Like to holiday with your kids but need some ‘me’ time, too? Then step this way. At this tipi-tastic haven you can let the kids run wild in the woods every morning while you wake up in a leisurely fashion over a freshly poured, frothy cappuccino in the café. Then, when you’re ready, slowly wander back to your camp and dig out a good book. You could be on your own for a while... The best thing about yurt camping is you don’t have to fiddle about with tents. And the best thing about Yurtcamp is that you don’t need to plan many days out. Within this 40-acre fern paradise are two assault courses with tyre swings, nets, and rope bridges, plus various winding trails to follow and a partly covered playroom with giant-sized games. Yurtcamp sits on the edge of Dartmoor, the largest expanse of moorland in the south of England, and consequently a Site of Special Scientific Interest. Motorway traffic hums in the background depending on where you are (you can’t hear it in the woods), but fades into the significance of a buzzing bee once you get used to it. Nine yurts are dotted in a circle in The Village, an area that can be block booked by groups (Totnes, Torquay, and Exeter are short taxi rides away for a big night out). You do have to bring your own bedding, but there are trolleys in the car park that make this less of a chore. Each yurt contains up to four beds, a cooker, table, cool box and chairs. The café sells breakfasts (the vegetarian option is popular after a few BBQs), West Country cider, and local beers in the early evening.
