Enjoy stepping out of the bustle of urban life and into the peaceful and relaxing atmosphere of our 500 acre farm. The three-sided, Appalachian Trail-styled shelter is set in a wooded, private location at the base of Grindstone Mountain with a pastoral backdrop dotted with horses and cows. The perfect location for an intimate getaway or a group experience, the Mountain Shelter is complete with a large fire pit, stocked with wood, and of course, the iconic outhouse.

The space

This is a primitive camping shelter. It is great for an intimate camping trip or a larger group that wants to be together outside for the weekend. The space includes a sleeping platform like you might find on the Appalachian Trail which comfortably sleeps at least 6 (we've lined up 15 before!), as well as plenty of room and trees outside the shelter for tents and extra hammocks. A fire pit with cooking grate and a simple table and bench are provided for your outdoor cooking pleasure, and a tank of potable water and a simple outhouse complete the outdoor experience. Please note: We do not provide bedding for this adventure.

Guest access

Guests have access to our entire farm. Bring your mountain bikes for our trails. We welcome guests to join in with morning and evening chores. Chores include feeding animals, milking cows, collecting eggs and whatever else happens to need to be done.

Interaction with guests

We are a very open farm. We try to have a fire ready for your arrival, and invite you to take part in as much of our day as you'd like.

Other things to note

Come prepared for a primitive camping adventure!

–Guests will be able to drive their vehicles through a field within about 500' of the shelter. You must walk your gear the rest of the way along a wide trail.

–The outhouse is just that. We will, however, provide a bag with TP

–In keeping with all good camping etiquette, please pack out your trash! (We do have a dumpster available at the barns.)

–We welcome your dogs, but please clean up after them around the camping area and they must stay leashed around the barns.

–We offer a flexible check-in/out policy, but we do ask that you be in touch with your eta and etd so we can plan.

–For more information about our farm, including more pictures and special events that might be happening during your stay, you can look up Hidden Hills Farm & Saddle Club online.

Great time at the shelter! It's a cool little log thing...watch your head if you're tall. Beautiful land with horses and riders about.

perfect little spot, We had a wonderful time camping with friends. We arrived and a little pile of fire wood was provided. We had great weather and enjoyed our time at the site. Trees were perfect for a hammock. We will be back.

This place is great. Convenient for supplies and the grounds are pristine. We loved the shelter, the supply of firewood for the night and fresh water. Plenty of room for our group. Hosts were helpful getting us there.

We loved staying at the Mountain Getaway. It had everything we needed and was the best campsite we’ve been too. Being able to explore the working farm was so cool too!

Great out of the way shelter. Basic lean-to, but cozy, warm, and dry despite a rainy night. Very peaceful. Dog loved it too.

Overall, great place to stay, especially for large groups! Just be aware, the camping grate is rusted out and basically not usable, and you may have people riding on horseback really close to your camp sometimes. But other than that, I would absolutely recommend this place!

This was an awesome place to stay! We had a group of almost 30, half of them being children and everyone enjoyed it immensely. It’s close to town, in case you need to run to Walmart, but feels secluded. We got to venture to the farm and see all the animals!
Only issue we had was that the grate for the cooking stove was not in good enough condition to cook with. Thankfully we had experienced campers who helped build a wooden tripod for the Dutch oven. We did have issues with getting more wood on the second afternoon we were there, but fortunately we were able to go and find enough dead trees that we found our own wood. Otherwise, we still really enjoyed ourselves!

My boyfriend and I are traveling across the state of Tennessee for our second anniversary, and this was our first stop!

The shelter is perfect for keeping the weather off, and there is a mattress available if you want to bring your own linens. We slept in hammocks, though, and the night air was wonderful! The outhouse was clean and away from camp but still a short distance, and Mike and Tara had firestarter and hot teas and cocoa packs waiting for us when we got there! It was such a nice greeting gift.

The area is nicely secluded, but our only two complaints were having trouble finding where our site was located (we couldn’t get in touch with anyone when we arrived), and a few times we had people drive up or wander onto our site. But it was still a lovely campsite and nice and private.

This is now one of our favorite spots to camp! The privacy was much needed. Mike and Tara brought us fresh water to drink and wash dishes with, plenty of firewood, and a box full of useful items (aka toilet paper). We didn’t put our tents inside the shelter but there was definitely room to do so. I cant wait to come back and camp here again! (Only thing, beware of ants. There were tons at certain spots, but as long as there is no food in your tent they wont bother you!)

Plenty of trees for hammocksLots of roomPlaces for tents all over the site(For and experienced driver) Fairly simple access for vehicles
