A riverside meadow with just six pitches for tents and campervans, each with its own toilet, shower and fire pit – and an unlimited supply of logs

Campfire-friendly, grassy, off-grid camping pitches are the daily bread of Hipcamp sites. The back-to-basics approach to camping tends to be the one we’re most at home with as it ensures pleasingly natural surroundings and a limited impact on the environment. But over at Worfe Camping, they’ve managed a neat trick: offering camping that’s simultaneously souped-up and pared back. Each pitch is grassy and off-grid with an oh-so natural feel (that’s the pared-back bit) but comes with a fire pit, a picnic bench, an eco loo, a hot water shower, and an unlimited supply of firewood. That’s Hipcamp for 'souped up'.

These pitches are not just souped-up, though; they’re also well located. Each pitch sits riverside with a view across the water to free-range, rare breed pigs. Worfe Camping, and those snuffling porkers, are part of Valley Farm in the Shropshire countryside. Looking after it all are Anne and Tim. They’ll be the ones to show you in, to answer any questions, and perhaps to sell you a banger for the barbecue. But buy them with a warning: the Valley Farm rare breed pork sausages are so lip-smackingly tasty that once you've tried one, you might not be able to return to the common or supermarket variety.

There are just six pitches sharing a huge seven-acre wildflower meadow here adding to the feeling that you’ve found a special spot. Four are the riverside tent pitches and two are in a slightly loftier position in the field, reserved for the campervans and small motorhomes which are also welcome here. Campers have the run of the place; not only the camping meadow but all around the farm which is home to sheep and chickens, too. The quiet (no amplified music is allowed on-site), the birdsong, the farm animals, and the trickling Worfe River (more of a stream than somewhere you can swim) lend the place a rather relaxing vibe. If it rains, head for the Tack Room, a lovely undercover space where you can make tea, cook undercover, freeze ice packs and play games on the sofa.

There’s a good pub, The Smokey Cow, within daytime walking distance and a surprising amount to do on days out should you want to. There are lots of walking and cycling routes to Shropshire villages and market towns, but the big attraction is World Heritage-listed Ironbridge Gorge. Its many museums, famous bridge, and on-the-water activities are just seven miles from the site. A fair few National Trust properties, the David Austin Rose Garden, the Cosford RAF Museum, and Hoo Zoo are also within a few miles.

We had a wonderful stay at Worfe Camping - the site felt so rural and peaceful, with the sites all very far apart from each other, so it felt very secluded. We also saw so much wildlife, we really enjoyed hearing and seeing the grouse walking around, we also saw beautiful hares when walking to the pub, and of course lots and lots of adorable lambs. We had sausages and eggs from the farm and they are the best sausages I have ever eaten! The unlimited firewood is extremely generous, and even though we had some rain, the ground stayed very firm. The firepit and the awning were great to have when it was soggy, and the toilet and shower were brilliant of course. Tim and Anne were so friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend this campsite to anyone!

A fantastic site
Camping here was such a perfect mix of simple back to basics camping, with lots of added luxuries to make it an easy and relaxing camping experience (own fire pit, rain shelter, picnic table, and toilet and shower!) The owners were so kind and welcoming - they really took time to make sure we were happy and had everything we needed and were so kind to our children - taking them to bottle feed the lambs. We went for a fantastic circular walk from the campsite, stopping for a pub lunch midway at the Smokey cow which had a great playground for the kids. On the rainy day we went to Blist’s hill Victorian village which everyone enjoyed and found one of the best adventure playgrounds ever! It was lovely being by the river but it was too high for paddling so we will bring fishing nets/rods next time we visit!

Great pitches
The pitch on Anne’s land at Worfe Camping was brilliant. There were 6 pitches, all well spaced out with a personal compost loo, shower and washing up station. There were a couple of pubs in easy walking distance that provided tasty food. Both Tim and Anne were extremely friendly and helpful. We hope to visit again.

And breathe...
This was a wonderful place to stay for a few nights. It's peaceful, no traffic noise at all, you just wake to the early morning dawn chorus. The meadow is fab, the pitches are very well spaced out, and it's wonderful having your own loo and shower all to yourself - especially if you have a dog who doesn't like to be left alone while you disappear for showers etc. I went mid-week and had the whole place to myself, it was a wonderful retreat with lovely walks on the doorstep. I bought some of the farm's sausages, lordy, they were good, and Anne and Tim made me feel so welcome, they even offered to take me to a dog-friendly pub one evening, as I travel alone, but I was already hunkering down in the pjs! This really is a little gem of a place if you want to leave all the stresses of real life behind.

We are not regular camper van 'campers' but I would highly recommend Worfe Camping. We arrived after dark and were very pleasantly met by the side hosts who showed us to our pitch and explained about the facilities (private shower, toilets and washing facilities). The campsite was wonderfully quiet and we woke to various animal noises in the morning, sheep birds etc). One piece of advice is that if you are arriving after dark it would be helpful to have clear signage of where the campsite is. Thank you for a wonderful stay on your delightful campsite.

As all the other 5 star reviews say, this really is a wonderful site, run by the super friendly and ever helpful Anne and Tim. What made this campsite stand out for us were: 1~ Anne and Tim: nothing was too much trouble, from giving us a tow up the field when our campervan objected to the slippery grass, letting us bottle feed Dylan the lamb and feed the piglets, and taking the time to chat to us, and tell us about the farm. 2 ~ the spacious area you had to camp in: you didn't feel like you had neighbours at all so weren't disturbed and knew you weren't disturbing anyone else. 3 ~ the free fire-pit and endless supply of wood: other campsites we have stayed on charge you for the fire-pit itself, as well as the wood. 4 ~ the facilities given to each pitch: the compost loo (eco-friendly), the shower, picnic bench and canopy. 5 ~ the feeling of space and being surrounded by nature: we had 2 woodpeckers in the trees next to our pitch and heard owls at night. 6 ~ the sausage and eggs: delicious! In short, this was pretty much perfect camping and we would definitely like to visit again to explore more of the lovely area. Thank you for your hospitality, Anne and Tim ☺️

Panoramic Campervan Pitch
Huge pitches very well laid out with only 6 piches in a huge field. Met by the owner on arrival who escorted us on to the site - very freindly and approacable. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble. If you are looking for somewhere peaceful, private and tranquil with great facilities - you get your own hot shower and loo right on your pitch - this is the place for you. We will definitely be coming here again.

We arrived at Worfe farm and were welcomed by the owners. They were very friendly and helpful. We were shown our pitch and helped with our stuff. The pitches themselves are very private and buckets of space between pitches. There is a composting toilet and a shower for each pitch. The toilet and shower were both very clean and very good. Each pitch came with a fire pit, A picnic table and shelter all brilliant and very useful. If you have ever been camping and felt like you have been crammed in like sardines then please come here it will restore your love of camping. We had 2 nights here and switched off from the world. The kids (2 boys 5, 7) could run around with no worries. In the evening we toasted marshmallows over the fire. To sum up my rambling Worfe Farm is a little slice of nature and calm in a busy world. Thank you.

Just six pitches so lots of room and loved the feeling of not being hemmed in. Anne and Tim were on hand to deal with any issues we had - and dealt with any requests promptly. Loved the tarpaulin cover and fire pit! Great to see animals having the space to roam freely. This is how camping should be!

We really enjoyed our stay in this camp site. Very kind owners, pitches with lots and lots of space around them and lovely to watch the pigs snuffling around in the field across the river. The facilities were great as we got our own toilet, shower and washing up space next to our pitch. The owners have been very thoughtful in the way they have set up the camp site both for the people using it and the wildlife already present. We hope to go back again, but think we'll have to book up more quickly next year!!!

We had a wonderful few days at Worfe Camping. The owners Tim and Anne are welcoming and helpful and have really made this a special place. The site is in such a beautiful spot - a wild grassy meadow, full of flowers, alongside a little river, with only six pitches. Each has its own compost toilet, hot shower and picnic table. We saw lots of stars (and Jupiter and Saturn!), walked to the pub, lit fires and spent a fun day at nearby Ironbridge. We’ll be back!

This place is amazing! We were attracted by the promise of just 6 pitches, the riverside location, our own toilet and shower, and picnic table and awning. Worfe did not disappoint on any of these! We were greeted warmly by Anne, who showed us around (the Tack Room for sausages and a handy freezer and the woodstore - oh yeah, you get your own fire pit too!) whilst we shooed the chickens and turkey out of the way. The pigs snuffled happily in their pen. Then Anne showed us to our ‘panoramic’ pitch, which lived up to the name. The composting toilet was welcome and didn’t whiff at all. The shower was warm and clean. Our neighbours were friendly but far enough away not to be noisy! The kids loved the river and playing frisbee and with their kites on the meadow. We loved it, and stayed an extra night to prove it! Worfe Camping is something special, and we will be back!

Riverside Pitch
Arrived and met by a most joyful host, nothing to much to ask friendly and at ease. Shown to our pitch and have to say, when booking a riverside pitch it is truly a river side pitch. Across the river you can see the pigs in the field and in among the trees. 😊 Setup camp and started the fire, was excellent all the wood you could want and the use of the washing machine drum as the fire pit was a stroke of genius Running water, hot and cold was a great plus, but of a fiddle to get the hot water to stay hot but there was a knack to it and we all managed to have showers in the mornings. Compost toilet, took a little getting used to (not flushing threw us a little at the start ). Would not believe this gem of a campsite is so close to a city - felt like we were in the middle of nowhere. Was a few days really enjoyed by all We will be back ***Sausages and the eggs a real must try 🤤

From the moment we arrived the couple that ran Worfe Camping couldn't have bean any more helpful. It simply has everything even the turkey . You'll know if you go. Its peacefully bliss and a short drive and you can access the County. Its better than a hotel, you have your toilet. Shower and sink. It is well worth a visit you won't be dissatisfied.

I'm not too sure where to start a review about Worfe Camping. In short it was perfect. A perfect venue with perfect hosts. One of the most important things to mention are the owners, Anne and Tim. I can honestly say I have never met such an honest and helpful host couple in any venue I have ever stayed at. They are so warm and welcoming and really didn't seem to have any problems with going above and beyond for my group of friends on a recent stay. From the fantastic welcome on our arrival and giving us a choice of pitch to then having to complete putting the awning up to strimming clear some paths...nothing seemed too much trouble. We met them both a couple of times during our stay and they genuinely seemed happy to come and talk to us. Onto the site itself and despite only having 6 pitches the wild flower field they're located in gives each one more than ample space. The surrounding countryside is stunning and despite not doing so ourselves, there are likely to be some beautiful walks nearby. Each pitch has a wooden 'cabin' with a compost/eco toilet one side and shower cubicle on the other. Everything was immaculately clean. On the outside is a small kitchen area with hot and cold running water (fed by a gas powered boiler that also serves the shower). Also provided is free wood, a floor standing firepit and an awning that can easily cover the wooden picnic table. Whilst not venturing too much onto the farmland itself, we did see a couple of pigs and the chickens and turkeys wandering round to do as they please - with one acting a bit like a 'guard turkey' when we ventured into the tack room one morning where you can use the charging points and free wifi. There's a pub within easy walking distance and I'm sure others can be found for those that like to hike further away on foot. The only downside...having to cut short our visit by a day. Our entire group agreed how we could've just chilled and relaxed in the atmosphere Anne and Tim have provided.

Just back from 10 days in the heart of Shropshire at this fab campsite. Let me tell you about our first evening. After a very long drive, we were met by Anne and Tim, probably the friendliest, most welcoming campsite owners I have met in 2 decades of camping. We tromped over the meadow to our pitch, comfortably distanced from the other pitches - space to breathe. We had a composting loo, sink and hot, proper hot shower to ourselves. A picnic table under our own tarp with a real campfire. As the menfolk put up the tent, I cooked a dozen, Worfe Farm sausages on the campfire, as the beans heated. Tent up, we scoffed the lot, probably the best sausages I have ever had. A slight bit of guilt as the pigs snuffled past in the field over the stream. Distant sheep mehed. A real campfire is brilliant. The chickens at the farm are daft. There's loads to do in the area. Romans, Victorians, otters and boat trips. Eating out was great. But ... What made the campsite a cut above - was Anne and Tim. I almost don't want to tell you - I want to be able to have a booking next year!!!
