Nearby attractions

Weir Wood Reservoir (1 mile) – the Sussex Border Path runs alongside this 280-acre lake, which fair teems with birdlife. Standen (¼ mile) – a gorgeous Victorian house and showcase for the Arts and Crafts Movement; 01342 323029; NT site.

Food and drink

The Old Mill (Whiting & Hammond), East Grinstead (¼ mile) – the old mill has, sadly, disappeared, but the stream’s still there, as is a working replica of the water wheel; and you can take breakfast here in the summer too; 01342 326341.
