Love horses? Look no further than Nelson Park Riding Centre for your next glamping getaway. This laid-back retreat features cosy pods and even a converted horsebox, all overlooking the cross-country course and paddocks of the riding centre. It's one of the largest stables in Kent and, on the eastern thumb of land that sticks out into the sea near Margate, it has coast in almost every direction – you're within 15 minutes of Margate, Broadstairs, Ramsgate, Sandwich, and Birchington-on-Sea.

The accommodation here is simple, clean, and cosy. The Fox Pod and Pony Pod are equipped with the essentials – a fridge, kettle, running water, a heater for chillier evenings, and electricity to charge your phones – with the former providing a double bed for couples and the latter two single beds. A separate block containing showers and loos is just a short walk away. Alternatively, converted horse trailer provides a fitting place to sleep for three guests, with a wood-clad exterior and similar essential items and furnishings.

Book a riding lesson while you’re here at a discounted price, or simply admire the horses enjoying the 15-acre cross-country course. The centre’s family-oriented, so kids will be in their element, and there’s even a play area to keep them occupied. When the day’s excitement is over, throw some logs on the firepit and watch the stars.

Our fabulous foxpod is clean, tidy has the basic facilities you need for your stay, a fridge, kettle running water and heater for those colder nights, the toilets and showers are a short walk away, you have the option to enjoy a riding lesson here at the centre, just a few minutes drive are the sandy beaches of thanet and dreamland

The Pony Pod is our two single bed version of the Fox Pod, it comes with fridge, heater, kettle and complimentary coffee and tea's, located next to the FoxPod the views change each and every time you look out your door. Located in one of our paddocks you overlook our cross country course and depending on the time and day you will see some of our large horses or a group of ponies all playing and relaxing.

Here's your chance to stay in a specially converted horse trailer, built originally we believe in America (circa 1970) it will now live its days as a lovely glamping unit with all the mod cons and comfort you need for your stay. A comfortable double bed and single mattress, bed linen and sleeping bag makes this the ideal space for 2 adults and a child to live, the "Trailer Escapes" unit comes with full mains power, USB chargers, Microwave and Fridge and for those colder nights a lovely wood effect heater are ready for you. The Fox Pod @ Nelson Park

We had a great time. Graham was a super host. The Fox Pod was amazing and spectacular views from it. Prime area for Margate which is what we needed. Staff were super and even had a go at horse riding which again was amazing. Already looking to book for next year.

Glamping with Horses in a fox pod

The Fox Pod @ Nelson Park

Graham was super welcoming, he's staff were very friendly and helpful too. They have a lot off land with lovely neighbours Horses!! As they have a Horse training facilities. The fox pod we stayed it's very cosy and lovely, very quite place with a lovely bonfire place!!

Thanet's largest riding centre, with over 40 horses and ponies, large indoor arena and 2 outdoor arena's you will be staying in one of our paddocks that overlooks our cross coutnry course and paddock, every view is different as its home to some of our ponies and horses, clean toilets and showers are very close by. Our Pods are also available to book via their own website www.coastalglampingthanet.co.uk

Food and drink

Nelson Park Riding Centre has its own cafe. Alternatively, Merlin Cafe is a 20-minute walk away, located in Ramsgate's Spitfire and Hurricane Memorial Building. For a popular local pub, the Canterbury Bell is a 10-minute drive away, whose owners proudly boast that it's "smarter than a pub and friendlier than a restaurant". Come here for a laid-back atmosphere, delicious modernised pub grub, and an outdoor play area for the kids. Belle Vue Tavern is a 15-minute drive away, its terrace nicknamed "the Balcony of Kent" thanks to the spectacular sea views it provides—arrive in time to watch the amazing sunsets here. This pub boasts regular live music and hearty food.

Nearby attractions

Botany Bay is well-known for its superb views and clean water, and can be reached in a 20-minute drive. With a backdrop of chalky cliffs and rock pools to explore at low tide, there are two beaches here – the main southern beach, and the naturist beach that is secluded on the edge of the flat dunes. Alternatively, you can visit Broadstairs' Viking Bay, its main horseshoe-shaped sandy beach favoured by Charles Dickens. Its surf school is open from April to October, and there's plenty for the kids to do thanks to the tidal pool and children's rides located on the beach. Ramsgate can be reached in around 15 minutes and has the distinction of boasting the only Royal Harbour in mainland Britain. Take a trip down the Ramsgate tunnels – the largest UK network of wartime tunnels – or simply enjoy the views from the town's marina.
