Great Peaceful campsite!
Great people that run this site. Matt and Ranger were really helpful and answered all our questions and concerns. Enjoyed our stay next to the water. Dog friendly. Will visit again definitely.

Easy to find and lovely
It’s a lovely spot that’s easy to find and offers great spots for hammock camping. The hosts were helpful on HipCamp, and it was a lovely, quiet camping spot — exactly what I needed!

We had two wonderful nights camping on the lovely Blue River. The area is very clean and even the portapotty was not at all bad! We were so lucky to have a beautiful day to sit on the river bank with a beautiful view. It was very quiet with zero road sounds, only birds and coyotes at night. We will be back!

Beautiful but crowded
The campsite itself is still beautiful and well maintained and the upgraded portapots are clutch. This experience was dramatically different from last summer though, and it left me really sad.
First, we had the unfortunate experience of being camped very close to a loud, 4 hour long domestic dispute that raged into the wee hours of the morning. I know that's not Old Mill Canoe co's fault, but it really soured my experience.
I normally prefer isolated sites like this one, but because we were packed in tight next to the drunk yelling, it was robbed of its quiet charm. We drove several hours to be out in nature, and then we were surrounded by people.
We finally worked up the courage to approach them around 2 or 3 AM and after a brief altercation with us, they finally agreed to stop yelling. They started again around 7 or 8 AM as they packed up to leave. After that though, the campsite was less packed and we had a much better time. There was also noticeably less wildlife in the river as well this year, probably due to the increased camping and SCREAMING.
Overall, it felt very different from last summer. I feel conflicted.

in the middle of nowhere and very scary as a solo camper. driving in you pass a TON of confederate/racist flags which is so unnerving. no cell service which also stressed me out. would maybe go back with people but would not recommend if you’re on your own

Great place to camp!
Second time staying here. We were able to get firewood for a good price and have a quiet place to stay. The spots are spaced out further than some other campsites! Will stay again :)

Quiet and Scenic
Angela and Matt’s Campground was great. Right on the blue river, very remote and quiet. Hosts were kind and helpful. We loved doing their canoe trip on one of our days there with our 3 and 6 year old. It was such a special and much needed weekend away in nature. Thank you! We will be back sometime this summer!

Great paddling and stargazing
Great campsite by the river. Very secluded and peaceful - perfect for stargazing. Lots of tree cover too. Matt greeted us quickly with the firewood and was very friendly and laid back. Be sure to either bring a kayak or rent one from the hosts, the Blue River is so much fun to paddle. There are even rapids both up and down stream from the camp site (nothing too challenging if you’ve kayaked before). Less than an hour from Louisville - would return!
