Unassuming little site tucked away in one of the least visited corners of Pembrokeshire

You’ll likely be greeted by sheepdogs Beau and Luke and/or a clutch of rescue chickens as you drive into North Lodge, an unassuming little campsite in the grounds of the former Pant-y-Deri Estate and the shadow of the Preseli Hills. It consists of a selection of unmarked but secluded pitches set between rhododendron bushes and high hedges. Site owners Jane and Martin Callaby make sustainability and recycling a central tenet of the North Lodge experience and are heavily involved in a wide variety of eco-schemes. That said, there’s never a holier-than-thou attitude to camping here – the welcome is warm and friendly and above all there’s a genuine laid back feeling to the site.

What’s especially nice is that this is a part of Pembrokeshire that the guide books and tourist brochures generally overlook in favour of the more high profile coastline (one of the most spectacular sections of which is still only a short drive away). You’ll find it hard to resist the temptation to walk in the blue-shadowed Preseli Hills in the near distance, from the summits of which, on a clear day, you can see most of West Wales and even Ireland’s Wicklow Hills on the other side of the Irish Sea.

2 - Damson Cabin

Booked 13 times
Cabin · Sleeps 4
The cabin sleeps up to 4.  It has its own woodburner, a double bed and daybed that extends for a double/two singles, great views across the countryside and the Preseli Mountains. Following on from the success of Preseli Cabin, the damson cabin idea started with the great winds of 2013/14 when one of the only remaining trees in the orchard a damson tree was felled by the wind, why not put a cabin in its place? Since its erection in early February 2014, this ex display rather tired leaky cabin has been lovingly restored and weatherproofed, using local or sustainable products and furniture, including a beautiful vintage bed. Decorated with colours reflecting calm and relaxation, out of the two cabins it has been described by visitors as the more romantic haven. But it also lends itself to groups with the non campers staying in the cabin whilst their camping friends pitch up in the orchard or camping field. The cabin has a firepit and its own kitchen shed for food preparation and cooking undercover, BBQ area, new loo, and own electric shower.

Horse Lorry-Rumenco

Booked 15 times
Quirky · Sleeps 2
If you want unique/quirky its our horse lorry conversion, named after a horse 'Rumenco'. This self-contained unit, which sleeps two, is secluded and private from the main camping field and accessed via an ancient bluebell wooded lane. The old horsebox retains many original features but has been made comfortable for campers with a double bed and carpets in the rear part of the cab along with a double glazed window and its own  raised "tail gate" deck over looking the lower organic veg garden, wild meadows, grassland fields of sheep and cows and the historic Preseli hills the origin of the bluestones at Stonehenge.  (which to the west meet the sea, so plenty of beaches within easy reach) The driver's cab, has been refurbished, and features its own WC and a kitchenette area with a two-ring gas hob and sink. A wood burner, solar lighting and tea lights help to create ambiance and, along with the remaining original features, help recall its past equestrian use and give it a gypsy or canal boat feel. It offers a magical escape for the would-be equestrian, or a romantic break set in a private wildlife area. Additional facilities include: A porch area for storage, footwear/wet coats Access from the woodland bark path, to the covered stairs (no need to clamber in to the cab!) A fire pit and outdoor seating area, for summer or winter evenings around the fire  over looking the Preseli's and big clear night skies. Kitchen utensils, pots/pans other items, and first lot of logs, tea lights included.  PLEASE note that we will only be providing undersheets, you will need to bring your own duvet and pillows, thank you.  A very unique (stable) electric hot water shower for use for Rumenco only, with the campsite having its own seasonal facilities

1 - Preseli Cabin

Booked 17 times
Cabin · Sleeps 5
Over the years this unique cabin, once a drumming studio, has been refurbished, with new cladding, lots of work, including a large new porch area to sit and look at the views, or cook undercover.  Always looking to improve our much loved cabin, the sleeping area clad with old doors now has a 4 poster kingsize bed. The log cabin is relatively large, it is very well insulated so warm in winter and cool in summer, it has been re clad with local timber and the recycled furniture is high quality and comfortable (apart from new high grade mattresses). There’s a three piece cottage suite to sit and relax being warmed by the log fire. Also a solar pv lighting system so off the grid means you are not left in the dark…It now has a separate kitchen area to prep and keep all your food, but as your on holiday you can always order a takeaway, Indian, kebab or pizza? The cabin overlooks the Preselli Mountains which over to the West join the sea and the famous Pembrokeshire coast. There’s not only unspoilt countryside or beaches for walking or just enjoying, there’s lots to do including dolphin and seal spotting, horse riding, coasteering, or just mooching around local towns including the historic Cardigan market town and Castle. Preseli sleeps up to four, a fifth can sleep on a camping bed. We have updated our facilities so that our three glamping units have seperate facilities, Preseli has its own electric shower with sink a short walk away, its compost dual chamber toilet is next to the off grid cabin.  The kitchen is only basic you need to bring your own camping equipment camping stove with single burner can be provided.   Please note due to the pandemic we will not be providing bedding, (undersheets are provided).

North Lodge is a traditional campsite with  picturesque views over the Preseli Hills in remote Pembrokeshire.  Long grass and hedges surround  a selection of the grass pitches allowing maximum privacy for guests. The unique off grid cabins and horse lorry all have their own private spaces.  At night, campers can enjoy star gazing around a campfire and, by day, there are many beaches to explore just 10 minutes away.  For walkers there's the Coastal path or inland there are many different woodland, hill and riverside walks.
Nearby attractions
Nearby Cenarth has lovely waterfalls and a good selection of pubs/tearooms although it can get busy, plus the National Coracle Centre (01239 710980). Wales’ biggest and best preserved Neolithic dolmenPentre Ifan is a few minutes’ drive away and above it are the Preseli Hills from where the Bluestones of Stonehenge were quarried.
Food and drink
The best option is The Boncath Inn (01239 841241), less than five-minutes’ drive away, a traditional, friendly pub offering decent pub grub and ales. Just down the coast at Newport is the Cnapan Restaurant (01239 820575), one of the best eateries in Pembrokeshire.
