A warm welcome awaits at one of Cornwall's best-located campsites
In astronomy, the circumstellar habitable zone is the name given to the universal region where conditions are perfect for supporting life. Not too hot, nor too cold, you might know this foundation of astrophysics more commonly as the 'Goldilocks zone'. Here at Hipcamp, we employ similarly empirical methodology when searching for that perfectly-placed campsite. And nestled in the heart of western Cornwall, we've found just such a spot... and nary a family of bears in sight! Five minutes inland from the coast, Treglisson announces itself with a swinging green sign beckoning you down a quiet country lane. And the site which reveals itself is, as promised, not too big; not too small; but just right. The spacious main camping field comprises 26 grass pitches (all with electric hook-ups), with half a dozen hardstandings for campervans and motorhomes. As it lies a little inland, you are sheltered from the coastal gales, but still just an achievable walking distance to the nearest beach. Though it sits on a slight slope, pitching is no great hardship. What's more, conscientious owner Keri Smith is sure to give ample berth between neighbouring pitches. In the school summer holidays when the crowds descend upon Cornwall, Keri also opens a smaller, off-grid field that can accommodate an extra eight pitches. Situated on the site of a former farm orchard, Treglisson is a verdant, herbaceous hideaway embraced by trees and hedgegrows that are a magnet for an array of avian tenants. Keep your eyes peeled and your ears open for buzzards, sparrowhawks, woodpeckers and, as dusk descends, tawny owls and bats spooking the rabbits and frequent visiting foxes. While it might not be the campsite of choice for teens, Treglisson is refreshingly uncommercial which means a convivial, communal vibe reigns. Amusement-wise, highlights include an outside play area with sandpit, plus a small covered second play area should the Cornish skies uncharacteristically darken with rain clouds. Keri is on hand to help with anything in an attentive-but-not overbearing way. And, unlike a few campsite owners that spring to mind, he isn't totalitarian about rules... just keep the noise to a minimum after 11pm, out of courtesy to your canvas compadres. He's also a mine of local knowledge, so whatever leaflets and maps you don't find in the small info-shed, just ask Keri for his pick of local places to go. Hayle is just 20 minutes' walk downhill (30 minutes back uphill) via the main B road into town. England's sunshine highway, the A30, is also easily picked up from Treglisson and will take you all the way to Land's End and Cornwall's innumerable lovely locales. While modest in scale, Treglisson has nailed that happy medium between space and seclusion for camping couples, and a buzzing kid-friendly centre where the littl'uns can make friends in the play areas. It's a testament to the design and all-round good vibes at Treglisson that guests return year after year. Like we said – just right.

Grass pitch (Electric hook up)
Nice small campsite. Only issue was the noise level from one party on last night. It went on until 1am and we had asked them to lower their noise. Tried to contact owners at midnight but to no avail.

Grass pitch (Electric hook up)
Lovely quiet camping in the separate field. Stuart so helpful giving us a lift into Hayle to pick up the bus to St Ives and a jump start to our van when we had a flat battery. Highly recommend.

We were going to camp at Treglisson camp site but the weather turned bad for the week, fortunately the owner had a room become free in the guest house, so we said yes, we were met by the owner and shown to our room which was very clean and tidy. We were given fresh milk every day and tea coffee and hot chocolate topped up. Breakfast every morning was so good we only needed a evening meal. We will most definitely be going back to camp because the hospitality was so good. Thank you.

Grass pitch (Electric hook up)
We were given a warm welcome by Keri and shown to our pitch which was very close to the shower block so the wife was happy as it was only a short sprint to the Loos in the middle of the night!!!. I hadn't realised the site was dog friendly and there were a lot of dogs, but I have to say the owners kept them all well under control and this did not prove to be a problem at all. The site is nicely located in the centre of Cornwall and all the places we wanted to visit were only a short drive away. The shop stocks a few essentials and has a great coffee machine for a morning kick start, the owners very kindly let us rotate our freezer blocks thru their ice cream freezer in the shop and this proved invaluable as we only camp with a single coolbox. So in summary a fab little site with everything you would need and a great location.

A warm welcome awaits at one of Cornwall's best-located campsites. Treglisson is ideally placed for exploring the north and south coasts of Cornwall, for visiting St Ives, Penzance and St Michael’s Mount. The area abounds with charming fishing villages, gardens, market towns, craft centres, galleries, country inns, historic tin mines and breathtaking coastal walks. The surfing beaches of Gwithian and Godrevy are a five minute drive away. There is a short golf course and driving range within walking distance and the RSPB reserve at Hayle Estuary is close by. We have high quality facilities including a fully tiled shower and toilet block, undercover dishwashing area, a small launderette, licensed shop which also sells coffee, croissants/pain au chocolate and a freezer for your use. There is a central play park and a covered play area where families can relax and enjoy themselves.
