Mill House Breaks offers stays in French roulottes situated in a wildflower meadow in Suffolk. These are shepherd’s huts—but not as you know them. They're incredibly spacious but still well proportioned with plenty of traditional charm. Above all, they're well made. Each is, essentially, a self-contained little holiday home and boasts not only a charming interior but a charming location too. The Mill House meadow sits on the edge of a peaceful village, three miles from the pretty market town of Halesworth and 12 miles from the coast at Southwold.
Arrive here and you are greeted by hosts, Terry and Linda. They’ll show you where to park your car and point you towards Orchid, Oxslip, or Poppy; the three roulottes in Terry and Linda's two-acre meadow. Each cabin is named after a wildflower that you might find in the meadow they overlook. It’s at its best between May and September when it comes alive with butterflies, birds, and bees. But whatever time of year you visit (it’s open April until November) you might spot hares and buzzards and you’ll definitely be admiring the countryside view.
These cosy boltholes for couples offer everything you’d expect from a holiday cottage in open-plan, miniature style. There’s a double bed, a TV, seating with an electric log burner, and a well-equipped kitchenette, as well as an en suite shower and loo. It’s quaint but not rustic in any way. In fact everything is high spec: Farrow & Ball painted timber cladding, double-glazed windows, quality towels and bed linen. Outside, you have a little deck and outdoor seating with access to a communal fire pit and barbecues too. If you don’t fancy cooking, head to Halesworth where there are plenty of options for food. It’s worth a visit anyway. There are lots of places you could say that about round here, many within a half-hour drive: Framlingham Castle, Southwold Beach, and Minsmere RSPB Reserve, to name just a few.
