We are located only 12 miles from I-40, just north of Vilonia. Our Homestead Farm: Barefoot Gardens, is on 8 acres of hardwood forest, where we use various Permaculture techniques to grow over 140+ varieties of various herbs, fruits, vegetables, trees and flowers!
The nights here are peaceful and filled with the soothing sounds of treefrogs. Fireflies dance in the night air as the stars peak thru the leaves overhead! (We commonly camp in our own yard for this exact same reason!)
Besides multiple camping locations and a beautiful forest, we also host over a dozen Educational Workshops and Homestead Demonstrations! Most all workshops/demonstrations are kid friendly as well! (Workshops are listed below in this description. They are also listed in the 'Extras' section of our HC profile.)
Here at Barefoot Gardens, you will find many fun and interesting places to explore and enjoy! Here is a list of some of our favorites!
- Over a mile of hiking trails, with bridges that cross over seasonal springs and moss covered ridges. Trails go up and down several valleys and ridges, so there are several rest spots along the way. (Trails have been clearly marked for easy navigation!)
- An Herb Spiral featuring 25+ medicinal/cooking herbs and over a dozen more in our main garden and yard as well!
- A large Terraformed Garden featuring multiple Permaculture techniques, a Beehive and a small Orchard as well! (Fresh picked greens, veggies, berries and Farm Fresh Chicken/Turkey eggs from our chickens are available for purchase too! (Located in the 'GOODS' section of our HipCamp profile! (Fruit/Veggie/Egg availability change depending on time of year.)
- An outside shower located in the large garden AKA 'The Flower Shower" (warm season only.)
- A flock of nearly 30 Free-Range Birds including many types of chickens, Guineas and Turkeys.
- A 3 level Tree Fort in the woods! Made specifically for a Hammock to be strung up on the 2nd level! For a $10 fee... You can even have an Old School Nintendo hooked up in the Treefort so you can play all night if you want!! (Look in our Extras to purchase this option!)
- Lots of great places to hang up Hammocks!
Besides our Homestead practices... we also have multiple Campsites, Hangouts and Peaceful Corners to explore!
- Our "Barefoot Bungalow", a 10x12 secluded, screen enclosed, roofed platform (10x12) that is available for camping in the forest. This location is 600 ft. from parking area. Electricity is provided (No A/C or heat, please!) A firepit with a metal cooking grill and a small picnic table are also provided. A compost toilet is attached to the backside of the platform as well. Multiple hiking trails intersect near and around this area!
- Multiple "Primitive" Tent Camping is available in various locations throughout the yard and forest, SOME with available access to electricity.
- RV's and pull behind camper's welcome! (up to 25 feet only please) Only very QUIET generators are allowed! If you need to run your A/C or heat for extended periods of time, while hooked into our electricity, please add $10 onto each day you stay with us! A great little quiet space to rest. Very close to lots of hiking and Ethan and his family are very welcome. The animals are incredibly sweet.
We loved camping here as couple with our infant. Bungalow was awesome, with rain proof roof and bug proof screen, and Ethan was friendly and accommodating. He showed us around the property on arrival and made sure to bring us a fan since it was a little hot when we showed up. We bought eggs to eat for breakfast and they were delicious. Overall a great first camping trip for our girl!

A lovely place to stay! Very environmentally conscious and I loved the pets we got to see.
Beautiful, down to earth, homestead with super friendly hosts! Upon arrival I was warmly greeted and shown around the farm! Great spot!
A blissful escape.
Wow wow wow! Our group was searching for a place to stay for a night pretty last minute, and we came across this one. Our expectations were MORE than exceeded when we were met with friendly faces, beautiful nature, and some pretty awesome learning opportunities. Our group decided to do the morning garden tour with hot coffee, but there was so much we wanted to see so we ended up walking around the land with the owner both at night AND in the morning! Ethan mentioned some herb/gardening workshops as well as rocks/crystal workshops that he was thinking of starting up. We were very intrigued by all he had to say and will definitely be coming back for some workshops! Aside from the great stories we got to hear over a hot cup of joe, the camp stay itself was very nice. After setting our camp up at the screened in deck area in the woods, we walked around the trails on the land and got to appreciate all the natural beauty they had to offer. The hosts were so, so welcoming and offered us anything we had needed for our stay.
I would 11/10 recommend staying here- you won’t regret! :)

Getting back to nature weekend!
Rustuic Foirest Camping Getaway is a wonderful weekend or longer getaway. We enjoyed our stay , hiking and visiting the farm animals. Ethan and his family are very nice and helpful. We will definitely return when we are in the area.

Peaceful and educational!
Picked this place on a whim, needing a getaway. It was just what we needed! The camp spot in the back is perfect for feeling secluded, and the people were super nice. Learned a lot from Ethan in such a short time! Definitely would recommend and will be going back!

Fantastic camping!
This was the perfect place to stay! We had such a wonderful time - it was exactly what we needed for an overnight in the woods. It's so close and convenient, and Ethan went out of his way to make us feel welcome and comfortable. The property is beautiful and the little platform is so quaint and rustic - perfect for a quick getaway! We didn't have the opportunity to participate in any of the classes, but will definitely be returning to take advantage of all the great information available.
Loved this place! It was perfect for what I needed. I stayed in the covered platform, and it was awesome. I brought a cot and a sleeping bag, and that was all I needed. Great place for simple, easy setup. Nice forest setting and very private.
Ethan was an awesome host! Super friendly and very helpful. Did I mention that I loved this place?
