Looking for somewhere undiscovered? Why not go covert? As the name suggests, this small farm has a suitably hidden setting, ideal for guests looking to unwind in a wildlife haven. Home to a wide variety of birds and wildlife and set beside a Site of Special Scientific Interest, we don’t know how this campsite has managed to stay covert for so long – we’re just glad we discovered the secret.

In a tranquil paddock tucked behind a stud farm in rural Pembrokeshire, it doesn’t take long pitching up here before you start to unwind from everyday life and connect with nature. Swathes of the meadow are left long and unmown, attracting butterflies and fledgling birds, and south-facing views are over reeds and bushy hedgerows. To maintain the peaceful nature of the site, amplified music is not allowed and there’s a ‘quiet time’ after 10pm. Not that there's ever much chance of the place getting noisy; with just 30 camping pitches and a furnished bell tent it never gets too busy.

Facilities-wise, all the basics are covered without too many extra frills. The toilet and shower block has hot running water and washing-up and, as long as they’re in firepits (available for hire), campfires are very much encouraged. Ultimately, though, it’s the space and the natural setting that really make the place stand out. That and it’s proximity to the best of the Pembrokeshire coast – it’s a 10 minute drive to Tenby, 10 to Saundersfoot Bay and a little over 15 to Manorbier.

You needn’t always rush off to the beach though. Cross the B-road by the campsite and follow the county lane to an old 12th-century church and the village of Jeffryston, where there’s a pub and bistro (which doubles as a shop by day) all of about 10 minutes’ walk from your tent. It’s a sleepy spot compared to the excellent eateries in Tenby. Covert, you might say. But hanging out somewhere quiet after a good day at the beach is exactly what this campsite is all about.

This is an amazing little site, so chill, so good for star gazing and wildlife. Sleep better here than at home. Run by lovely people with good standard amenities. Couldn't ask for more.

Third time visiting this campsite, we love it hear. Owners are very welcoming, we came as a party of 11 and three grass electric pitches. Pitches are a fantastic size. Shower facilities are continuously improving this time with a new shower block new from last year. Warm water and clean always. We will of course be back again next year for our fourth visit. Highly recommend for families close to everything you'd want to see in Tenby.

Lovely quiet site, with big pitches and clean toilets but let down by the awful showers. In 9 days I managed 3 intermittently lukewarm showers and they were stone cold the rest of the time. For that price, I expect to be able to have a hot shower in the evening/morning.

Frances, our host, was lovely. The site has a lot of rewilding and makes it more pleasant than it would otherwise have been, The facilities were average: although the toilet block did have shower rooms, they were a bit basic. Location means that there is only one pub that's really in walking distance and even then part of the walk is on dangerous roads. Nearest food shop is several miles away. The extended family next to us (3 pitches) were very noisy and kids were allowed to play around our pitch. We mentioned this to the owner, but not sure what was really said to the family.

Our pitch was so close to other pitches that it wasn't as private as the website led us to believe. It also says that camp fires 'are positively encouraged' but actually we were made to feel it was rather an inconvenience and was asked to put the fire pit we hired on the gravel road used by cars far from our tent, so it didn't mark the grass. Noise was an issue. There was some kind of machinery... We never found out what it was, that had the noise of a lawn mower going all the way through the night, the site is also next to a main road which again has traffic going past all night. The site was very clean and thr facilities were kept in a good clean manner

Spacious camp site and they make an effort to keep campers spaced out. Nice wide and deep pitches. Toilet and shower block clean and ample facilities. Nice little dog walking ( on the lead ) area on site, which is handy for first thing in the morning, with two dogs. Plenty of beaches nearby to let them ( and the kids ) charge around madly.

Really friendly small site off main road but easy to find. Kelvin was particularly helpful with advice & info. Short walk up a quiet lane to local pub (limited food service). Clean, quiet site with adequate basic facilities. There was a mix up with our booking through website but this was easily & satisfactorily resolved by the team.

Lovely site and whilst almost always full never felt crowded. Showers and toilets always clean in fact the owner always seem to be around with the cleaning supplies. Friendly family and whilst I took my own fire pit I like that you can hire them. Good size pitches. My only downside is lack of public transport to have a day without driving & also would help to go to places close by without have to find parking and also no need for a designated driver for a day!!! I know this is not the owners problem but we did have a good chat about it!! Would definitely recommend staying. Stayed for 6 nights end Aug/ Sept

This being our first camping experience it was amazing. The campsite was just perfect. Having two boys that are big into football is really difficult to keep them entertained as they miss kicking a ball but the owners of the site had mowed a little football pitch so my boys were very happy. Renting a fire pit was just great it kepts us nice and cosy when the night air got a little chilly. All the facilities were very clean and well respected by campers. The 10 oclock curfue was just great as im not a night owl so to have peace and quite to get to sleep was lovely. We will definatley stay at this site again and for longer next time as we only stayed for 2 nights but would be more than happy to stay for a week. Definatley recommended.

Facilities are fairly basic but perfectly sufficient. We had hot water for every shower and most of the shower rooms have enough space (which previous reviews suggest isn't the case), the smaller shower rooms aren't really an issue if you have a tent large enough to change in. We were met on arrival and shown available pitches for us to choose from. The firepit rental was a lovely addition (and much needed in the brisk Autumn temps). Quiet time after 10pm was observed by all campers and the owners checked the site after dark. Location is excellent, short drive to some amazing beaches. I would definitely recommend this campsite.

Just had a great week. Really quiet and peaceful ensuring great nights sleep. Three children under 12 loved it and completely safe to roam. Some larger groups of none families popped in seperate field by owner so everyone happy! Great for local attractions and awesome coastline.

An excellent 4days at covert farm. Great family run site, simple but very clean facilities. We had an electric hook up and the pitch was a great size allowing us to have our tent, gazebo and car. Quiet times in evening meant a really chilled trip. Kalvin the site help was really friendly and helpful. We did a fire pit and highly recommend. We would definitely come back!

Brilliant little find! It's a great part of the country and the site is really well run. Super quiet from 10 pm- 8 am, firepits provided, small number of pitches with a lovely open wild meadow space in the middle, small but adequate, clean, non-fancy loo and shower and washing up block. Would happily return.

Cresselly Bell Tent

Had such a lovely few days in a Cresselly bell tent which was warm cosy and dry in spite of some rough weather. Comfy bed and clean facilities in a peaceful setting. Easy drive to Tenby and Saundersfoot and loads to do in the area.

Having being camping for over 30 years this is the first time I am compelled to right a review about a campsite and unfortunately not in a positive manner. The campsite itself is well located to explore the beautiful area and the campsite is clean and basic. However how it is managed and how we were treated by the management was appalling. The first night we were greeted by ' friendly family run team' who reminded us of the rules and that they have already had noisy dogs and music that evening which they weren't happy about. This was at 630 pm. I reminded them that we have no dogs and did not have any music playing so the rules of a 'quiet camp after 10' would be adhered to by us. At around 0955pm we felt a presence donned in high-vis prowling around our tent not dissimilar to a caged polar bear that has been kept in a zoo for too long. This constant monitoring continued throughout the week making our stay extremely unpleasant. There is very little for young children to do and when they did play in the small wooded area they were asked to stop as barbed wire was along the fences. As the site has no livestock I was concerned why they use barb wire in the first instance?? In summary the family run team made our stay feel very unwelcome and we will not be back again.

This is a great little site if you’re looking for somewhere basic and quiet. We had a nice flat grass pitch without power as we use a solar panel and battery set up. The facilities are basic, but were kept spotlessly clean. You’re actively encouraged to recycle your waste which is great, but could do with a bigger bin for bottles as it fills up quickly. The site is perfectly situated for touring around and is great for trips into Tenby and Saundersfoot. We will definitely stay there again.

Arrived and was clearly shown to the camping areas, all nicely segregated with clear markings for all of the pitches. Electric and non electric were quite separate so no confusion there. There is a lovely wild meadow where the grass isn't cut in the middle, not only was there lots of wild flowers it gave a good distance between campers as well so that there was plenty of space and not too close to anyone, so that it was quiet enough. Showers and toilets were basic but cleaned regularly and perfectly functional with a sink area for washing up included. Could have done with a freezer to re-freeze ice-packs but this is a minor gripe. It is10 mins walk up the hill to the nearest pub in Jeffreyston which was only open in the evenings later in the week with good food but no real ale, despite what the sign outside says. The campsite is ideally suited to venture to Pembroke, Tenby, Pendine or Fishguard and there are plenty of castles and beaches in the area to see.

A really lovely campsite. Not too big but with plenty of space between pitches. Jared (the owner’s nephew) gave us a fabulous welcome - he’s a definite star site manager in the making!! The only reason I haven’t given it 5 stars is that the Bell Tent my sister stayed in didn’t have everything the picture on the website and I could barely turn round in the shower I used. However, they were beautifully clean and there are slightly larger showers if you choose wisely! All in all a lovely campsite and I suspect we’ll be back soon.

Really beautiful site, very peaceful. Owners very friendly. Close to main attractions in the area. My only negative point is the showers. Very very clean and good pressure but, unless you can use the shower 'room' with the toilet in the same room, there is no space at all to get changed after a shower. The room is just big enough for the shower cubicle and standing space only. The curtain didn't do much to keep water in so all my stuff got soaked 🤣 would stay again, would just make sure I used the bigger shower room.

Lovely, peaceful, basic, spotlessly clean site which was perfect for our family of 8. Shower and toilet blocks were very clean and showers were powerful, however some cubicles are very compact! The 4 children played and ran through the field between tents and adults felt confident in their safety at all times. A friendly, welcoming pub was in walking distance while Tenby and Saundersfoot are a 5 minute drive away. We hired a fire pit which proved very popular with adults and children in the evenings and genuinely all enjoyed the weekend stay.

It’s nice and quiet campsite, ideal for families. Plenty of space for kids to run around. Toilets/showers were cleaned multiple times a day. Tourist attractions (Tenby, Saundersfoot, Pembroke Castle) are within 15 mins drive. We would definitely recommend it.

Hide away here for as long as you can. Covert Farm Camping is a family-run haven next to a Site of Special Scientific Interest, home to a wide variety of birds and wildlife living among reeds and trees… and it's only 10 minutes' drive from this splendid spot to the spectacular Pembrokeshire coast. The owners have set the site up to be a peaceful getaway for guests who want to unwind in a wildlife haven. The farm is surrounded by fields for leisurely walks away from roads too, and a huge amount of family days out are close by: Saundersfoot and Tenby beaches, Heatherton, Folly Farm and Manor Wildlife Park are all within 15 minutes' drive. Gratified former guests have approved most fervently of this lovely little site, hailing the friendly team, the spotless amenities and the setting among other aspects. Campfires are encouraged too as long as they're in firepits: these are available for hire, along with firelighters, logs and kindling to buy. The toilet and shower block has hot running water and washing-up facilities.

Nearby attractions

Covert Farm has the perfect location for exploring the beauty of wider Pembrokshire, particularly it's southern coast. Saundersfoot, a 10-minute drive away, is one of the most visited holiday spots in Wales, home to an award-winning beach where you can enjoy activities such as canoeing, water skiing and wind surfing. There are two more fabulous beaches (north and south) at Tenby, along with the ruins of Tenby Castle, boat trips to Caldey Island (07980864509) and the Tenby Dinosaur Park (01834845272). If you're here with children, try a visit to Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo, while two other famed Pembrokeshire theme parks are also within 10 minutes: Heatherton World of Activities (01646652000) and Oakwood Theme Park (01834815170).

Food and drink

Just up the lane, a five-to-ten-minute walk from the site, is the Jeffreyston Inn (01646651394), a family-run pub and bistro that also operates as the village shop. The Begelly Arms (01834812601) is a five-minute drive away and there’s also a good Indian, Chinese and traditional fish and chip shop within five minutes’ driving distance. If you're looking for a romantic evening meal out, then the fine dining at the Stables restaurant (01834843318) in Tenby is tough to top, set in an old coaching inn between the medieval town walls and now an up-market, contemporary restaurant. For all your extra bits and pieces the local Co-op is a five-minute drive away.
