Bell tent camping on the Hampshire-Dorset border – with breakfast provided and goats in the garden
If you’re looking for somewhere to stay near Bournemouth and the New Forest, how about a nice B&B? No, we’re not sending you indoors to a chintzy guesthouse and, yes, we are still in the business of promoting camping, glamping and the great outdoors. We’re talking about Omaha Meadows, which provides a type of B&B we can get on board with; bell-tent-and-breakfast. It’s a neat idea from a neat little site on the border of Hampshire and Dorset.
Each morning at Omaha Meadows, you wake up and unzip your tent to find a cool box that’s been replenished with the breakfast of your choice; cereal and croissants or bacon and eggs ready to cook at your camp cook station. There are just two bell tents here, sharing a riverside paddock with a pair of goats over one fence and a handful of motorhomes over the other. You share sparkling clean facilities with the latter but shhh – don’t tell the van-fans that the grass is greener on your side of the fence where the river is closer and the tents more tucked away.
Alan and Jane, who own both sides of the campsite, have made their bell tents cosy and the camping easy with all they’ve included. Inside there are beds, bedding and blankets. Outside the cook stations are little lean-tos with kitchen cupboard kit, a camping stove and space to wash up. There’s outdoor furniture with a canopy cover and log seating around fire pits, which are available to hire if you want.
There are pubs, takeaways and restaurants just ten minutes’ walk away in Verwood but the real delight is even closer. The entrance to Moor Valley Country Park. This 1,000-acre natural playground is well-known in the area but little known outside it. Just five minutes’ walk from the campsite gate, there are walking routes, cycle trails, adventure play parks, Go Ape, segways and lakes for fishing. There’s enough to keep you busy all day, perhaps even all week, but you might want to leave time for this region’s big hitters too. It’s a short drive of ten miles to the New Forest National Park and just 15 miles to the beach at Bournemouth.

We have just returned from a May half term break with our 2 children (10 and 13). We stayed for 4 nights in the River Tent and it was incredible! The tent is huge, so spacious, and Alan and Jane have thought of absolutely everything from the twinkling fairy lights, the basket of blankets, the cute jars of condiments, tea/coffee/hot chocolate etc. to the outdoor kitchen with every utensil you could need, and the large BBQ, rattan furniture, picnic table and firepit! We enjoyed every second and wish we could have stayed longer. The location is excellent, with the Moors Valley Country Park right on the doorstep, several great pubs (we recommend the Three Legged Cross), nearby beaches and for the adventurous you can't get better than the Go Ape Treetop Challenge, and the Inflatable Obstacle Course at the New Forest Water Park! Thank you so, so much, we all can't wait to return.

Spent the Bank Holiday weekend here. Quiet and private glamping area next to the river and the playful goats. Lovely location to stay at for visiting moors Valley and Poulton park (peppa pig world). The kitchen area was great as it had everything you need to make breakfast and the firepit made our young childrens 1st glamping experience a memory that they'll never forget. Toilets and showers were spotless. The food we had at the Monmouth Ash pub was amazing. Thank you Jane and Alan. We're already looking at when we can come back.

My partner and I stayed in one of the glamping bell tents for the weekend. We were unlucky with the weather so it was a bit cold and rainy, however, under the covers it was warm. The fire pit was also a great addition and we sat and ate meals around it. The kitchen area had everything you could need, and the breakfast provided was excellent. One of the highlights of the stay was the very friendly goats, Rocky and Rolo! The location is great and we explored both the New Forest and the Jurassic Coast. The owners also gave us great local recommendations for food and drink, such as the monmouth ash pub. We had a great stay overall and recommend it highly.
From the host
We have two wonderful bell tents on quiet private land next to a river and our two friendly Billy goats, Rocky and Rolo, are in the next field. We are on the border of Hampshire and Dorset on the outskirts of Verwood near Wimborne. The site is just a few steps away from Moors Valley Country Park. The park offers walks, runs, cycle routes, dog walks, fishing, 18-hole pay-and-play golf, skate park, model train rides, play parks, segway hire and Go Ape! Adventure trails.
We are so close, you can walk or cycle, so no need to pay for car parking.
The entrance to the Moors Valley Country Park (01425 470721) is five minutes’ walk from Omaha Meadows Campsite. There, you can explore on one of the walking trails, hire bikes and segways, visit the Go Ape! treetop adventure playground, go fishing or play golf. If that’s not enough to keep you occupied, the New Forest, Dorset Heavy Horse Centre (01202 824040) and Adventure Wonderland theme park (01202 483444) are all within 10 miles of the campsite. The coast around Bournemouth and Sandbanks Beach is about 15 miles away.
Food and drink
Bell tent campers get a breakfast pack per day of their stay, with bacon, eggs, sausages, beans and tomato or cereal, milk, fruit and a croissant, as well as tea, coffee, hot chocolate, sugar and milk. There are two pubs less than a mile from site; The Monmouth Ash (01202 822227) and The Swans (01202 825777). A little further but also recommended is The Three Legged Cross (01202 826052). A range of takeaways are within easy reach in Verwood, as is the nearest supermarket.
