Apparently we are not meeting the expectations of everyone coming to camp with us. In order to prevent further disappointment, we have added the following paragraphs.

I would like to begin our introduction by saying that We Are A Primitive Camp Ground! We only have a limited number of camp sites that are developed to full convenience. We have many awesome spots, but most require a small to moderate amount of time to clean and dress up for Very Awesome Campsites! We Do Not Have huge numbers of fully developed campsites! We Do Have Tremendous Opportunities for You to Come and Commune With Nature, as you clear out your own personal campsite!   A simple cutting tool, such as a machete or ax, will make short and quick work out of your campsite prep.

In addition to Primitive Camping, Murchison Farm also serves as a Wildlife Preserve and Timber operation, as well as several more functions.

Primitive Camping, may not be for everyone! I suggest that you take the Name, into account, and do a little research into the Actual Practice.

If You are looking for an orderly and well groomed commercial Campground, Our Primitive Campground may not be for you.

Pitch your tent in one of our beautiful grass  covered fields and enjoy access to 263 acres of pure nature. You can go fishing, swimming, hiking, or sit back and enjoy the sounds of nature on this farm out in the country.  You can even go wading in a beautiful creek.  Get off the beaten path! If you live in the city, you will see stars, in the night sky, that you never get to see where you live. 35 minutes from Millers Ferry on the Alabama River.  50 minutes from Montgomery, the state capital, and 30 minutes from Cambrian Ridge golf course on the Robert Trent Golf Trail.  We are horse friendly and have a pen where you can keep your horses. Stalls are in the plans and hopefully should be completed sometimes late next year!

Should you be interested, we also offer flowers, fruit trees, crepe myrtles, and other plants, for sale. Just ask, and I will be happy to show you what we have. We have added some of our Heirloom Plants and Seeds to our Hipcamp listing. You can purchase them and I will have them waiting for you when you arrive!

PLEASE REMEMBER, MURCHISON FARM IS A PRIVATELY OWNED CAMPGROUND. DO NOT TAKE ANYTHING AWAY THAT YOU DID NOT BRING IN! With the exception of any additional items you might purchase., such as flowers, plants, or Fat Lighter Kindling. Please adhere to this rule, so that we are not forced to raise our camping rates. We try diligently to provide a Top Quality Environment, at the lowest rates possible! Thank YOU!

We have made some major changes, that began this year! We Opened our Camping Season on March 1st and now extend it throughout the entire year! We have eliminated the hunting lease and are now a Wildlife Preserve!

We are focused on a major effort to vastly increase our Wildflower populations as we have begun planting a minimum of 1 million new seeds, each year for the next 3 years! The colors should be awesome! We are planting strawberry patches, Blueberry bushes, and Fruit Trees, as well as improving existing stock!

Now is the perfect time to come and enjoy exploratory hikes and leisurely walks along our many roads and trails! There are very few tall grassy areas and most of the ground is still visible, from this years controlled burns! The number of plants blossoming will steadily increase throughout this growing season, providing multi colored eye candy!

We have to boats available for rent, for those who would like to go boating on the ponds. Boat rental is $10 per day. Please let me know, at your arrival, if you would like to make a boat rental. You are responsible for Your boating party's safety and well being.  If you are not experienced with boating, please do not try a boat rental until after you have achieved some experience and are knowledgeable of boating safety!

We also have some bundles of Fat Pine Lighter Heart kindling, should you care to purchase one of those. It always comes in handy starting campfires, wherever your go!

If you have not been exposed to the Corona Virus, we also offer a secluded area to come and lay low, until the crisis has passed! We are not gouging prices and we ask that you not come, if you have been exposed to the Virus, until you have passed through adequate quarantine!

IMPORTANT :

If You are getting tired of those 4 walls yet, Murchison Farm's Wildlife Preserve and Primitive Campground offers a Great Place to take a break, and get Out into the Wide Open Outdoors! Don't waste time, make Your Social Distancing Experience exciting and full of new experiences! If you are interested in some of our current Blossoms catering to Pollinators. I caught some photos of a huge Green Moth, just shortly after it exited the cocoon. It's wings were mostly dried out, except for the very ends. They were still curling out. Would have been Nat. Geo. awesome if the full event had been videoed! If You look at the Photos, compare the Moth's size to the Pick-up Tire! I would love to see You add some of Your Own photos!!If You like to Fish, You might want to book early. We only have 2 areas with Bass, Brim, etc... And only 2 areas where You can Fish Ultra-Light. Each camping party will be assigned only one of these sites.

We will have very little interaction with guest, other than an occasional check to make sure all is well.

I think I Amy have had higher expectations for what to expect of the farm. I did read that the campsites are very primitive, which was totally fine to me. My issue was that this is not a working farm and is not maintained in any way. I came in my car and was able to get to my campsite, but that was it. The grass to get anywhere else is crazy high and I was really worried about snakes since you can’t see where you’re walking at all.
I brought my dogs specifically for us to go swimming and enjoy the 2 ponds and creek. Both ponds are almost impossible to get to. Anthony was extremely helpful with giving me directions and did come to let me follow him to the pond because, again, no roads you’re just driving through 2-3ft tall grass. I got to the top of a hill and walked down to the pond with the dogs and there was so much trash. The whole path to the pond is covered with beer cans and water bottles. Once down at the pond, it’s very quiet, and peaceful. But again, no way to actually get into the water without climbing through the vegetation. I opted out of swimming since the walk was really too long for a person alone to make in case of any emergencies. I can 100% day if I died out there, no one would find me for a long time LOL!!
Overall it was a disappointment as I was really excited about getting in the water and letting my dogs play in the creek. Never found the creek btw, was told it was on the other side of the property. And after the hike to the pond I figured it would have been more work than it was worth. Really wish there was just some mowing done.
The campsite it self was nice. It was quiet, lots of wildlife, and great shade by a beautiful oak tree. I ended up not staying the night unfortunately. I over estimated how much my dogs would like being outside all day haha! They did love being off leash and exploring.

This would 100% be the perfect place and make a killing if there was access to the water.

We enjoyed our visit to Murchison Farm. Anthony and his mother were very pleasant, and welcomed us upon arrival. They led us to a camping site, but let us know of we wanted to camp elsewhere on the property that we could do so. While we were driving a 4x4 off road truck, they were driving a Buick, so this camping spot is easy to access for most vehicles.

We visited primarily for the dark night sky and quiet, both of which we were pleased to find in abundance. Even though we visited during the end of Winter, we saw wildflowers as well as naturalized daffodils and lily of the valley. In Spring/Summer there should also be roses and other wildflowers based on the plants we saw that weren't quite in bloom.

Note that we took everything we needed with us: shelter (tent attaches to truck bed for above ground sleeping), water (drinking and washing), food, etc. We wanted this sort of camping, not a state park experience with concrete pads, electricity, and noise.

We are glad we visited and hope to visit again.

We got rained out for most of the time we were supposed to be there, but we still went down and spent time at the site. We had a blast. Anthony was really helpful and easy to communicate with. Neat place with lots of room to get out and do different things. Will definitely be back.

The farm is beautiful and truly private if you’re looking for something off the beaten path. Anthony was prompt and friendly, making sure we had everything we needed to be comfortable. The trail to the sites could be kept up better - it was overgrown and we had to move a few small fallen trees out of the path in order to get through, so make sure you’re driving an appropriate vehicle (my Subaru Impreza did just fine). I would camp here again!

Murchison Farm is a very special place and Anthony makes his land that much better. If you are a true outdoor enthusiast who finds an appreciation for boondock camping you should give his farm a try. Due to incoming weather I only stayed for one night but in that short time I was able to relax with nature and catch a few of Anthony's prized largemouth bass . He goes over and beyond to get his guests situated and I was thankful for that.

I found Murchison Farm when doing a search for dark sky areas for telescope viewing, and this spot did not disappoint. Very low light pollution (Bortle Scale 2 based on the dark sky map I use), and the field I was in had a very big sky/low horizon- which is what I was hoping for. I was only able to stay one night and had some clouds form late, but had some great views including the NEOWISE comet.
