Before the Kerr Scott Reservoir was built, in the 40's and 50's, this neighborhood was a local swimming hole and vacation area. Public buses came from neighboring communities so people could boat, swim, camp, and picnic. While we don't have access to the pond, our part of this land still is calling out to people, 'Come, rest, unload your burdens, and find peace.' When we started this project with Hipcamp, we didn't fully realize that we were reconnecting with the history on this property. So, come, take your shoes off, and wade in the creek. Read a book while laying in a hammock. Sit by the fire and chat with family and friends. Come and participate in our little homesteading project, and leave your burdens behind. LOCAL ACTIVITIES: To the west is the Blue Ridge Parkway, which is 30 minutes away. 15 minutes away is Kerr Scott Dam where you can rent kayaks, pontoon boats, as well as other sporting equipment. Fish, go mountain biking on the extensive trails, and hiking. Prayer Mountain is right up the road, about 2 miles away. Heading east, you can find several fine wineries andvineyards that you can visit. There is also a moonshine distillery in town. About a half hour away is an Amish community that has several businesses open to the public, including the Shiloh Bakery and General Store. They are closed on Sunday and Monday. To the northeast, about 45 minutes away, is Stone Mountain. Absolutely fantastic hiking, it is also an old homestead that has been renovated and is open to the public. To the south, there is Rocky Face Park, where there is hiking and rock climbing. Nearby, is Emerald Hollow Mine, where you can go and find, and keep, precious stones you find in the nearby river. There is also a great disk course course, Highland Hills Disc Golf Course, one of the top 25 in the country. There is fun for all ages. Merlefest, the last weekend of April, is a world class Bluegrass festival, is located right in our town. Be sure to look at the activities section below for additional information.

Babbling Brook Treehouse

Had such a lovely stay in the Treehouse at Babling Brook! Elizabeth was super helpful with clear directions from getting there, to navigating all the features on the land. They just added an extension to the porch, all fenced in, which my pups loved. The treehouse had both a rustic feel, while having many amenities. I wish I’d had more time there.

Happy Hillside Tent & Hammock Camp

Superb Camping Experience

Our family of three recently stayed at this wonderful campsite nestled amidst breathtaking forest and farm views. The abundance of amenities, including cook and eating ware, plenty of seating, and well-maintained structures made for a comfortable and enjoyable experience. What truly stood out was the thoughtful host, Elizabeth, who ensured every need was met with warmth and care. She kindly guided our five year old son, Zach, through some farm chores so that he was able to find fresh eggs and feed a baby goat with a bottle. Elizabeth also shared her sweet, very well-behaved dog, Seth, with us during our time there. Zach and Seth became fast friends. We highly recommend this campsite (and the farm experience) for anyone seeking a peaceful retreat in nature with all the comforts of home.

Babbling Brook Treehouse

I loved having two nights of needed alone time in Elizabeth’s cabin. The creek sounds were soothing, and the bed was soft and comfortable. There was plenty of light sources and I didn’t need any of my flashlights or lanterns I brought. The kitchen was well appointed with all of the necessary cooking equipment, and there was a grill on the fire ring I made use of. I plan on coming back as soon as possible.

Bird's Nest Over Peaceful Pastures

Beautiful place owned and tan by beautiful people. i loved the birds nest and wish i could’ve stayed longer. i traveled by plane and they had everything i could possibly need. definitely will be back to hang out with the animals next time! and you’ve got to follow the creek to the waterfall it’s so cute!! thank you so much for having me <3

Cozy Cottage Farm Stay

Cozy and wonderful

The cozy cottage is true to its name. Mark and Elizabeth are dedicated hosts who put their heart into their cabin sites by the stream and the cottage. The cottage is near the animals and the main house, and they will help you feel like a welcome guest on the farm. In addition to toaster oven, microwave, mini crockpot, running water, outdoor private compost bucket toilet, and wifi, cottage guests also have access to the common area by the stream. The quarter mile winding road up to the farm is also great for a quick run.
