Idyllic farm campsite with campfires in south Pembrokeshire, 10 minutes' drive from several top beaches

“Easy to get to but difficult to leave”, that’s how owner Charles describe Park Farm Camping. And, when you see the site, as well as the endless list of local options to explore, you’ll understand the struggle. The National Trust beaches, the cosy pubs, the nearby Stackpole Estate… It’s easy to see why he’s so passionate about Pembrokeshire and, with a local like him giving you tips, you won’t spend long deciding what to do each day.

As well as the area, the site itself is a quaint and friendly place. Charles and family are accommodating to guests’ different requirements and go out of their way to make sure your stay lives up to expectations. There are pitches for families with children and a field just for adults, all surrounding a quaint thatched cottage with stable doors and whitewashed walls. Whatever your plans, there’ll be a place where your kids are free to laugh and play or a quiet spot for those looking to chill out. It’s only in the peak of summer that suiting everyone becomes a bit more difficult but, with a maximum of around 50 pitches, the place is never too busy.

To match the classic farm setting you'll get a classic camping experience. Well-behaved dogs are welcome, campfires are permitted and lighting in the area is minimal, so you can enjoy the clear night skies that only somewhere this rural affords. You can also use the time round the campfire to decide how to best spend the next day. There’s a lot to choose from. Firstly, which beach? National Trust-owned Freshwater West (great for surfing), smaller Broad Haven (backed by the beautiful Bosherton Lily Ponds), sheltered Brafundle Bay (only accessible on foot) or popular Freshwater East, all within a 10-minute drive of Parke Farm. That’s not to mention the six different castles in the vicinity or the simple pleasures of walking the coastal path. Either way, however you decide to spend your stay, don’t worry about how difficult it is to leave. After all, it’s just as easy to come back and pick up where you left off.

Parke Farm’s idyllic location in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park does justice to one of the prettiest traditional cottages in the County. The farmhouse has been stunningly and sympathetically restored with the surrounding fields offering a perfect camping location. Internationally renowned Broadhaven and Barafundle beaches are ‘just down the road’ Both are accessed via National Trust car parks 4 miles away. Why not meander over to Bosherston village? The Lily pond walk leads directly to the sand dunes at Broadhaven Parke Farm is ideally situated to explore part or all of the 180 miles of Pembrokeshire’s coastal path. There’s a multitude of award-winning, Blue Flag beaches in our corner of Pembrokeshire. Freshwater West, Freshwater East, and the picturesque village and beaches of Angle are only a few miles away. Count the steps down to St Govan's Chapel. The tiny stone building has a stunning setting among the limestone cliffs. Local folklore suggests the steps are never the same number on the way back up. Norman influences on the County are evident with castles at Manorbier, Carew, and spectacular Pembroke |Castle, the birthplace of Henry Tudor. There’s so much to see and do in South Pembrokeshire. Open and natural space, which felt safe as the kids ran around. Facilities were all good as described. Some areas/facilities looked perhaps old/tired, but overall generally clean tidy with warm, friendly staff/owners.

Such a lovely campsite! Great facilities with thoughtful extra touches like the free tea and coffee in the morning and marshmallows on skewers handed out in the evening. Pitches are spacious and semi private with long grass left to grow in between pitches. We also had our own tap! Close to lots of beaches and castles.

Just ideal, we came for the location as we love that part of Pembrokeshire but to find such a terrific campsite was a real cherry on top. Accomodating and friendly family, feel like they really care about your experience and they want to help you to enjoy your stay with them. I love the freshly mown pitches and there is good space between the pitches too. The facilities are clean, modern and well maintained. Having somewhere to wash up makes things so much easier and then free tea and coffee in the morning as well😃 just lots of things that they have carefully thought about and considered to make your stay lovely. The shop is a nice touch too and helps a lot, I suspect for those hiking in along the coastal path that is a lifesaver. The site itself has a good amount of hedges with shelter too (always important with my slightly wind sensitive tent). Close to Elegug stacks and the green arch as well as Bosherton, stackpole and the lily ponds. Plus surrounded by loads of brilliant beaches too. Great stay, we will be back

Wow! Charles’s campsite at Parke Farm is the best we’ve stayed at so far! The whole family are very welcoming and easy to talk to. Charles gave us some great tips for where to visit and where to eat. Our two Border collies were able to run and play onsite which was a total bonus. The pitches are well laid out and very generous in size. The grass is left to grow long between each pitch, which gives the feeling of privacy. The facilities were well maintained and spotlessly clean. There is tea and coffee available in the mornings and the park has free WIFI. It is only a 5-10 minute drive to some of the most beautiful beaches in Wales, or the coast path is only a couple of miles walk away. We will definitely be booking here again! Our first time camping here, and it was amazing! Really nice and friendly hosts, 3 big sections of camping pitches and each pitch is big enough to fit a car/camper and an 8 man tent. Toilets and showers are above expectation, always maintained and clean, fridge freezer available for use too, as well as 2 sinks to wash up in. Plenty of drinking water stations around too. Shop on site for little things that you might need extra of, or maybe forgot (like us!) We thought we were going to arrive late, and the host was quick at responding to our query, very helpful.

Parke farm is a charming, private and individual campsite. Charles is a font of knowledge supplying us with a personalised itinerary for us to do on a daily basis! We had asked for ideas, he gently shared his knowledge with us. We saw areas we would never have found without his suggestions. Very central for exploring Pembrokeshire.The camp site was rustic, barriers between vehicles/tents were formed out of wild grass, they were large pitches. There was also a social area if you wanted one. The showers were hot and loos were clean, what more could you wish for? We would highly recommend!

Wonderful campsite With everything and more! So impressive Calm relaxed beautiful and everything provided which saves a lot of drama stress and worries when you’re there. As long as you can wake up And have coffee plus toilets showers and sunshine then what more do you need! Amazing!

Excellnt place to camp, the pitches were well laid out and the toilet and shower blocks were really clean. Really friendly and even helped put up the tent as we were late getting there me and my son. Coffee and tea was supplied every morning whuch was great. Charles's directions were spot on as well found it straight away. Would highly recomend 5☆, will be back again 100%. Thank you Paul & Benji

We had a lovely two night stay at Parke Farm. The pitches were spacious and well kept and we liked the long grass between them to give a sense of privacy. It wasn't very busy so we were able to pick our pitch. It was a quiet site but family friendly. All the facilities were clean and there were flushing toilets, hot showers, washing up facilities, a fridge/freezer and even free tea and coffee in the morning. The little onsite shop is a bit pricey but does have anything you would likely need if you'd forgotten to pack it. Check in was easy and everyone on site was friendly and helpful. The location was brill and about ten minutes drive from Barafundle and Broad Haven. We would happily stay again.

We had a wonderful bank holiday stay. The campsite is in a great location, is clean and quiet even when fully booked. The owner was charming and we used the campsite as our base to cycle to the beautiful beaches near by. Great food at nearby Stackpole Inn. Highly recommend a stay - we'll be back.

Lovely site. We went mid week for a few nights, had a lovely pitch, fire pit waiting for us and great sunsets. A real bonus is a communal Fridge - perfect for us in a small camper and the free make your own tea and coffee - what a kind and wonderful idea. Great location too.

This was a great campsite! Lovely big pitches separated by long grass with electric and water right on pitch. Owners were lovely and really helpful when I had an issue with my trailer tent. The only thing worth noting would be that if you have a sound sensitive dog the castlemartin firing range is very close and was loud on a couple of days, but it did but take away from our experience!

Lovely Campsite in a great area, only 5/10 minute drive from the main beaches. Campsite very nice, with top showers and wash station, tea and coffee on tap in the morning and brought round marshmallows in the evening. Very friendly staff and couldnt do more for you.

The campsite was wonderful. Large pitches not too close together. Long grass in between. Great flushing loos that were kept clean and some lovely showers in a shepherd’s hut. Charlie’s wife left us hot water and tea and coffee in the area with some table and chairs and internet (2 hours a day). His very sweet daughter and a friend brought round some free marshmallows on sticks! Loved it.

Thanks very much to Charles and Parke Farm camping this week - excellent facilities! All was great, we had a relaxing time and really enjoyed the wonderful nearby walks and coast. Lots of camping space in four fields, mixture of electric and non electric pitches, loads of other space for kids to play, with fun firepits in the evening! Beautiful nightime sky!

Lovely site with plenty of space and large pitch. Grass left to grow between pitches segregating them easily. Lovely hot clean showers. Social area. Lived it. Only down side was I thought it was closer to coast path.

We absolutely loved camping at Parke Farm in our Van, it was so beautiful and peaceful. Good facilities and close to some beautiful beaches. We still have so much to explore and will definitely be heading back there in years to come. I would definitely recommend to a friend (and we have already!). Thank you for having us!

Nearby attractions

No doubt, if you’re camping here, you’ve come for the coast. It’s less than four miles to Broadhaven South beach, popular for swimming and with families, kite-surfers, anglers and canoeists, while Barafundle Bay is four miles away and it’s five miles to Freshwater West, a long, National Trust-owned beach that’s hugely popular with surfers. Bluestone national park resort (01834862400) offers a selection of shops, restaurants, a pub, high rope forest activities and a waterpark. Other nearby adventure options include Oakwood theme park, Folly Farm (01834812731), Heatherton World of Activities, Battlefield Live laser combat (07777671301) and Tenby Dinosaur Park (01834845272).

Castlemartin Range MOD has a free spectators car park just outside the village of Warren, It’s suitable for all of the family.

Please check the firing times as some parts of the coastal path are closed during these times. Normally they do not fire on bank holidays, school holidays, or at weekends, however, if you are visiting us outside of these times you can check the firing times online https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/castlemartin-firing-notice--2/castlemartin-firing-notice-september-2021

Food and drink

The busy St. Govan’s Country Inn (01646661311), with exposed beams, horse brasses and a large stone fireplace, and the multi-award-winning Stackpole Inn (01646672324) are both within three miles of the campsite. The Stackpole recently won the National Pub & Bar Awards and welcomes dogs in the bar area, with a pleasant beer garden on sunny days. Lamphey Hall Hotel (01646672394), just over 10 minutes away in the car, is great if you’re celebrating a special occasion or for couples looking to enjoy a meal to remember. A 10-minute drive from the site you’ll also find The Boathouse Tea-room, perfect for local hearty meals while you enjoy beautiful sea views of Stackpole Quay.
