camper's welcome! (up to 25 feet only please) Only very QUIET generators are allowed! If you need to run your A/C or heat for extended periods of time, while hooked into our electricity, please add $10 onto each day you stay with us!  And NO... you cannot empty your black water tank here.    [4 day maximum stay, please!]

- Firepits available next to campsite locations

- An outside shower, located in the large garden ('The Flower Shower")

- Over a mile of hiking trails, with bridges that cross over seasonal springs and moss covered ridges. Trails go up and down several valleys and ridges, so there are several rest spots along the way. (Trails have been clearly marked with Blue trail markers, for easy navigation!)

- A large Herb Spiral featuring 25+ medicinal/cooking herbs and over a dozen more in our main garden and yard as well!

- Fresh picked greens, veggies, berries and Farm Fresh Chicken/Turkey eggs from our chickens are available for purchase too! (Located in the 'GOODS' section of our HipCamp profile! (Fruit/Veggie/Egg availability change depending on time of year.)

Besides all the beauty, trails and fun here at Barefoot Gardens... we also host multiple informative and educational workshops! More info about these can be found in the 'EXTRAS' section of our HipCamp profile!

This was the perfect place to stay! We had such a wonderful time - it was exactly what we needed for an overnight in the woods. It's so close and convenient, and Ethan went out of his way to make us feel welcome and comfortable. The property is beautiful and the little platform is so quaint and rustic - perfect for a quick getaway! We didn't have the opportunity to participate in any of the classes, but will definitely be returning to take advantage of all the great information available.

Loved this place! It was perfect for what I needed. I stayed in the covered platform, and it was awesome. I brought a cot and a sleeping bag, and that was all I needed. Great place for simple, easy setup. Nice forest setting and very private.
Ethan was an awesome host! Super friendly and very helpful. Did I mention that I loved this place?

Rustic Forest camping Getaway was a great place to rest for a weary traveler. Beautiful! He was a great host. He offered me a screen in platform in the middle of the forest! Wish I would have had more time to take it all in.

Phenomenal Experience

If you are driving to Arkansas I highly recommend you hit up the zip camp. Meredith and Ethan are the kindest couple and when I told him about a meteor shower they brought me down the street to the perfect viewing area. They showed me around the property which has trails if you enjoy hiking like myself. I was fortunate enough to have a platform so I could practice yoga outdoors with the beautiful sounds of nature around me.

The best part about the trip was that I signed up for the crystal hounding experience. It was better than any private mine I could’ve gone to on my own. I will definitely be hitting this hip camp up annually as it has quickly became one of my favorite places

Staying here was great! Ethan met me and gave me a tour around and was super hospitable. I stayed in the platform in the woods which was wonderful especially during the full moon which gave the forest a peaceful glow. I wish I had more time to explore and hang out!

The host met me at the property, and gave me a quick lay of the land tour including showing me the raised platform that would be my home for the night. Like so many of my hipcamp trips, I was running later than I'd like so I didn't have a lot of extra time. The raised platform was great. It has a roof, an outhouse, and Ethan has enclosed it with bug netting making a tent unnecessary. I'm hoping to have a little more time on my next visit so I can see around the property and trails.

My bed for the eveningThe view from next to the platformThe raised platform means you have a roof over your head and no tent is necessary

Staying here was a slice of heaven. The way Ethan and his family live is so simple and humbling! If you love plants, exploring, mind opening conversations, and a quiet space, visit here! It was a stop on my long journey across the country. I slept so soundly and really enjoyed the tour of the property. We made a solid connection and I hope to visit and see how the space grows! The dogs and cats were a huge plus for me too since I miss my pets!

Response from Ethan, the Host, on June 29th, 2021

You were an awesome guest! Getting to talk about all the native plants and exploring our herb spiral during our 'Foraging in Arkansas' walkabout was especially cool 'cuz you educated me about a few herb uses I didn't know too! You are definitely welcome back if you swing down to Arkansas again!! ♡
