40 acres hosted by Leslie H.
3 RV/tent sites

This 40 acres has been in our family for 3 generations. It was formerly part of a much larger cattle ranch and has been host to many, many camping trips. This is a remote area with primitive camping and all that entails. We love the remote-ness but it is not for everyone. This land was part of a northern migration by nomadic hunter and gatherers and has continued to be an unofficial northern migration route for people through time. This area is a highway for migration of many species of birds and animals. It is a mecca for migration because it has one of the only water sources available. Learn more about this land: Pitch your tent, throw out your bag, sleep under the stars in a primitive Arizona mesquite bosque. Choice of primitive camping sites. One RV electric hookup, no blackwater emptying station. This is a 40 acre parcel with the resident on 5 acres just off the main road. You'll find us 12 miles up a dirt road on the East side of the Rincon Mountains in Arizona. Very laid back area with lots of wildlife including bear, bobcat, snakes, javelina, coatimundi, raccoons, skunks, mountain lions, and lots of birds.Pitch your tent, throw out your bag, sleep under the stars in a primitive Arizona mesquite bosque. Tulgey Wood
A wonderful, peaceful night
Tulgey Wood is a nice, private property, with lots of space. We had a very peaceful night listening to the night sounds, away from traffic and city chaos. Our dogs had a terrific time running through the grass and weeds and splashing through the wading pool to drink. There is a hose and spigot for water to wash up and the host puts out a trash can to secure garbage from any wildlife. Given the height of fire season, we brought our propane grill for cooking rather than have an open fire and it worked out great.

Tulgey Wood
Jo Leslie was the perfect host at Tulgey Wood where I camped for four nights with a dog and a cat -- all of us made to feel more than welcome. Among other things, she provided a book on the local area, a trip to the local community center and a great spot to watch the sunset. The mornings were filled with the sound of birds and sightings that included a vermillion flycatcher and wild turkeys at the edge of a mesquite woods. Tulgey Woods offers a remote and beautiful location to appreciate the Arizona wilderness. And I'm glad I took advantage of the offer of a dozen eggs on arrival! Highest recommendation.

Tulgey Wood
Enjoyed our visit to Jo Leslie’s wonderfully remote 40 acres on the middle San Pedro River. Sit a spell with Gould’s turkeys and take a guided walk under cottonwoods in the unique desert riverbed. Thanks for loaning us a book about river ecology and the hand-drawn map to direct us through San Manuel, instead of Benson, on the way back to Phoenix.

Wow! Well first let me say that Leslie, the host, couldn't have been a better hipcamp host. She communicated well the entire time we were there, which we ended up extending our 5 night another whole week. She offered to give us tours of her land as well of the nearby small town. She also offered to let us join her in volunteering at a nearby farm! She gave us a board game for windy days and left us a book to flip through about the local landscape. She was friendly, kind, and flexible. She picked up ice for us while she was in town and sold us farm fresh eggs from a neighbor. Her land is beautiful and there is lots to explore. You can walk to the san pedro river (dry) and nearby blm land. Leslie was working on adding some really neat features while we were there, like an outdoor shower and a beautiful shaded area. We saw wild turkeys, javelinas, lizards, and lots of birds while there! The sunsets are lovely. Lots of firewood. It was pretty dusty and windy while we were there (mid Feb) and the dirt road to get there is pretty long and lots of washboards, but a tucked away gem for sure!
