For most of the year there is little to see at Fairlinch. For 11 months the place operates as a traditional Devonshire farm and it is only from the last weekend in July to the first weekend of September that its metal gates are opened to campers, unveiling a small and simple slice of camping paradise to the general public.

Firstly, the Fairlinch field is fantastically spacious. Due to its impressive size, the meadow never feels overloaded and there is always plenty of space for ball games and family fun. Flat as a pancake pitches are found at the ascending campsite’s base, or, if you don’t mind sleeping on a wee slope, there’s the reward of breathtaking coastal views from the summit.

The surrounding landscape can’t fail to inspire, with the glorious and iconic Saunton Sands beach located just minutes away. Not content with being drop-dead gorgeous, Saunton is also renowned for hosting some of Britain’s finest surf conditions – when the Atlantic swell’s good it produces row after row of slow rollers, proving irresistible for boarders.

Behind the beach, meanwhile, lies vast Braunton Burrows, England’s largest psammosere (that’s er... a sand dune system to you and me). Boasting an extraordinarily diverse plant community (with over 400 recorded species), its ecological importance has been recognised by UNESCO, ranking the site alongside Mount Vesuvius and the Danube Delta for international significance. Plus, credentials aside, it’s a pretty great place for grown-ups and nippers alike to run wild and explore.

Fairlinch Camping is located on the west side of of Braunton village, nestled into the beautiful countryside overlooking the unique biosphere reserve of Braunton Burrows.Fairlinch Campsite has stunning views of the Taw Torridge Estuary, with only being 2 miles from the popular Croyde Bay you can usually catch a glimpse of the misty sea haze over the dunes. This campsite is an ideal base from which to explore the North Devon coast and not forgetting Exmoor. Braunton itself offers a range of shops for stocking up with provisions, more surf shops than you can shake a wetsuit at and plenty of restaurants, cafes and outs - all within safe ambling distance back to the site. This is a large spacious camping site allowing you with the choice on where to pitch your Tent/Caravan/Motorhome. Onsite - Ablution block with toilet facilities - Mains drinking water - Wash-up sinks - Free Hot showers -  Recycling disposal point Near the campsite they have golfing, fishing, riding and watersports facilities with excellent surfing at Saunton Sands!

I was greatly impressed by this wonderful camping field which stretches high up to give the most stunning views. The facilities were lovely and clean and great hot water for the showers and the washing up area. I walked down to Saunton Sands then round back to Braunton and to the campsite! Great adventure. Richard was very friendly and came around in the day. I will definitely be back as great location

Really hard to find. No information on the app and the coordinates take you to some random house. Luckily he was used to getting these odd requests and pointed us in the right direction..

Huge fields, loads of room to yourselves nobody need be in whisperering distance. Great views, no fuss simple camping. Toilets, showers, washing up sinks, bins.

This is a lovely campsite, basic, spacious, hot showers are bangin and Richard is friendly and accommodating. Will recommend to friends and come back soon!

Great spot with loads of flat ground to pitch up! Easy to get to Croyde and Braunton which both have loads of pub and food options. The showers and sinks are in great condition. Pretty clean too. If you want to have a fire, you need to bring your own firepit as they don't rent/sell at the campsite. You're allowed to have a fire , no problems, as long as you're safe Anyway. Had a great time and the staff are very friendly so definitely use this place as your Camping location!

Great little site. Basic but everything you really needed. Showers were good and much better than some we've experienced in the past. Toilets were clean and were not a trial at all. We met Richard and he was so friendly and welcoming. Nice quiet site within reach of some lovely beaches and a stones throw from Braunton were you could get what you need. Really enjoyed our stay and had a lovely experience. Being able to have a camp fire made the camping experience perfect. Would definately stay again. Thanks Richard and the crew!

Back to basics at its best

Brilliant, back to basics, grass pitch with everything you need for a proper camping stay. Loved that you could pick your own spot and weren’t hemmed in. Showers were powerful and hot, toilets clean and the site was blissfully quiet. Loved being able to have a fire in the evening too. We’ll be back.

We had a really lovely camping trip. We are a family with a 5 and 2 year old and we wanted somewhere with space for them to run around without bothering other campers. This was perfect as there is so much space for each group. You can pitch up where you like over two fields. The facilities were basic, but the showers were hot and there was never a queue for them. Braunton is a lovely town with practical shops, good food choices and nice browsing shops too. Fab beaches in either direction and really close to the campsite. The farmer came round to check in with us and he seemed really nice and super helpful. Would definitely go back!

Great campsite. Plenty of space and not that full so we were able to find our own area to camp in. Great location for the beach too and a great sunset view over the sea.

Great relaxed site. Farmer was lovely, helpful & polite. Pitch up wherever you like in two very big fields. Didn’t feel overcrowded at all. 6 very good hot showers. We never queued. Good clean toilets. Great for dogs. Perfect for a 2min drive to Saunton beach. We will definitely be back.

The atmosphere here is very relaxed and easy going. Hot showers, toilets and sinks to do washing up and there are a few water taps dotted along the hedge of the first field. Lots of space and no set pitch means there’s plenty of space for your pitch. Owner is always about and is very friendly and happy to chat and offer advice about the area too which was brilliant. The field is on a hillside. It isn’t too steep but a block or two to level off tables would be handy and a windbreak is also useful if it is windy. Plenty of space to have fire pits and bbqs to keep warm in the evenings and it was certainly quiet later on which was ideal for the kids. Bring stuff for them to do in the campsite or stay at the beach which is a nice 2 mile walk/cycle if you want to avoid parking costs. Great views of the area including the local sand dunes and across the estuary.

Just got home from a chilled out week of camping. Fairlinch is a No Worries Campsite with plenty of room to have your own private area with no overcrowding. Shower and Toilet Blocks, firewood for the chilled out evenings and most importantly a freezer to keep your ice blocks cold for the beers! Not far from the amazing sandy beach and town centre. Would definitely recommend, No Worries!

The campsite is two large fields behind the football club. There is a large flat area with plenty of space for tents to spread out and there is a good choice of locations to pitch. There are no set pitches. The showers have plenty of hot water, but there aren’t many so you’d need to queue at peak times. The campsite had a friendly relaxed festival vibe but was very quiet overnight and first thing in the morning so good for families. It was perfect for a beach weekend away.

Braunton itself offers a range of shops for stocking up with provisions, more surf shops than you can shake a wetsuit at! And plenty of restaurants, cafes and outs – all within safe ambling distance back to the site.
Nearby attractions
Learn to surf like a local and book a lesson with Surfing South West (01271 890400), or take advantage of the stunning heritage coastline path with a walk to Baggy Point. Horse riding on Croyde Beach is a must-do experience, whether a leisurely beach trot or epic country trek, exploring the area on horseback is a great way to soak up the atmosphere. The family-run, pretention-free Roylands Riding Holidays (01271 890898) is based in central Croyde and welcome experienced riders and first-timers all year round. Discover the area on 2 wheels by hopping on the Tarka Trail and exploring the beautiful coast and countryside. Bikes can be hired from Otter Cycle Hire (01271 813339) in Braunton. Treat yourself to a new surfboard or wet-suit at any of the surf shops in town. Croyde Beach also hosts the annual Oceanfest (01271 817000) a beach, sports and music festival in June. To see how it all began, visit the Museum of British Surfing (01271 815155) in Braunton. Here you’ll find a detailed history of the long board in our native waters, including sketches of Hawaiian surfers by Captain Cook’s crew, airbrushed surf art on early boards and photos of the locals riding the waves on wooden planks in the 1920s. You may also be surprised to learn that Devon’s most famous daughter, none other than Agatha Christie, was an early surf pioneer who mastered the art of stand-up surfing in Waikiki.
Food and drink
There’s no dining options onsite, however Braunton town centre is only a 10 minute walk away and offers many pubs and restaurants including: Squires (01271 815533) an award winning chippy that brings folk from miles around, both for its tasty takeaways and sit-down restaurant. Surf dudes (and dudettes) should make a beeline for the White Lion (01271 813085) and try its rib-sticking burgers; or, if you want to venture further afield for a party vibe, try The Thatch in Croyde (01271 890349.) Visitors shouldn’t leave Devon without scoffing a cream tea at Centery Farm (01271 879603), or head to The Blue Groove (01271 890111) which combines laid-back beach-bum vibe with trippy artwork and an internationally eclectic menu that including: Thai curries, Mexican pancakes and Japanese noodles. In the village of Georgeham, just inland, try the food and real ales at The Rock (01271 890322), where they serve a great Sunday lunch in a light, bright conservatory.
