Loved Buffalo Gap Retreat! My kids really enjoyed the kayaks and water toys available for use at the lake. The Berry picking trail was a little too steep/uneven for young kids and older folks, but perfect for seasoned hikers. We were very glad we could bring our dog, he had a blast!
We rented The Nook campsite for our family and really loved the privacy and shade from the trees! It was just a short walk to the lake, bathhouse, and dining hall. Be aware, the campsite has lots of tree roots protruding from the ground, so again, not great for young kids or older folks. We had more than one incident with someone tripping in a tree root! We also had a difficult time finding a smooth enough area to pitch our tent, the kids did not have air mattresses, just camping pads, so they were a little uncomfortable. Next time we will bring tarps to protect the tent floor from being torn by roots and maybe a rug for inside the tent to make it more comfortable.
One more thing if you are bringing young children, there is poison ivy EVERYWHERE! Of course we expected some, and there are signs warning to look out for it, but it was pretty hard to avoid at our campsite and the paths leading to other areas of the campsite. We used some large branches we found around the campsite to mark out "paths" through the campsite for our younger kids just so they didn't get too close to it, and we had to stay diligent when walking around the Retreat.

I think the location of the retreat and the surrounding area is beautiful. We had the group camping site, the Nook, which was private but the brick wall surrounding the site detracted from feeling like you were out in nature. The bathrooms were a disappointment because they were either out of order or not tended too (ie out of toilet paper). We camp a lot and most of the state campgrounds we have stayed in have better bathrooms than this retreat. The food in the hall was great and we were impressed with the coffee. I think this place could be a jewel if they invest in better bathroom facilities and make their camping spots more natural. The beach house near the lake needs more amenities because it’s useless as is. The equipment is dated and very worn and it really serves no purpose.

The reservation process, the site itself and the service were amazing. My family and friends went there in October 2021. In spite of clear forecast it was raining throughout the whole weekend and the camp offered service of dining in which was great and inexpensive.

Large, private site. Great for social distancing. We had a lot of rain, so were glad to have the sauna, pavilion, and cafe. Make sure you reserve the sauna. Only one family at a time.

Nook was very private for our group of 3 families and the Buffalo Gap is a gorgeous location for camping. The beautiful lake, trails and surroundings made it very calm and relaxing. Hosts were accommodating and ready to jump in and help. They even let us do a late checkout. I would highly recommend and we are for sure going back.

Very nice campground and the hosts were super friendly! We had a great first experience here despite it being cold and rainy - we booked for two nights but only ended up staying one because of the weather. We were really bummed about that but it's totally uncontrollable - we can't wait to try again and come back later in the summer! I would definitely recommend this place but am hesitant for fear that it will become too busy once the secret gets out! :)

Great camping site for a bigger group and families. Slightly tucked away between trees to give privacy and has a small lake with canoes that is free to use.
