Garden glamping with an eco-friendly spa and sauna, all a 20-minute drive from Plymouth

The garden at Greenhouse Spa Retreat was planted over 30 years ago and now envelopes an idyllic glampsite purpose-built to leave guests relaxed and well-rested. A fully-equipped cabin for six and pods for two are sheltered among the trees, next to an on-site spa with rejuvenating treatments. Book in a massage or facial, sweat out your stress in the sauna, before retiring to your patio with a view.

Glamping pods, Juniper, Redwood, and Wollemia, are each named after the tree specimen they sit next to, their doors opening out to the garden and its diverse collection of vivid flora – brush through the foxgloves, admire the wisteria, and smell the scented white roses. Hosts Dan and Victoria call it a “Cornish jungle” with good reason. Meanwhile, the Maple cabin looks out onto an open field, a vista you can admire while keeping cosy indoors thanks to the log stove.

The cabin and pods all have their own creature comforts; the cabin has a private bathroom with an elegant slipper bath, kingsize and sofa beds, and a kitchen with all your necessities, while the pods also boast a kingsize bed along with a gas stove for cooking outside, a firepit, and a little indoor dining table for two. The pods' shared washroom boasts a stylish shower and, in-keeping with the eco-friendly theme throughout, rain water is used to flush the toilet.

The spa uses vegan beauty products in its treatments, so whether you’re receiving a head massage or a manicure, you know that the products have been responsibly sourced. You can also book in a private session in the barrel-shaped sauna, or take the site’s membership cards to the nearby China Fleet Country Club where you’ll find a hot tub, swimming pool, fitness suite, and more. For more days out, Greenhouse Spa Retreat borders the scenic Tamar Valley, sprawling Dartmoor National Park is nearby, and the bustling port city of Plymouth is only a 20-minute drive away.

We also hope you catch a glimpse of the animal wildlife that lives alongside us, from hedgehogs to frogs and voles. Your pod has no animal products used inside or out so you can relax in the knowledge that everything onsite from cleaning products to the food you eat and skincare range in the spa is cruelty-free and vegan. Everyone is welcome. We would ask politely that you bring only plant-based foods which you are able to cook outside in the garden on the stove provided. 'Maple' was once two railway wagons, now with a unique conversion using recycled and up-cycled materials, Maple has been transformed into your snug glamping stay. Maple inspires our guests to bring nature into their lives whilst slowing down and being part of the beautiful garden environment. Encapsulating cosy, charming and special moments in the here and now. Inside the log stove keeps you toasty and warm, whilst in the private bathroom the slipper bath brings a touch of elegance and added relaxation during your stay. With a fully equipped kitchen, dining area, SmartTV and Wifi the ambience for cosy film nights and cooking up delicious plant-based delights are endless. Maple has a private bedroom with a king-size bed, warmed by an electric blanket and has a comfortable area for you to store your holiday belongings. You have all you need for a relaxing break away. Very peaceful and comfy stay. We loved plants around, the view of horses, and sustainable ethos of the site. The pod was super cozy and we really appreciated the fairy lights and the kettle! Thanks so much for the amazing stay 😊

Redwood The Relaxing Pod

We loved staying at this location! It was convenient for hiking in Dartmoor but also exploring some of the Cornwall coastline. The pod itself was lovely, and had everything we needed. We booked the sauna which Dan was very helpful with, and enjoyed the cold shower outside. Cheers :)

I loved my stay at Daniel's place in the peaceful pod... The hosts were so accommodating, and the gardens were absolutely beautiful with lush trees and spring flowers to enjoy. The sauna was ready for our arrival and perfect way to wind down and purity the body & mind. The pod was very comfortable & well equipped. And we treated ourselves to lovely massages in the morning. Would highly recommend a stay!

Tucked away just beyond 'The gateway to Cornwall' there are four beautiful places to stay. Juniper, Redwood, Wollemia or Maple are perfect for a peaceful Cornish get away. Take your time to absorb the stunning surroundings of the garden or have an adventure for the day, going deeper into the Cornish countryside exploring what it has to offer. We recommend bringing torches for our garden paths at night time.

Nearby attractions

The China Fleet Country Club is a 10-minute drive away in Saltash, with you able to pick up memberships directly from the Greenhouse Spa Retreat to use its facilities at a low price. Visit its luxurious Aqua Spa where you can enjoy the relaxing spa pool, Roman sauna-esque Laconium, steam rooms, and sauna. Plymouth is a hotbed of things to do; visit its stunning National Marine Aquarium, the largest in the UK and home to over 4,000 animals, many of which you won't get to see elsewhere in the country. Book in a tour at the Plymouth Gin Distillery to discover the rich history of the Black Friar's Distillery, with plentiful tasters and a glamourous bar to relax in at the end.

Food and drink

Foreign Muck – its name a tongue-in-cheek jab at the chef's dad, who would always label food outside his limited palette as such – is a 10-minute drive away, a popular local restaurant with a menu of Mexican and American dishes, along with locally brewed beer. The chimichangas come recommended – delicious deep-fried variants of the restaurant's burritos. There are plenty of great places to eat and drink in Plymouth; The Catch is one of the most popular places around, an artisan Seafood restaurant on the Barbican with a selection of seriously impressive small plates, mains, and platters. Here you can indulge in lobster, tuck into some monkfish, or enquire about the catch of the day. You should also check out the vegan bistro Cosmic Kitchen, serving "good mood food" that's completely plant-based such as their signature cosmic Scotch "egg", homemade moussaka, and sweet treats such as an ice cream sundae and a traditional Cypriot biscuit cake.
