Creature comforts
Enjoy the comforts of home in nature — including real toilets, showers, and kitchen.

The Nest lets you embrace the Scottish countryside in luxury, providing enviable views across Loch Lomond from its camping pod – though “pod” is something of an understatement when it comes to this high-end retreat. With Garabhan Forest ahead of you, direct access to the iconic West Highland Way long-distance route from the site, and accommodation that’s the very definition of glamping, this is the ideal spot for those who want somewhere exceptionally relaxing to unwind after a long day exploring.

The Nest’s location would be a huge selling point in and of itself without the modern apartment-esque pod attached to it. But, when paired with its unique dwellings, it becomes a real must-visit. From the outside, The Nest sits atop a hill in a private corner of five acres of land, with a veranda where you can enjoy a glass of wine or two while watching the sunset over the Loch. Inside, you’ll be treated to robust amenities in a glamorous space, from the fully-equipped kitchen and bathroom to Bluetooth surround-sound speakers and a smart TV. You’ll find out why host Emma decided to name it The Nest when you climb into your bed for the evening, tucked away on the mezzanine to provide a real cocoon of comfort.

After dropping your bags, you’ll be spoiled for choice when it comes to what to do first. There’s a reason why adventurers regularly descend upon this area, with everyone from mountain bikers to swimmers kept sufficiently entertained. Take a canoe out onto Loch Lomond or take a dip in the water, while a trip up Conic Hill is an obvious choice for ramblers, a summit rising above Balmaha with views stretching out over the Loch and its islands. Then round off your day with a tipple in The Clachan Inn, Scotland’s oldest licensed pub and just a short walk from the site.

Stay in The Nest! 5 minutes from the West Highland Way, sitting at the top of a 5 acre field with amazing views of Loch Lomond and surrounding countryside. The Nest sleeps 4, has a covered outdoor patio, Smart tv and Bluetooth surround sound. Full kitchen. Walking distance to Conic Hill, 20 min drive to Ben Lomond.

The Nest
Glorious weekend away for my partner's 30th. Surround sound speakers were a hit. Lovely view when the weather cleared. Felt very private and perfect location for a bit of hiking, and pub in Drymen without having to drive too much. The nest is beautifully decked out, with everything thought about to make it feel very decadent. Would definitely recommend.

Nearby attractions

Glengoyne Distillery is a 20-minute drive from The Nest. Its Distillery Ambassadors provide guests with a tour that concludes with a tasting session in its Burnfoot Lodge, overlooking the nearby waterfall and glen. If you haven’t quite got your fill of adventuring from the hundreds of miles of forest walks accessible from The Nest’s doorstep, then Go Ape! in Aberfoyle is a 25-minute drive away. Its Treetop Challenge provides a 323-metre zipline for thrillseekers. The Devil’s Pulpit is less than 20 minutes away, so called because of the seemingly blood-red waters running through it – fortunately, this is just the red sandstone beneath! You may recognise this beautiful-but-eerie spot from its appearance in the TV series Outlander – it’s worth a visit, though, whether you're a fan of the show or not.

Food and drink

The Clachan Inn, Scotland's oldest pub, is just over 20 minutes' walk from The Nest. Most of its food is locally sourced and you’ll find some authentic Scottish whiskies, gin, and beers, along with a well-stocked wine list. The Oak Tree Inn is located along the West Highland Way in Balmaha and has twice been named Scotland’s best pub. Expect some delicious traditional Scottish cooking here, on top of deviations from that concept such as pizzas and burgers. Next to this pub, you’ll find St. Mocha Coffee Shop and Ice Cream Parlour, which provides both homemade ice cream and coffee roasted on-site.
