Bell tents and pitches close to Bodmin Moor and the Camel Trail

Between Bodmin Moor and the north coast of Cornwall, Camp de Lank is ideally situated if you want to explore both – especially if you want to do it by bike. This small and simple site is the closest campsite to the eastern end of the Camel Trail, a mostly traffic-free route that links Bodmin Moor and coastal Padstow. It takes cyclists on a flat route through gorgeous Cornish countryside and if you stay at Camp de Lank, it’s that gorgeous countryside in which you’ll be pitching your tent.

The site has lovely views, simple facilities and is both dog and campfire friendly. Plus it’s not only the Camel Trail that’s within easy reach of here. Port Isaac is less than 10 miles away with Polzeath, Boscastle and Tintagel not much further. Even the Eden Project is only half an hour’s drive from site. This is an enviable location in North Cornwall and if you don’t fancy pitching a tent, there’s an option here for you too. The site has a handful of furnished bell tents to hire. Like the tent pitches these are off grid but they’re well set up with battery-powered lighting, a made-up double bed plus optional singles as well as cooking kit. Outside you have a fire pit and a sheltered camp kitchen. And everyone on site has access to battery-pack charging and ice-pack freezing to make life off grid a little easier. The well-tended modern facilities help with that too. Toilets, showers and the washing up area are rather nice for a campsite as simple as this.

If you’ve come with your own tent, you’ll find pitches in the five-acre field are spacious with open views of the surrounding countryside. You can walk from site out into it: north a couple of miles to The Old Inn and the edge of Bodmin Moor or south to the Camel Trail and the banks of the river it follows. A bike gets you further, a car means you can visit all of North Cornwall – nowhere in it seems too far from here.

Great camping at a great price!
This location was not only beautiful but well maintained. They offered many helpful facilities such as logs, charging packs and ice packs. The bathroom facilities were clean and well presented. We loved the fact the recycling bins were sorted so well. We have no complaints!

From the host
This small site has both, glamping and standard pitches with sweeping views over the local countryside, making Camp De Lank a spectacular place to be at sunrise and sunset. Camp De Lank is all about the simple pleasures of outdoor life: stargazing, barbecuing and reconnecting with nature. With the added comforts of modern and well-maintained toilets, a lovely washing up room, immaculate showers that have plenty of hot water and great pressure, ice pack freezing, battery pack charging service, free fire pits available to borrow, logs for sale and most importantly hand-made Cornish cocktails from Sauce. that can be delivered straight to your tent! Camp De Lank is a perfect place for family and friends to reconnect, unwind and explore some of Cornwall’s most celebrated spots. Only two miles from the edge of Bodmin Moor and half a mile from the start of the popular Camel Trail bike route where you'll find a small café - perfect for a spot of breakfast or afternoon cream tea. The Camel Trail passes by Camel Valley Vineyard (did someone say wine flight), Bodmin Steam Train railway, Wadebridge and finishes in Padstow. If you prefer to hop in the car then Polzeath (13.1mi), Boscastle (12.2mi), Tintagel (11.9mi), Port Isaac (10mi), The Eden Project (18.1mi) and Adrenalin Quarry (22.1mi) are all close by.
Nearby attractions

Camp de Lank is in the village of St Breward, just two miles from the edge of Bodmin Moor and half a mile from Wenfordbridge and the start of the Camel Trail. It’s a great place for walking and cycling with the Camel Trail itself a particularly good place for cycling. It’s largely traffic-free and flat so suitable for family cyclists too. There’s bike hire available from Snail’s Pace at Wenfordbridge. You can use it to cycle to Wadebridge (nine miles) or all the way to Padstow (12 miles) on the coast. By road, Padstow is a little further. The closest places to hit the beach are dog-friendly Polzeath (13 miles) or Port Isaac (10 miles), the little fishing village where the TV series Doc Martin was filmed. Tintagel Castle is 12 miles away and The Eden Project is 17 miles from site.

Food and drink

The Snail’s Pace Cafe at the start of the Camel Trail (less than a mile away) is the closest place for a bite to eat and does good breakfasts, perfect for filling up before a cycle ride. For a pub lunch or dinner, the characterful Old Inn (which is dog friendly), is in the village of St Breward just over a mile away. It’s not a lot further to St Tudy Inn with its menu of seasonal local produce or The Blisland Inn which offers real ales and hearty portions of pub grub. For food to cook back on site, Blisland is also the place to head for. Its community shop is the closest shop to site. For more than what’s on offer there St Kew’s Farm Shop is six miles away on the A39. It has a good selection of food (and other local artisan goods) and there’s a cafe too.
