Awesome spot for truck camping!
James has an awesome spot for a quick getaway with friends and family. Only an hour from Virginia Beach makes it super convenient. Definitely coming back with my family when it gets warmer out to do some fishing and camping.

The Blackwater Bungalow
We had such a good time at the blackwater bungalow! We saw an otter in the pond and enjoyed seeing the farm animals. We hope to be back in springtime!

The Blackwater Bungalow
This was my second time glamping at the Blackwater Bungalow, and it was wonderful. The hosts are so thoughtful and the land is beautiful. It is great for walking and fishing. We always enjoy their animals and their shop on the grounds where they sell some of their products. Would recommend this lovely stay to anyone!

Loved it. Flushing toilets. Fish in the pond. Plenty of property to explore. Hosts were excellent. They have a little shop that sells just about everything you could need (fishing items, bug spray, etc.)
Beautiful spot. Only negative was that the ground is quite sandy, makes cleanup a little more involved.

#4 Blackwater Ridge
We tent camped with a large group of friends and reserved the whole place. We used campsite 3 as our hub and slept between 3 and 4. It was very private and safe for us to let the kids roam. There was a lot to do between fishing, boating, hiking, and animal siting. The amenities were clean and the owner was responsive. We all had a great time and plan to make it a semiannual tradition.

Really great spots, super private and on a beautiful property. Great little shop too. I got the Zuni Napalm hot sauce, a sweet hat, and some persimmon wine. All great homemade stuff. That sauce is true to it's name! Hosts we're so nice and accommodating for our last minute booking and late night arrival. Would definitely come back!

This was our 3rd time camping at Blackwater Birds and Bees - always a fantastic time! James and his family are great hosts - friendly and responsive. You feel so removed from the chaos of modern life (which is a relief!), yet you can also be at the grocery store in 15 minutes if you forgot something (also a relief!). We camp with lots of kids and there's always plenty of boats for everyone, and the animals are a big hit. We will be back - Blackwater Birds and Bees is becoming the highlight of my kids' whole year!

The Blackwater Bungalow
We had a fantastic stay in the Bungalow! It rained the first night we were there and the we cozy-ed up inside while we listened to the rain hit the metal roof. The kids had a great time in the water (as usual) and we couldn't have been happier with all of the creature comfort items that were made available for our stay. We look forward to our next weekend adventure with you!

Just the best camping experience out there. James and his mom, Phyllis, are amazing hosts on a beautiful piece of property. Our kids run wild all weekend and never ask for screens because they are having so much fun paddling kayaks and canoes, riding their bikes everywhere, and checking on the goats and chickens. What a special place.

We loved this site! Wonderful area to walk and fish. Very pet friendly! The little farm store on site was a life saver! Short walk to the bathroom. Fire wood and firepit on site was awesome. Everything about this site was fantastic! We will 100% be visiting again!!

The Blackwater Bungalow
Great spot!
Staying at the black water bungalow was really great. The cabin is small, but is really all you need to have somewhere to sleep for 3-4 people. The outdoor kitchen has everything you would need for cooking. Utensils, plates, cups, pots & pans, spices, even two different grills. If there happens to be something else you need, the 24hr store on site is stocked with other camping essentials. There is plenty to do on the property. Hiking, kayaking, boating, swimming, fishing ect. There are a handful of other camp sites on the property, but the sites are pretty far away so you still have privacy. You will certainly run into other campers during the day either on the water or on the trails. So if camping in complete solitude is your goal, this may not be the place for you.
We really enjoyed our time here and would highly recommend it!

Loved the whole property/experience
We had such a great time at this camp spot. We loved the clean bathroom, kayaks, little store, walking around looking at the beautiful grounds, stars, etc. We had about 12 kids with us and the whole place is very kid friendly. We appreciated the extra effort James made - delivering firewood and setting up three picnic tables for our group, answering all of our questions and making everyone feel welcome.

James met us when we arrived and made sure we had everything we needed. Left us some wildflowers and a map and said we could call anytime,, very pleasant guy.
We enjoyed the wildlife and the long leaf pines as well as the sweet goats at the farm. The walk to the river was easy enough. It’s a completely different landscape than I have ever seen and it piqued my interest in the history of the Blackwater river and the Great Dismal Swamp,, we took a side trip to check it out and see Lake Drummond. Beautiful but sad too. Very few bald cypress trees remain.
Only downside is the sand burrs that have very sharp little needles. Fortunately I had little scissors and leather gloves to get the out of my dogs paws cause they hurt and aren’t easy to pull off.
It was great to get away from the noise pollution and just chill.
