Luxury family-sized glamping pods with en-suite facilities and hot tubs, with wonderful views across the Wye Valley

Great House Farm offers equal parts luxury and heritage. The site is run by the Jones family who have been farming at Great House for more than 50 years but the working hill farm itself dates back to the 1600’s when it was owned by Oxford University. As of this year, they've decided to open up their home to guests, creating a stunning glamping site with three luxury glamping pods and a refurbished self-catering farmhouse, ensuring that the exciting history of the site is forever evolving.

The pods themselves are a thoroughly modern and comfortable affair. Inside, they have all the kit you need – en-suite shower rooms, proper beds, cooking facilities and modern perks, like WiFi and a smart TV. Two of the pods sleep four (with a sofa bed that's great for little'uns), while the largest pod, Wye (each pod is named after a local river) has an additional quirky bunk bed too, with each bunk secreted away in a little cubby hole. Outside, every pod has a private patio with a custom-built firepit that's great for al fresco cooking and a hot tub with jets and LED lighting. And it's all ideally placed for soaking up the farm's far-reaching views. Around 300 metres up the slopes of the Aberedw Hills, overlooking the village of Erwood, Great House Farm looks out across the Wye Valley towards distant Hay Bluff and Pen Y Fan in the Brecon Beacons.

For most visitors, the view is a constant reminder of why you're here. The River Wye offers opportunities for fishing and canoeing, while the distant hills offer endless walking opportunities. Even closer to home it's just a mile to the Wye Valley Way or you can walk from the farm up Twyn y Garth to see the old World War One memorial on the top. Ironically, it's when night falls and your settled in your cosy pod that one of the real highlights of this place comes out to shine. Between the Elan Valley and the Brecon Beacons National Park, the farm is in one of the few true dark-sky areas in the UK and the night sky is dazzling. Peep from the port-hole window beside your bed or sit out in the hot tub and turn off the lights, it's a pleasure to enjoy.

Wye - Luxury timber pod with hot tub
Relaxed, escape to the country
This place was truly beautiful, excellent views from the pod. Lots of space for everyone so you can have relaxing time apart or together. Nice space to get some cooking/food prep done in with a lovely little breakfast bar. Great outdoor patio area to lounge in plenty of space for everyone to relax. Really clean, well layed out rules and helpful owner. The hill up is a bit bendy but that's to be expected when holidaying in a hilly/mountainous area. Definitely would recommend this to anyone looking for a amazingly priced getaway.

Chwefru - luxury timber pod with hot tub
Lovely stay in a beautiful location
We had a great stay at Great House Farm in their Chwefru camping pod. The pod was fully kitted out and the location is stunning. The hosts were welcoming and friendly and, whilst we didn't have need for any extras or other requests, options were there for us to take advantage of.

Chwefru - luxury timber pod with hot tub
Lovely weekend
Stayed here for the weekend in a pod and did not disappoint. Pod was well equipped with everything that we needed for the stay, hot tub and outside area was lovely. Even though it’s on a farm it was still really quiet and peaceful. Would defiantly come back. Staff on site were lovely and helpful on arrival. Everything was easy from start to finish.

Chwefru - luxury timber pod with hot tub
Best place
It was the best place, very clean, hosts very open to anything, they allowed children to see all the animals, to feed the animals and to play around the farm. Very clean pod, very well maintained. All you need you can find inside the pod starting from cutlery and crockeries, extra pillows, towels and blankets. In one word, it is perfect for families and children.

Welcome to Great House Farm Luxury Pods and Self Catering, a Glamping site offering 3 luxury Glamping Pods and a self catering farmhouse in the heart of Mid Wales. A hillside retreat nestled in the rolling hills above the village of Erwood in the heart of Mid Wales run by the Jones family, who have been farming at Great House Farm for more than 50 years and who have diversified this year to establish a stunning glamping site and refurbished self catering farmhouse for our guests to enjoy. Great House Farm Luxury Pods and Self Catering is a place to get away from it all, unwind and relax far away from the stresses and strains of modern life. Our site is on a working beef and sheep hill farm dating back to the 1600's when it was part of land owned by Oxford University.  Originally named Llandeilo Hall, it is thought that the farm was once quite a grand settlement for its time. The site is simply stunning, situated 272 metres high in the Aberedw Hills of Radnorshire, with views across the valley to Breconshire. Treat yourself to a relaxing and luxurious break and spend the evening unwinding in your private hot tub and roasting marshmallows or having a BBQ on your large cast iron custom built fire pit. Our pods have been creatively designed to ensure your stay is truly unforgettable. From the moment you arrive you will be surrounded by luxury in one of our 3 uniquely styled pods. Two of our pods can sleep up to 4 people and the other one up to 6 people. They are named after local rivers - the Wye, Chwefru and Irfon. The timber pods are well equipped for outdoor living. Relax on your own private patio whilst gazing at the amazing views over towards Pen Y Fan (the highest mountain in South Wales) and Hay bluff. Everything you need is provided including bedding, towels and kitchen equipment. All our pods are fitted with a small, fully equipped kitchen. The pods can accommodate up to 4 or 6 people and have a double bed, 2 single bunk beds (in the 6 person pod) and a comfy sofa bed. The integrated shower room is equipped with a walk in shower, hand basin and toilet. Each pod has wifi, a smart TV and charging points. The pods are fully insulated and have central heating for those chilly winter nights.
Nearby attractions

There's plenty of good walking on the doorstep. Try the footpath to the top of Twyn y Garth, where a First World War German Howitzer (a large field gun now rusted away in parts) was dragged by men and horses and positioned adjacent to the Old British Camp in 1920 as a memorial (and restored in 2000). Besides the interesting history of the walk, the views from the top of Twyn Y Garth are simply stunning, with views for miles down the Wye Valley. Llandeilo Hill also offers great local vistas. To reach the hill, turn left out of the site and walk to Llandeilo Graban Church. At the crossroads turn left and follow the road for about half a mile (past Pentrecaeau) and you will then be on the bottom of Llandeilo Hill. A little further afield (but worth every extra mile) is the Brecon Beacons National Park, (around a 35-minute drive) for more well known walks and mountain biking trails. For a local quirk, head down the hill to the Erwood Station Gallery (01982 560 674), a modern art gallery on the site of a former railway station, displaying works by local artists alongside old train carts and features.

Food and drink

The closest pub is the Wheelwright Arms (01982 560740), a five-minute drive away in Erwood, serving generous portions of British favourites, including a banoffee roulade that's to die for. The Seven Stars Inn (01982 560762) is around 10 minutes drive away in Aberedw and has a pleasant beer garden and an extensive wine list. The Griffin Inn (01874 754542) is also 10 minutes away, their menu includes freshly made pizzas and American favourites, like jalapeno poppers and crispy hot wings, that can be enjoyed in the friendly pub (while taking part on the quiz night, depending on the day you visit) or ordered as a takeaway to enjoy back at Great House Farm.
