Sara is a wonderful host! Her love for the animals and genuine joy to host was impossible to miss. She was welcoming and very respectful of space. It was a joy meeting her 4 legged family members and staying on the farm! I highly recommend staying with them!

We loved camping at Breakaway Stables! It was quiet, peaceful, and beautiful. Although there was another camper on the opposite end of the property, we still had plenty of space and privacy. A definite upgrade from public campgrounds with the unique experience of camping near horses. Sara was a friendly and knowledgeable host.

Convenient and Relaxing
Convenience to the smaller towns in the area, lots of wildlife sounds like owls, numerous birds, coyotes and even the horses. Directions were easy to understand and Sarah was a great host greeted us when we got there and even helped me get some potable water.

Gorgeous spot, a hidden gem
Really cool spot, lovely and serene. Sara, the host, is honestly way too nice. The dogs were sweet. It was a really gorgeous backdrop for a weekend camping trip. I would recommend it to anyone.

We enjoyed our stay, perfect weekend getaway from the city! It was a huge plus the site had a picnic table, fire pit, and a very clean compost outhouse. We were also able to purchase some farm fresh eggs.

Ideal Getaway
Sara’s place was an unexpected surprise despite all of the other reviews. I was traveling last minute through the area and needing a camping spot as all the local state parks on my route were full.
This was my first Hipcamp booking and I felt like I’d hit a jackpot. Directions to the place were clear. On arrival I was met by Sara and her dogs. She directed me down the rolling grassy slope to the site just outside of the horse enclosures. The view past the enclosures was nothing short of enchanting.
A fire pit (which I didn’t take advantage of), table and the cutest outhouse were all nestled along the edge of the lawn. I was invited to walk to the horses if I chose and was left to set up my tent and get settled.
The table sufficed for making my dinner though the spot was a bit muddy from heavy rain earlier in the day.
The outhouse is outfitted with a composting toilet which uses cedar chips. I was amazed there was no foul smell, which I’m used to having done a lot of back country camping. It even had a light for the nighttime visits.
I found a spot which had only a slight slope for my tent. Most of the site is sloping which is a consideration if you have a trailer.
I found the place so peaceful I got an incredible night sleep. As a solo female traveler I felt safe, which is something that isn’t always the case.
While I’m not sure if I’ll be back in the area again soon, I know I’d return again. I highly recommend checking this location out!

This spot is great! Peaceful views were taken in of the surrounding countryside and horses nearby were lovely. As other campers have mentioned, you are in the hosts “backyard” but it feels secluded enough. The fire pit and outhouse awesome, as was the area to explore!

Everything was wonderful. Sara was very friendly and even helped me jump start my car after I left a light on and couldnt start it. The campsite was very nice and the view of the beautiful, friendly horses was a huge plus. I highly recommend.

Sara was wonderful! She was easily reachable when we had trouble finding the site, and also very friendly. The site itself was gorgeous, with adorable dogs eager to play. There is a lovely fire pit and a clean, compostable toilet.

Charming Stable Getaway
Sara & Julie were incredibly welcoming hosts. Great communication, friendly & easy-going. We loved our stay at Breakaway Stables. This spot is perfect for 1-3 tents. There are a few trees for hammocks, but they are tucked back into the tree line (2, maybe 3 hammocks max). This is an active farm, so you camp right next to several friendly horses. Touch base with the host to see if you need to bring extra firewood if you plan to stay up late by the fire. The compost outhouse was very well maintained with a motion activated light at night. The cedar chips made for zero odor. There is a land reserve on the other side of the tree line, holding a field full of wildflowers in the summer. Stunning! Excited to see what else Sara and Julie create in the future!

Classy Country+Downhome Hospitality
This is a beautiful and safe place hosted by a lovely family. We booked at the last minute while passing through the area, preferring to be off the highway aways and to be with horses! The place has epic views, nestled deep in farm country. Sara was very gracious and accommodating of our needs with some adverse weather overnight. I highly recommend this site and will happily return!

Beautiful spot. Nothing like a single camp spot that also feels completely safe. Kiddos got to pet the horses.. they were totally smitten with this camp site. Sara was super sweet and kind.

Idyllic setting with warm, friendly
What a delightful stay with delightful hosts. The natural beauty of Wisconsin’s driftless area is the backdrop to Sara and Julie’s horse stables. Loved touring the grounds and meeting everyone, humans and animals. We are eager to return with friends so they can experience the magic too! The composting toilet and large fire pit were both much appreciated.

Delightful quite campsite
Charming campsite and wonderful hosts. The view of horses and rolling farmland from the ridge was wonderful. The deluxe campfire pit made it easy to cook and the host provided firewood!

Wonderful father/daughter getaway

Beautiful Wisconsin farmland site
Sara’s site was wonderful and Sara was warm and welcoming. The spot is about 40yds off of the house towards the horse pens. It is nice and grassy, with a fire pit and an outhouse that is cleaner and smells better than many indoor bathrooms I’ve used. There was a medium-sized table for use at the site, and our fire grate fit inside of the fire pit for cooking. The views are wonderful—it looks out onto rolling hills of pasture and woods, and at night you can see the Milky Way. Don’t pass up the opportunity to walk through the wooded area of the property.
This was my first time using Hip Camp, and I was initially motivated by wanting a more socially-distanced camping experience than at a state park with shared facilities. I found Sara’s site far more pleasant than a campground, even with the neighbor’s tractor running nearby the first evening, and after such a positive experience will definitely be trying Hip Camp again. Maybe even coming back to Sara’s place again next year!

Loved it Sara was a great host, after the meet and great didn’t see them once after. Very private and they have nice trails we took our dogs on. Thought the site was a little close to the house but we enjoyed being by the horses, if we were to go again we’d probably end up camping on the trail.

Silence in Southwest Wisconsin
Sara's place is simply amazing and she was a very gracious host. Went for an hour hike in the woods next to the campsite. Pet a few horses and a pony. Relaxed with a beer and watched the hawks fly over the valley behind her property as the leaves were turning. Just prefect. Oh, and the outhouse is clean and pretty cool with the wood chips (yes, the outhouse).
