1 - Derwen Woodland Camping Pitch
Second time as lovely as the first
Great site if you want a peaceful getaway. Everything you need on your own pitch - shower, loo, tap, covered fire and seating area! Easy to borrow a wheelbarrow and stock up on firewood as needed or wash up at the communal sink area. Love this place, this was our second time visiting.

Hideaway Woodland Camping Pitch
We picked this place to try because it looked like a lovely woodland location and sounded great to have your own shower and toilet within a large private pitch - Kitewood didn’t disappoint. The Shrew pitch we stayed on was large but still most of it was nestled into the woodland so it was nicely hidden away. Having our own bench and campfire area with firewood to help yourself was just perfect to sit around early morning and late into the evening. The shower was clean and hot with eco toiletries there and a tap for drinking water too. There is a nice big communal wash up area to use and a bar/games sheltered space down the track from the pitches. The bar wasn’t open because of the time that we went but there’s table tennis and a few buckets & spades, books, games etc to use. We didn’t see another person the whole weekend and it was so peaceful and perfect for what we wanted - the greetings we got were from robins in the morning and a toad at night! However, the owners did get in touch the morning of our arrival just to give directions and offer any help so that was lovely to know they were available if needed. Already wondering when to book again!

Hideaway Woodland Camping Pitch
The campsite was fantastic - we stayed on Alder pitch which treated us to robins joining us for breakfast most morning. Plenty of room for our tent, with loo and shower just for us. The pitch had its own tap and firepit, with a covered picnic area for cooking and generally surviving the Welsh weather. We have 8 year old twins who absolutely loved the independence of being able to explore the site. It was a great combination of being off grid enough to recharge but close enough to Fishguard to keep kids happy. Would thoroughly recommend this magical place. It rained much of the week and we didn't even mind. It's slightly tricky to find so have a look for it on Google Street view, the turn is just opposite the stone cottages. Can't wait till we can go back again!

The site was great we were on toadstool camp loved the shower loo fire pit and shelter with picnic bench it made all the difference, a place to gather and be. On the first day of our holiday our can broke and graham was so helpful charging phones and offering to drive us to get provisions in Fishguard if we needed it. Really recommend.

Hideaway Woodland Camping Pitch
We stayed in Kitewood for a rainy weekend but our all stay was wonderful. It is a beautiful site, conveniently located to the beaches, places of interest, cafes and places to eat. The site is very well organised and there are communal places where you can spend your time if you wanted to. The pitches are very generous and private. Eco Toilets are good and it's great to have a hot shower allocated just to yoir pitch. The site manager is very kind and helpful. We have truly magical weekend and our kids loved there. Highly recommended site!

The Dragon's Lair
Kitewood is a truly remarkable gem of of a place, and the best camping experience we've had in years. OK, we were glamping it out in one of the Dragon tipis (swapping our camping mats for a proper bed has maybe spoiled us forever!), but it was the location, seclusion and attention to detail by Toby and his Dad that made the holiday. Super friendly and accommodating, efficient and yet low-key, and all done with great respect for the woodland environment. The pitches are very well spaced out amongst the trees, generous in size and well-serviced, so there is a great deal of privacy if you want it or the lovely communal cwtch if you fancy some ping pong or a natter. To be fair, the traffic on the nearby A40 distracted us a little on the first night, but after that we became more happily atuned to the nearer bird and animal activity, and to the sound of the breeze in the trees. It's a super location for exploring the Pembrokeshire coast and country, to see (and hear) Atlantic grey seals and the amazing display of coastal wildflowers. We will be going back!

Hideaway Woodland Camping Pitch
Kitewood has been the most amazing camping experience we have had as a family! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and can’t wait to come back again! The forest is stunning! My daughter loves birds and to wake up each morning hearing them all singing together was really cool! She spent lots of time bird watching and loved seeing lots of Robins everywhere. We heard lots of Owls too and went exploring in the forest at dusk one evening hoping to spot one but we weren’t lucky enough this time. Our pitch was brilliant! A truly magical space nestled within the trees. The facilities were faultless!! Finally, a massive thank you to Toby who was onsite throughout our stay. He was so friendly and always found time to stop and chat. He also made some great suggestions on places to visit locally. Thanks Guys Alex and Family

We have recently returned from our first stay at Kitewood and we LOVED the place! Little piece of quite wilderness nestled away amongst the forrest and within driving reach of some fabulous Pembrokeshire spots. We wished we had booked 2 weeks instead of 1. The weather was horrid, but the forest set up seemed to keep us mostly dry and the wind hardly bothered us. The covered fire pit/eating area was great and with free wood it was an added bonus! The pitches are very large, with private eco-loo and hot shower and set away from other pitches, so it feels as though you are in the middle of nowhere :-) Our kids had the time of their lives exploring the forest, forts and everything else the site had to offer. My eldest pretty much just returned to the pitch when it was time to eat or for more s'mores :-) We had a wonderful peaceful stay and have returned to the hustle and bustle of life totally refreshed - We will certainly visit again :-)

Hideaway Woodland Camping Pitch
Another deeply nourishing stay at magical Kitewood. We were determined to return this year and a two week stay did not disappoint - our 8 year old felt right at home the second we were back and we all unwound in Kitewood's wonderfully relaxed environment. Where else would we be able to retreat into our own forest clearing with covered picnic table, fire pit and all the wood we would like to use on hand? Have our own private loo and the opportunity to be in such a natural environment, with all the wonderful wildlife that encourages? How can somewhere be so unspoilt yet still have lovely warm showers and a great wash-up area?! We had a lot of fun trying our hand at cooking over the fire and some terrific days out in the area where there are lovely unspoilt beaches, great coastal walking, sea kayaking, horse riding, Melin Tregwynt woolen mill, Castell Henllys, among other places (and plenty of nice cafes around too!) But it was brilliant to come back to Kitewood in the evening feeling like it was a destination in itself - in fact, a fair few days our first choice was just to stay right there relaxing, pottering, exploring the paths around the forest and open land. Great fun going out on bat walks in late evening - some guided, others on our own. I can't thank David and Sarah enough for their creation and sharing of this wonderful place - the number of people who return here year on year speaks for itself. We are now spoilt and camping anywhere else will never be the same :-)

We are just back from a weeks stay at Kitewood. It was our first time visiting but most definately wont be the last. We booked the Dragon Tipi as a treat. We usually take our own tent away but being 5 1/2 months pregnant, thought the less set up we had the better. It is worth noting we usually camp for 2 weeks, so take all but the kitchen sink with us. I was slightly nervous as the date came closer as to what we were getting into. The thought of arriving at the campsite and having one dirty pan and a couple of plastic plates haunted me. Then we recieved an email asking we only use the shampoo and soaps provided. I will hold my hands up and admit my mind went into over drive! Have we booked into some commune? Will they expect us to eat tofu and sing songs around a fire??? I'm very pleased to say my paranoia was unjust and upon arrival we were greeted by a very friendly David, who showed us to the tipi. We were instantly blown away by the set up of the camp. Every detail had been considered, from having an individual toilet per camp pitch, to the sheltered fire area and the free space between the pitches for the children to run wild. The inside of the tipi was kitted out to allow for a comfortable stay and the kitchen area was immaculate. We didnt want for anything but felt very assured that should we need anything, we could have asked. The showers in the cwtch were very good too, nice and clean, hot water and the toiletries were great. Its safe to say my assumption that all eco friendly toiletries left you smelling of tea bags was wrong. The stuff provided was lovely and I would happily change from what I currently use at home. The whole atmosphere of the campsite was different from what I had expected. We got a very relaxed vibe, David made us feel welcome and was happy to talk about the different aspects of running Kitewood. We were encouraged to explore the area and didnt feel judged for having a wonder around, something which we have experienced in other lived on campsites. Everyone was there to enjoy the peace and quiet and I felt safe letting the children play in the woods and make friends. There were numerous activities throughout the week and we took part in the bat walk. The children loved it. The notice board was updated daily with interesting happenings at kitewood and we were made to feel involved with what was happening around us. Overall, it has to be the best place we have ever stayed. The only downside, for me personally was the getting in and out of the tipi. The door is pretty low and I struggled with being pregnant but that's the only negative I could think of. Everything else was perfect. Completely unforgetable holiday, in a beautiful location. Really educational, really clean, really friendly, really unique. We cant wait to book for next year with our own tent and another addition to the family!

We stayed here for a few days at the end of August. It's the best campsite we have ever been to. Wonderful large and private pitches, own tarp covered area which housed our camp fire and picnic table. With the added bonus of our own compost loo, it was perfect in every way. Totally relaxing and an opportunity to get away from it all. Both David and Sarah were perfect hosts and the children just loved wondering around the woods, playing in the kids only areas and making dens. It's what camping is all about, we can't wait to book again for next year when we hope to stay longer and for a few short breaks too.

We have just returned home from a fantastic week at Kitewood, and it was truly spectacular. I'm not sure whether to start with the fabulous Cwtch, the compost loo (you get your own one for each pitch), or the covered fire area in the woods. We stayed on Toadstool pitch, along a grassy track by the edge of the moor, and true to name, there was a toadstool by the loo! We were able to pitch our tent on the grass leaving ample space for the children to play at a safe distance from the fire. The large tarp provided cover for the inevitable rainy moments (it is Wales after all), with space to store firewood, cook on the fire, have a picnic bench and set up a camp kitchen. We didn't need to use the gas cooker once (it didn't even make it out of the trailer), as all firewood is included in your pitch cost, and a cup of tea from the fire is infinitely more satisfying than the cooker. You may expect the site to be basic, and while it is definitely rustic, it has plentiful hot water, fab washing up facilities, and how many campsites give you your own loo for each pitch! Knowing that the site was car free for the week (you can drive to the pitch for loading/unloading in good weather, and we left the trailer next to the pitch all week as well) meant that allowing the kids to explore to their hearts content was stress free. It's worth mentioning the adders, they are there, but providing your all observant and sensible, then they will move out of the way. The Cwtch has amazing showers, with 2 additional sinks for clothes washing and teeth cleaning, while across the track are 2 washing up sinks, with scrubbing sponges, washing up liquid and even a tea towel for the moment when you've left yours back at the tent. They also do a weekly get together where David provides the charcoal for the fire and you just bring along something to grill. Whether you are looking to escape for a bit, allow the kids more time and space to run wild, or just get in touch with your inner caveman, Kitewood is a wonderful place to spend time.

We've just returned from our first stay at Kitewood and we'll almost certainly be back. Pitches are huge and private, the site great to explore, and David, Sarah and Flynn amazing hosts. Facilities are scrupulously clean, there's tonnes of hot water and because the site is so small, there's never a queue. There's loads to do in the local area, for adults and children alike. An amazing site, my new favourite!
