4m Bell Tent 'Buzzard' with stove
Bell tent · Sleeps 3Our bell tents are in the top mountain meadow with acres of space and beautiful views. There is about 50m between each pitch. Our 'Buzzard' bell is named after the bird you'll enjoy watching soaring about above you during your stay - and the bell tent, just like its namesake, occupies the highest point on the farm, catching the last of the sun's rays as it sets directly west over the summit of the mountain opposite.
Although entirely off-grid, this homely abode is kitted out with comfort in mind. Buzzard has a double futon style bed with linen provided (fitted sheet, 15 tog duvet, two pillows), an additional inflatable mattress (bedding not provided), cushions, rugs, and a blanket to keep you cosy on cooler nights. Not that you'll need it, of course, as the stove will keep you toasty warm and a box of wood, firelighter and matches will be waiting for you on your arrival :) An inflatable mattress, pump, LED hurricane lantern, and a simple steel wheel fire pit (remember to bring a griddle if you want to cook on it) is also provided. We sell extra boxes of wood, kindling and firelighters for £10 cash :)
In the same wildflower meadow and just a short stroll across the grass, you'll find our little sheltered 'Observation Station' for pulling up a chair and watching the wildlife, and the 'Lovely Looease' compost toilet.
We ask all guests to park at the entrance to the campsite. There are wheelbarrows available for you to move your kit up to the tents, and if the 4x4 is home then we will certainly help you :)
Check in is between 2pm and dusk and check out is 10am.
Check out Pridie's event page to find out what's on at the campsite this year - www.thewildofthewords.co.ukevents2024
Important info:
Fire bundles are available at £10 a bag and include kindling, logs and firelighters. Cooking and flame lanterns are not allowed in the bell tents due to the fire risk, but feel free to pop your stove on the firebricks under the fire bowl outside.
We kindly ask all guests to take their rubbish home with them to recycle.
There are three composting loos in the meadow - 'Timmy Ty-bach', 'Wonky Bob' and the 'Lovely Looeaze', as well as a flushing toilet (as yet nameless) with hot shower and a washing up area just a short walk away in 'The Byre', in the farmyard. In here, you'll also find a kettle, mobile charging point and a freezer in which you are welcome to store ice packs. The water is drinkable in the washroom and by The Byre you'll also find a drinking water tap and hose for bigger jerry cans.
The Brecon Beacons are a Dark Sky Reserve so a clear starry sky is really something special. The campsite is not lit at night and we advise you to bring torches and take care when it is dark.
Barbecues must be at least 12 inches off the ground (feel free to move the fire bowl temporarily and place your stoves / BBQs onto the fire bricks).
Please feel free to bring portable toilets as we have a chemical toilet disposal point, but please only use green eco fluid or no fluid at all (strictly not blue fluid.)
Pitches are available from 2pm on the day of arrival and up to 12 noon on the day of departure. Please ask if you would like to arrive earlier or stay longer on your day of departure. This is not normally an issue outside of peak times.
Please keep dogs on leads and clean up after them.
Please keep noise to a sensible level, particularly after 8pm.
We welcome acoustic music around the campfire, but no stereos, amps or car radios please.
We ask for no loud noise after 11pm. Loud talking/laughing into the late hours can drive your neighbours bonkers. Please be aware of others that may be trying to sleep.
No disposable BBQs on the grass.
