1301 4th St Sheffield TX 79781. This is not a typical RV park, RV site or camping site. This is a 1/2-acre lot located on the edge of a small town. A primitive site. Please read the full description and look at the pictures to get a good idea of what this site is. This camping site is more for folks traveling I-10 that need a cheap place to camp for the night because it sits on a long stretch of interstate without any options for camping. There is one house to the West, one house to the East and the other houses on the block are all vacant. There is no RV pad or tent pad to setup on, you just park and setup on the grass. It borders two large ranches on the South and East. What it does have is amazing views of the mountains and some of the best dark sky in West Texas! Very little light pollution! There is a small grove of trees for shade and water on the property. There is a public park with restrooms located by the county swimming pool on the corner of Hwy 348 & Pine St. Contact me for anything else needed.
There are no stores or gas stations in this town. The street around my site is a public street so expect to see the local folks out enjoying a slow evening drive. If that worries you then this place is not for you.
No need to check in or check out. If you are interested in any local attractions contact me. There is an art studio a mile away. There is a historic fort a few miles away. A shooting range about a mile away. And there are a few GeoCache in the area.
Feel free to park your vehicle or camper anywhere on the grass around the Sheffield Camping sign and trees. The 30amp RV plug is a separate site so please do not block access to that site. If heavy rains are expected you may want to contact me to avoid parking in a low/flood area.

Safe, peaceful, cheap
Love this place! It feels like a set from a small town desert movie. The little campsite is clean and kept up, so were the park bathrooms 1 minute down the road. A lot of houses had their front doors open at night which gave me the impression this is a very safe town. A cop drove by the campsite 2-3 times through the night. You can’t hear the Highway traffic at all but it’s still only a 3-5 minute drive off of it. Tons of stars at night and the sunset and rise over the mountains is real nice. I would gladly pay $10 to stay here in a safe spot where I can charge my devices and refill my water jugs, than at a rest top or Walmart parking lot for free. Closest 24 hour convenience store is 20 mins away in Iraan, but I had everything I needed. Host was very quick to respond, but I had no issues.
Inexpensive, convenient & safe
I was really excited to discover this spot. It's easy to get to off of I-10 and incredibly peaceful with pretty views. It's not fancy and you are technically at the edge of a neighborhood, but there is plenty of space and I had privacy. The infrequent passerby was friendly. I would definitely stay here again if I pass back through. As for directions - when I tried to put the full address into Apple maps, it kept trying to send me to the next town over. When I just put in "4th Street" and the town, it took me right to it. There's a sign on the property that says Sheffield Campgrounds, so you'll know you're in the right spot. The host was helpful and responsive, too.
Great, simple, easy!
This was a solid place to camp for a night! There aren’t bathrooms or other amenities (except a hose for water). Lighting is scarce, but stars are beautiful! No one met us or anything, we just drove up in the middle of the night, got ready for bed, slept, woke up and left without anyone bothering us. There is a small cafe in town, “Tin Cup Cafe,” but it wasn’t open when we went, unfortunately.
***IF YOU ARE DRIVING FROM I-10 IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT, WATCH FOR ANIMALS ON YOUR WAY IN!!! WE COUNTED 15 ANIMALS ON OR BESIDE THE ROAD! WATCH FOR ANIMALS BECAUSE THEY WON’T MOVE QUCK ENOUGH FOR YOU TO STOP GOING 75MPH.***
Well worth the $10.
