Sleeping under canvas at The Holesfoot Hideaway is rather more glamorous than your average camping trip. Not only can you tuck yourself up in a proper bed, but you get a dressing table, a clothes rail and a full length mirror in your super-sized bell tent too. This is glamping in style and comfort so you can feel and look your best during your stay. And thatâs just as well because these glamping tents are often used for guests who are attending weddings in the lovely country house at the heart of the 20-acre Holesfoot Estate. Luckily for us though, when no one is tying the knot, glamping fans like you and I get the chance to stay here too.
The five double-peaked bell tents of The Holesfoot Hideaway are tucked on the edge of a small woodland, with views across a neighbouring field. Unzip the tent doors in the morning and you might have views of grazing sheep and the sound of the dawn chorus as you make yourself a cup of tea. The tents are kitted out with tea and coffee making facilities and thereâs electricity to power the kettle, lights and sockets for charging your phone. But be aware thereâs no cooking kit. These are essentially bedrooms in the wild with everything youâd expect from a hotel â only the bathroom is a minuteâs walk through the trees away instead of en suite. Two showers, two toilets and two washbasins are kept immaculately clean and shared between glamping guests.
If youâre staying here at a time when thereâs not a wedding breakfast to feed you, youâll want to eat out for your dinner so itâs handy that there are options nearby. The closest of which is the community-owned pub, The Butcherâs Arms, at Crosby Ravensworth. There are more options in nearby, riverside Appleby, just five miles away. This the Eden Valley between the high moorlands of the north Pennines and the Lake District. Itâs also the very top of the Yorkshire Dales National Park so thereâs plenty to do and see nearby.
