Glamping with a mini outdoor spa on the edge of Stowe Park in Buckinghamshire

The hot tub. The sauna. They might be the first things that tempt you to stay at Buzzard Holt. But don’t miss the other advantages of this small, dog-friendly glamping site. It’s within walking distance of a pub, merely a mile from the National Trust’s Stowe Gardens, and not much further from the market town of Buckingham. It’s also within easy reach of Bletchley Park, Silverstone race track, and the scenic Ouse Valley Way. So, if you were thinking of booking a single night you might wish to reconsider. Everyone wants to stay longer. And in addition to the handy location, this small glamping site offers a choice of accommodation; all set up for an easy stay.

There’s a modern cabin, a yurt and a shepherd’s hut. The hut is the cutest, sleeping two. It’s a basic set up—essentially a timber-clad bedroom on wheels—but the bed is made for you, towels are provided, there’s electricity, and there's a toasty log burner too. Outside, you have seating, a barbecue, and a fire pit. It’s a short walk to a toilet and shower that’s shared with yurt glampers. They have much of the same (made-up beds, towels and a log burner) but with lots more space and Mongolian style. The yurt sleeps up to four. Meanwhile, the cabin is altogether different. It sleeps two and offers more contemporary comfort, with an en-suite bathroom and a bit of kitchen kit. It’s even got a TV.

All of the accommodation is loosely clustered around the hot tub and sauna, so no one has to tip toe far. And the whole place is surrounded by 11 acres of meadow, orchards, woods, and streams that you’re welcome to explore. It's all expertly managed by hosts, James and Rebecca, like to cover all bases. Got a dog? There’s a secure field for runarounds. Too lazy to make breakfast? You can pre-order one to be delivered to your door. Need a map of Stowe Park? They can lend you one. Leave the glampsite, take a left, and it's just 400 meters to a park entrance.

Buzzard's Cabin
Lovely stay
Really enjoyed my stay. Hot tub & sauna were a great bonus to help relax of an evening. Two other stay options quite near to the buzzard pavillion but were quiet so didn't bother us. Slight issue with the shower curtain as it didnt help keep the water contained in shower area so the bathroom floor was very wet after & had to put down towels to soak the water up. Overall had a really nice stay, lots of nice walks to be had.

Nearby attractions

Buzzard Holt Hosting in in the village of Chackmore less than a mile from Stowe House and Gardens. The Georgian house is in private ownership, home to Stowe School, and only occasionally open to the public but the Capability-Brown landscaped gardens and wider parkland are owned by the National Trust. It’s a great place for a walk or a picnic. The Ouse Valley Way passes through the grounds and offers further options for walks in the area too. The historic market town of Buckingham is less than two miles from the campsite. Buckingham Old Gaol is a great place to start a visit to the town as it is both a museum and a tourist information centre. Silverstone is about five miles from the site and Bletchley Park, the historic house that became the centre for codebreaking in the Second World War, is 13 miles away.

Food and drink

Hosts, James and Rebecca, run a small farm shop on site, where you can pick up a few basics and there’s also the option to book in a breakfast to be delivered to your accommodation or even a picnic lunch. For a meal out, the closest option is The Queen’s Head pub, just down the road, in Chackmore. Also nearby is the tea room within Stowe Gardens if you’re heading that way. For anything else, there’s plenty to choose from in Buckingham (two miles) where there are independent shops and eateries and a choice of supermarkets too.
