Camping and glamping with electric hook-up in a country meadow near the beaches of Cardigan Bay

Don’t forget to pack a torch if you are heading to Wild Meadow Camping. Things can get mighty dark out here in the Ceredigion countryside and campsite owners Andy and Lisa are not about to change that. After all, those star-filled skies are one of the campsite’s best assets. If you prefer well-lit pathways, neatly-mown lawns, WiFi and a place where nature is tamed, head elsewhere. This is Wild Meadow Camping where, as the name suggests, the grass grows long and birds, bees and butterflies are as welcome as campers and glampers.

Having said all that, this place is not about wild camping. There are simple home comforts that raise it far above that. There are flushing toilets and hot-water showers (make sure you bring a few £1 coins — as you will need to pay for those) as well as electric hook up points for each of the site’s 10 camping pitches. Plus, of course, there’s glamping, which comes in the shape of a shepherd’s hut, a fisherman’s cabin and a pair of unfurnished bell tents. But, perhaps, most comforting of all is the presence of welcoming owner-hosts Andy and Lisa who keep the place immaculately clean and are on hand to offer advice.

Since they moved to the area a few years ago they have performed a delicate balance of re-wilding and re-shaping this former grazing land into a campsite with wild appeal. Pitches and cabins are placed around the edge of a three-acre, tree-lined meadow with long swaying grass and wildflowers in the middle. It’s this, and the stream that tinkles past the cabin and hut, that attracts the wildlife. Red kites and buzzards are seen daily, barn owls occasionally swoop by and tawnys are sometimes heard from the surrounding trees. Foxes, badgers and mice are present but, of course, more difficult to spot.

Incredibly, an easier sighting that’s not too far from this neck of the woods are the dolphins of Cardigan Bay. This West Welsh bay has the largest population of dolphins in Europe and daily boat trips from New Quay, eight miles from site, offer pretty-much guaranteed views. New Quay is one of eight beaches within a 15-minute drive from site. It’s these that most people come for. The site is inland and sheltered in quiet countryside but the beaches are not far away and all linked by the Wales Coast Path. If you like to walk, swim and surf, spot wildlife and stars, Wild Meadow Camping is perfectly placed on the wilder side of West Wales.

Rustic Shepherd Hut in rural West Wales
Superb quiet campsite
Just returned from a fabulous week staying at Wild Meadow Camping. Beautiful site with all pitches and glamping huts around the edges of a wild flower meadow. The cleanest showers and toilets we've ever seen at a campsite, painstakingly cleaned by Andy and Lisa every day. Andy gave us a warm welcome and plenty of tips about how to enjoy the locality and beaches. A superb site - quiet and peaceful and we'll definitely be back.

Rustic Log Cabin in rural West Wales
Nice and Chilled
Why go to the hassle of camping when you can have the luxury of a cabin. Had a lovely weekend. Highly recommended. The field will look awesome in a few years when the trees have grown - - It is already beautiful now.

Rustic Log Cabin in rural West Wales
Super comfy, cosy cabin
We had the most wonderful time in the rustic cabin on this marvellous campsite. Everything was so well kept, super clean, with lots of special touches - the site itself, the facilities, the cabin. We were warmly welcomed by Andy, who gave us lots of useful tips about the local area (thanks for the pizza tip, yummy!). We enjoyed the really comfy king size bed, gazing at the wildlife from our windows and staying dry and warm during the rain at night while our son loved the bunk bed. And the induction cooker was a hit - fastest eggs ever made :-) This is a real gem of a site, you feel the care and love that goes into it. It's a brilliant location, only 15min drive from New Quay in such a beautiful part of Wales. Thanks to Andy and Lisa for making our stay so special. We will be back!

Rustic Shepherd Hut in rural West Wales
What a find ....
... which makes me reluctant to share ; ) - We thought it might be a challenge, 2 teenage boys and 2 adults in a shepherds hut - turns out we loved it so much we extended our stay by another 2 days! The hut has all you'll ever need - electricity, running water, fridge freezer, toaster and the evening sun ! The toilet/shower hut was a treat (I have never described a toilet as such). There are 16 pitches so very quiet and spread out - We BBQ'd every night under the stars - A perfect satellite spot to a variety of beaches - Andy was extremely helpful and told us of local beaches and where to find dolphins, seals and waterfalls - we will be going back again - unless is it fully booked because of this review ....damn!

Wild Meadow Camping is a small campsite located down a quiet lane in beautiful west Wales. With the wild meadow at the heart of the site, nature is never far away, with red kites and buzzards spotted daily, and foxes, badgers, owls and swallows being regular visitors too. Our ongoing planting programme ensures that butterflies and bees thrive here, and the small stream running along our border creates a relaxing environment for all. With a network of quiet lanes on our doorstep this is a perfect base for cyclists, and with the coastal path just 15 minutes drive away, along with eight stunning beaches, walkers and beach-goers will love it too.
Nearby attractions

Wild Meadow Camping is four miles (as the crow flies) from Cardigan Bay and there are eight beaches, all within a fifteen minute drive, all linked via the Wales Coast Path, with dolphin, seals and the elusive chough spotted daily in the bay. The seaside village of Llangrannog is five miles from site and New Quay is eight miles from site. Both are pleasant places to visit with shops and eateries. You can hire bodyboards at Llangrannog and go on a dolphin-watching boat trip from New Quay. Tresaith, also eight miles from site, has a lovely golden sand beach and hidden waterfall and a little further long the coast is family-friendly Aberporth, with its large beach, pub and cafes. In the other, direction from site is the harbour town of Aberaeron, ten miles from site, with its quaint painted houses that overlook the harbour.

Food and drink

There are plenty of local pubs and restaurants within a short drive of Wild Meadow Camping, including The Pentre Arms (01239 654345) and The Ship (01239 654510) at Llangrannog, five miles from site, The Ship Inn (01239 811816) at Tresaith, eight miles from site, and (you guessed it) The Ship (01239 810822) at Aberporth, nine miles away.
