When it comes to planning a camping getaway, there's many things we look for in a cool campsite. Peace and quiet is usually up there; a warm and friendly welcome always helps; and a traditional country pub onsite serving tasty food and decent real ales – bingo!
Nestled on the Somerset and Devon border, within easy access of Exmoor and the North Devon coast, the campsite formally known as Yeo Valley Holiday Park, sits within the grounds of one of the region's best boozers. The campsite itself has a mixture of grass and hard standing pitches for tents, caravans and motorhomes, clean facilities and rope swings and a play area to keep the kids entertained.
Helmed by nice-as-they come new landlady Tania, a welcome awaits as warm as the open fireplace within its thick stone walls. With new ownership comes a refrshingly refined menu of locally-sourced pub grub favourites with a twist. Besides a hearty Devonshire fried breakfast campers can enjoy an evening meal of confit pork be;l and sage mash, washed down with a good selection of beers and decent wine. Most weekends, the pub plays host to live bands to keep you entertained well into the evening.
The site is perfectly placed for exploring nearby Exmoor National Park, whether on foot, by bike, or on horseback. In fact, if you do arrive by horse the Blackcock has some stables to house your trusty steed. The sandy beaches of North Devon are in easy reach and there are plenty of pretty towns and villages to visit along the way... if, or course, you make it beyond the bar of your new favourite pub.
