A dog-friendly campsite on a farm in Cornwall where every pitch offers a sea view

Camping on the Lizard Peninsula in Cornwall doesn’t get much better than a stay at the small, relaxed, dog-friendly site at Gwavas Jersey Farm. Christened 'Cadgwith Camping' for its position on the cliffs above the Cornish harbour village of the same name, this is a simple site which offers sea views from every pitch with campfires allowed. There are beaches and coves within easy reach and there’s glorious coastal walking on the South West Coast Path, just a five-minute stroll away.

The majority of the pitches here are reserved for tent campers, who are welcome to park up next to their tent. But there are six spots that specifically cater for campervans and motorhomes too. In short, all are welcome here, including your dogs. And it’s a particularly nice place for animal lovers as the campsite is part of a working farm. As the name suggests, you can expect to see Jersey cows in the fields around you. You may even get the chance to sample the deliciously creamy raw milk they produce too.

The campsite fits well into the rural surroundings and there’s little to distract you from the views of green fields in one direction and turquoise seas in the other as facilities are fairly back to basics: just a couple of compost loos and a couple of hot-water showers. And how could we forget Birdies? This seasonal vintage catering van serves food at breakfast and dinner times on site during peak season – handy if you don’t fancy cooking on the campfire. Alternatively you could take the 10-minute stroll down to the Cadgwith Cove Inn for fish and chips. It’s particularly atmospheric on a Friday when the sound of sea shanties rings out from the patio – book your table and your pitch well in advance.

Sea views, cows and amazing hosts
My girlfriend and I had a wonderful 8 night stay at Cadgwith Camping, and we were sad to leave! There are fantastic sea views east, so the sunrise is brilliant if you are willing to get up early enough. The toilets are compostable loos but are monitored regularly and kept very clean. The showers are hot and also kept very clean. The hosts, Will and Cathy, made us feel incredibly welcome, and they are amazingly attentive and helpful. They go above and beyond to help their campers and make sure everyone has the best stay possible. 100% recommend, we will be back.

Highly highly recommended!!!!
Highly highly recommend Cadgwith Camping, we've camped for years at various sites, and it is one of our absolute favourites. This was our 2nd year back. We love this place. At the heart are the lovely owners who truly cannot do enough for you. We still don't understand how they keep the compostable toilets so pleasant and clean. Gas powered showers were reliably hot, as was the washing up station water. Lovely little food van with very reasonable prices. Stunning sea views. We did the coastal path walk, accessible from a path that runs down the side of the site , down to Cadgwith cove and also the other way past various stunning coves on to lizard point. We truly love this place and are looking forward to next year already.

Great site to explore the Lizard!
Kathy was a really friendly and helpful host, guiding us to a sheltered spot so we didn't get blown away in the night! Our kids absolutely adored the cows who were so friendly and calm when being bombarded with fuss. The food and drink from Birdie's (the caravan on site) was lovely, proper warming home cooked food. Toilets and showers were clean and functional, which is all you can really ask for. All in all, a really chilled and friendly site. Having the SW coast path on your door step was also really convenient.

Such a great spot. We had a gorgeous view overlooking the ocean, but honestly everyone there had an ocean view. The facilities provided were always clean and there were really lovely hot showers. The owners were so helpful, happy to give any recommendations and even let us charge our phones in their home. We woke up to calves wandering outside our tent and the camp ground is right on the cliff walk so couldn’t be happier!

We are a family farm and campsite, perched high on the cliffs above the sleepy fishing village of Cadgwith. The views are spectacular and every pitch overlooks the sea. We have hot showers, composting toilets and a catering van on site. Kynance Cove, Kennack sands and Lizard village are all a short distance away. We have a seasonal catering van that runs through the summer holidays.
Nearby attractions

Gwavas Jersey Farm is perched on cliffs above the harbour village of Cadgwith on the Lizard Peninsula. You can walk from site on to the South West Coast Path in five minutes and (if you don’t mind the ups and downs) to the harbour and cove in just ten minutes. Lizard Point, the most southerly point in Britain, is about three miles away and takes around an hour to walk to. There are plenty of coves and sandy beaches to choose from within a short drive too including Kennack Sands, Kynance Cove and Poldhu all within six miles of the campsite.

Food and drink

Cadgwith Camping is set within a field at Gwavas Jersey Farm. Home-cooked food is served from a vintage caravan, Birdies, on site at breakfast and dinner times every day except Wednesdays, when there’s a fish BBQ down on the beach. The Cadgwith Cove Inn is the village pub and the site of regular sea shanty singing sessions (on Fridays). The Witch Ball, mainland Britain’s most southerly pub, is another recommended spot for a drink or meal out and is a drive of around three miles from site – a shorter distance if you choose to walk there on local footpaths.
