Thinking about starting your OWN Homestead? This workshop focuses on the "backbone" of our homestead... our methods used and WHY we have chosen to use them. Workshop will cover: Composting, Permaculture Methods in the Garden, Managing a Small - but Successful Greenhouse, Managing Chickens and Poultry, Managing Beehives, Building with Reclaim, Rain Collection, Growing your Own Medicine, Land Management and more! Because of the many subjects covered in this workshop... participants should expect to spend an hour discussing and walking around our property.

Come tour Barefoot Gardens with us under the stars and moon, sipping wine and stopping with us at all our plant friends along the way! Our nightly 'Yard Tours' have become a family tradition and are always a big hit with all the garden lovers who come and visit us! (And a great way to check out our extensive gardens while avoiding the heat of the daytime!) You don't need wine to enjoy the tour... But, we don't mind supplying 1 glass of red wine to our legal age participants! (You are also welcome to bring your own wine, beer (etc.) if red wine isn't your thing! Haha!) All participants should bring a flashlight and wear appropriate shoes for night time walking. Parents: Children are welcome to join tours as well (for free!) ...but, they MUST have their own flashlight!

We have over 140+ VARIETIES of plants growing here (and that's just the ones that we have personally started in our soil!) As we visit each plant friend, knowledge about them will be talked about as well! Tips on growing, cooking ideas, medicinal/nutritional uses, compatible companion planting, pollinator attracting and more! Participants will be allowed to harvest select produce to keep, if available! Depending on time of the year: Tomatoes, Basil, Okra, Peppers, Peas, Kale, Green Onions, Lettuce, Squash, Cucumber, Garlic, Potatoes and more...

Every week, here at Barefoot Gardens, we work on some type of important garden project. These projects can vary depending on participants garden knowledge and age. This is a HANDS-ON workshop, meaning that besides being educational and informative, participants will actively be involved in the project at hand (Harvesting Basil, Digging up Garlic, Tomato pruning/training, Transplanting seedlings... etc,) Participants may want to have a sun hat. We have several pairs of garden gloves available for kids and adults!

All Ages! Kids can join for FREE! Come explore our beautiful wooded forest and discover our many trails! Collectively, we have over a mile of trails, dipping up and down through the ridges of our land. Participants can 'choose their own adventure' at any of our multiple 3-way trail intersections or we can simply stick to the main trail! Depending which trails we take, we may cross 1 of the 2 bridges, see the seasonal springs, discover 'Mossy Tops' or 'Carpet Moss', wander thru the Wild Blueberries, see the 'Bent Indian Marker Tree' or many of our other interesting trees and locations along the way! (ALL our trails loop back to our house. Trails are clearly marked with BLUE ribbons, making it easier for participants to enjoy trails on their own at a later time!) Participants must wear appropriate hiking shoes. Hiking sticks are helpful as well, we have a few that we can loan out, if needed!

Each 1 oz. container of liquid is made here at Barefoot Gardens and has become very sought after by most everyone who has used it! It stops the itch very quickly, allowing the skin to heal!

Workshop explains the soap making process and the tools needed as well as how to use Lye safely. Soaps are made from Coconut oil or tallow (depending on availability.) Also, infusing herbs into soap, such as Jewelweed... to create a 'Poison Ivy Relief' soap!

Workshop explains how to bend, shape and texture copper wire into beautiful earrings, rings, pendants and bracelets. Copper wire is provided.

Workshop will explain various methods of wire wrapping including Framing, Caging and Weaving. Wire will be provided to participants and needed tools will be available as well. If you have a specific stone or crystal you wish to wire wrap, please bring it with you! Otherwise, a few small crystals will be provided. Larger crystals and 'faced' crystals also available for purchase! (Quartz Crystals, Fire Agates, Chalcedony, Serpentine, Jasper and more!)

Surrounded by forest, you can now live out your childhood fantasies and play Old School Nintendo in a 3 level treefort as late as you want! Haha! Our 3 level treefort was designed to comfortably fit a hammock (not provided) through the direct center of the 2nd level. So, you can play Mario, DigDug or whatever without having to leave the comfort of your hammock! Camping on the 2nd level is an option too! (The treefort's 2nd level comfortably fits 2 sleeping bags... and the ground level platform fits a small tent or 3 sleeping bags! Just don't try to sleep in the Crow's Nest! hahaha!) *** $10 fee is the 'Nintendo Hook-Up" Fee for the group ---> NOT per person

We make some pretty good Margarita's! Hahaha! We will even help you drink 'em! Usually we add frozen Blueberries, Blackberries and/or Strawberries. If any of our berries are in season, we will harvest them fresh to add! *** NOTE! ---> CAMPERS MUST SUPPLY THE TEQUILA... we DO NOT have Tequila here! This is also a dry county, so it will have to be bought before arriving. Please let us know ahead of time, so we can be sure to have all the other ingredients!

Workshop will include techniques on how to find Quartz Crystals in Arkansas (specifically Mt. Ida and Jessieville... but nearly a dozen crystal digging sites can be chosen from.) Where to look, clues to look for and how to find 'veins' of Quartz will all be discussed. Also, how to clean your crystals after harvesting them. NOTE: This workshop is hosted off site! Participants are required to be responsible for their own food and travel involved, as well as assuming all risks involved in the ethically harvesting of Quartz crystals.

Workshop involves walking down to one of our springs and explaining what to look for to find a spring and how to tap one after you have found it.

Workshop will be a hands-on discussion about working, shaping and cutting semi-precious stones and crystals for Jewelry Making and Crafting. If participants have specific stones that are wanting to be worked, they must be brought at the time of workshop. Otherwise, many of my hand collected crystals can be purchased for use in the workshop. (Currently have hand harvested Quartz crystals, Chalcedony, Fire Agate and Jasper available.) *** This workshop will include the use of a Wet Saw and a Foredom (basically a very powerful Dremel). Safety glasses and a dust mask are required/provided for participants.

This workshop will include discussions on culling chickens HUMANELY and how to quickly process meat for freezing and eating. (Depending on when workshop is held and if participants are camping... a freshly processed chicken can be cooked for dinner!) This workshop is a hands on and messy. Participants should plan on getting wet and clothes getting dirty. Outside shower is available to participants at any given time during or after workshop. *** This workshop is only available twice a year and date/times are subject to change based off the needs of our homestead. If this workshop interests you, contact us ahead of time and ask when our next chicken processing workshop will be held.

Workshop will include walking on our trails and around the yard, foraging for naturally occurring edibles. Availability and diversity of edible plants will change throughout the year... but, wild mushrooms, leafy greens, berries, fruits and roots will be discussed and/or eaten. (If workshop is hosted March - June 9th... a tasty "Yarden Salad" will be harvested for eating.)

Workshop will explain our use of many aspects of Permaculture: Hugelculture, 'Lasagna' Beds, Planting a Food Forest, Wicking Buckets, Planting for Pollinators and the Benefits of Vermiculture (Worm Bins). Also, the various techniques used in our intelligently designed DIY greenhouse. (Thermal Mass, Hugelculture, Rain Collection, Building with Reclaimed Materials and How to Encourage Lizards to Work for You.)

In the 4 years that we have bought this land... we have created nearly 3000 lbs of beautiful, healthy soil! This workshop will explain how we use a 5 bin compost system to create up to 200 lbs. of compost every 2 weeks... as well as our low management 'rough compost' pile which produces up to 800 lbs. of beautiful compost every year! Techniques used for creating the best quality compost, where to find/how to find enough produce for a mass composting system, how to nurture the mycelia in your piles and how to get your compost pile to reach 140 F... will all be explained in this workhop.

Walking In our Herb Spiral and in our garden, this workshop will discuss the 25+ various medicinal herbs found on our land! Workshop will focus on how to identify and use many of the herbs that we grow, as well as some of the native herbs that grow locally. (We make herbal teas, salves/soaps, tinctures, smudge sticks, Poison Ivy relief medicine and more! We will discuss many of these throughout the workshop!) ----> Participants are welcome to pick various cooking or medicinal herbs to take home afterwards! If seasonally available, we can make an Herbal tea to enjoy as well! **Herbs vary depending on time of the year!
