A self-contained cabin on a farm in rural Derbyshire

Enjoy a taste of life on the farm in a sleepy part of rural Derbyshire. This well-equipped and self-contained cabin is situated on Top Farm in the hamlet of Dalbury Lees. The footpaths through the farm, the surrounding villages and their ancient churches all combine to make this place feel like it hasn’t changed for centuries. But step inside your comfy cabin and everything is up to date. It’s a perfect mix if you want to immerse yourself in English countryside from a base with all the comforts of home.

The cabin, a timber-clad add-on to the farm that surrounds a listed 18th-century farmhouse, offers everything you need for a self-catering stay. It challenges the idea of glamping by taking it under a solid roof into a properly indoor space. Here, you have a living room and kitchenette, a separate bedroom and your own bathroom, as well as outside space with views of grazing fields. It’s compact and simply decorated in modern style with everything you need – plus a few welcome extras: HDTV, WiFi and a coffee machine.

But inside is not really what this place is all about. Step outside to wander the farm’s 65 acres, which include a secret thicket of trees and a lovely babbling brook. You’ll hear it from your garden patio, where you’re welcome to have a campfire. Head out a little further, past the neighbouring houses of this rural community and you’ll soon find All Saints Church. It’s one of three small and historic chapels on a circular walking route which those who like a hike will enjoy. For more of that, you’re not too far from the Peak District National Park, perhaps a half-hour drive away.

Get a chance to really experience the english countryside and stay at a working farm on 65 acres. Take a long walk on the property, explore the river and forrest or travel to nearby historical churches. Only 10 min drive from city centre and 25 to the legendary peaks district. This property has it all and is a great jump off point to many other things the UK has to offer.

65 acres of open land, with footpath access to the close by villages. Includes a Brooke that runs along the property and a sacred forest that surrounds the small river. No roads trains or planes come anywhere near this property and you can hear the hooves of cows a mile away. This is a must do camping experience!
Nearby attractions

The cabin at Top Farm is in the hamlet of Dalbury Lees. From here there are footpaths across the countryside including The Three Churches Circular Walk. Information on this and other places of interest can be found in the cabin, put together by host Justin who will show you some of his favourite places on the farm if you ask. Another local walking route is the Derby Nomad Way. There are plenty more outdoor adventures in the Peak District National Park. The southern edge of the park is less than 20 miles from here and Dovedale is a popular and worthy destination for a day out. It’s about the same distance to Alton Towers. Incongruously, the city of Derby with all its attractions is even closer, just seven miles away.

Food and drink

Farm fresh eggs are provided as a welcome gift. For more supplies, everything you need can be found in Derby, just seven miles away. Takeaways from city centre venues are also available for delivery. For a meal out in a traditional Derbyshire inn, try The Cow, less than two miles from site, walkable if you like a hike. Alternatively head a little further to The Bluebell, four miles away, in Kirk Langley.
